  1. Hmm, had a similar issue but not on the hub. Put a deposit down on a car recently, when I called later in the week to confirm I had secured finance I was told "It's sold already, the driver collects on the weekend" Needless to say I wasn't impressed and had to go there and stand over them to make sure my money was paid back into my account. Can understand the op's frustration!
  2. The R2400 bling ones from CWC ..... they'll make you **** gold ingots. Literally and proverbially
  3. Longest period at a standstill fullstop, including training rides!
  4. Intern and his wife in the mixed teams, notice how he maintains his composure. Thereby avoiding the smoothness of a back hand from the missus. He has on occasion been heard saying "Just not the teeth skat"
  5. Some of the best water points I ever experienced were at the Marquard Challenge "The Freestate is Not flat" In the middle of nowhere these okes managed to set up with like two caravans, a kraal of bakkies and a full on braai as well as three or four tubs filled with and water containing bottled water, coldrinks, Energade, beer etc .... If you asked nicely you could get a coffee or whisky, or a "moer koffie"
  6. Used to go there on a regular basis a few years ago, that tapered down not because of security concerns but just because I started riding other areas more often. Started riding there again recently, can honestly say I haven't felt at threat at all and have noticed a marked increase in security efforts. Sad to have lost the one trails the heads through the small tunnel under the highway, but NF have done this with our safety at heart. Just obey the warnings and no bike areas, everything should be hunky dory. Was there about 2 weekends ago in the afternoon evening. No issues.
  7. Each to their own
  8. Have to agree, a very stupid comment to make. Wether it does occur or not. By the same token I feel I do have to disagree with Simon's statement on CT being as dangerous. A read through the ISS audit on crime trends is an eye opener, with approx 80% of crime occurring across 3 major metropolitan areas. Guess where the majority of that 80% is concentrated. Still none of the above is a comfort to anyone who has gone through the trauma of crime and the NF guys put in an enormous effort for a largely thankless task. The incidents of people abusing the staff are just not on and are damn disgusting.
  9. By the hammer of thor!
  10. - - - - You shutup!!! shutup shutup shutup!!!

  12. I can never really enjoy Steers ..... Not since noshing down on one of the burgers at Pipeline Beach in Amanzimtoti!!! Fortunately theres Grazers in Douglasdale Centre, behind the Pick 'n Pay, opposite KFC .... their signature burgers are to die for, more so when washed down with a Frankie's Creme Soda
  13. Gaan *** man ..... Thats a camera flash, doesn't quite work for trail riding though
  14. Just bought the MJ-816 from Easy Bike, totalled around R1000 rondt....... Am absolutely stoked with it, at that price it is unbeatable!
  15. Have you tried ballooning down?
  16. They really are a passionate bunch there! With the launch of the new(ish) trails this weekend I think these guys have set the wheels in motion for the area to reclaim it's status as an MTB mecca! A relatively small turn out, but great fun was had by all! Shop itself looks great, sitting at Woodsman I started thinking it had that whole Colarado feel to it that we used to see in the old US mags. Like Bike. Some old faces around too, like Brett and 'Doc' Oertel.
  17. Never said that did I, obviously it's not like a motorbike helmet. Which is also no guarantee. You made the remark about the bus, which is what I responded to. As I said, I have no problem with someone choosing to not wear a helmet. What I have an issue with are some of the failed arguments/reasoning behind it. Like referring to extreme sports. As one of mates says "I don't like it, it's uncomfortable and annoying. I know the risk it is kinda irresponsible but if I come pipe, it's on my head" Which I can dig, the oke mans up and is straight up about it, doesn't make any theoretical debates for it. Although that pun at the end painful in itself... urgh
  18. I think you'll find that most MTB trails stipulate that helmets are to be worn and are not optional.
  19. Yes, a cycle messenger in New York got run over by a bus, and survived extensive head injuries because of his helmet. One of our pro ladies survived going under a trucks wheels during a training ride, she survived because of her helmet. I was hit by 4x4 at pace many years ago, the only reason I am sitting here is thanks to my helmet doing it's job. A helmets job is to absorb impact, which can and does make that bit of difference to your melon being squashed.
  20. It's like a safety belt on a car it might not make a difference, but when it does it's the difference between life or death. A helmet is the same, often it might not protect you but equally it could save you. The head is the most susceptible body part to severe trauma! Talking from first hand experience. The argument about extreme athletes not using protective head gear is a load of crap, I've worked at events with or alongside some of the world's top extreme athletes. The majority of them wear protective head gear. Climbers Freeriders FMX BMX Skateboarding Skydiving Adventurers
  21. Besides the fact that wearing a helmet is apparently law. Consider others around you, using Groenkloof and NF as an example, they are very specific about the helmet rule. Ignoring this puts land access at risk, because those land owners do not want to have those kinds of problems. Wether one agrees or not. Theres plenty data and studies on the reasoning about wearing a helmet, the most blindingly obvious one being that you only have to knock your head once. By all means, don't wear a helmet, everything is about choice, but don't try to argue the logic of not wearing a lid. Just man up and acknowledge the risk factor. Far as iPods and heavy traffic goes, we could apply that same argument to driving and car radios then avoid it altogether.
  22. I eat cows, and they're vegetarians. So by default ........
  23. Is it not possible there was road closure?
  24. That a Silver Jeep with a permanently attached Thule rack? As for the bike, noice ride... kinda wheels that could make a wolverine purr!
