  1. Good show by all the guys involved and nice shots by Tyson. Iwan, you were pretty spot on actually. For the most part though I reckon people be supportive.
  2. Actually James Reid raced a few World Cups and UCI events internationally. Going to the Olympics is determined by the nation's UCI ranking with top nations qualifying for 3, 2 or 1 spots. With our ranking South Africa qualified to send 2 (possibly 3 originally, but thanks to Rourke) men to Olympics but fell just outside of the ranking to qualify sending any women. From there, SASCOC and CSA set the criteria to select riders for Olympics. That's a topic in itself.
  3. Define reasonable? 3 nights in a five star game lodge, price that at any other time, outside of an event that includes all the extras like food, riding on otherwise none riding areas with big five and then some. Think you'd struggle to find anything near that cost wise. Was fortunate enough to do this event a while back when MTN was the sponsor, and honestly they go out of their way on this. The numbers are purposely kept low because it's easier and safer to manage, this is after all a conservation area and wildlife reserve. It's also a much better vibe with less people and far more relaxed.
  4. Generally yes, but not the politicians obviously. The Shova Kalula project has been around for a good few years, with involvement from both Qhubeka and BEN to map out the processes of handovers which includes tools and maintenance, although I'm not sure how the partnerships have expanded over time. That aside I've no doubt that politicians across the board try and leverage the political canvassing potential. However there are incredibly committed people working in the background with these projects without a focus on any of the politics involved, even though they have to deal with the bureaucracy of the politicians and public alike.
  5. As they say, they've been appointed to asses and appoint a trail management plan. Long due and no doubt an unenviable task, knowing Kath and Matt though I think they'll do a good job.
  6. All you have there is a resemblance, that's it. Looking at and comparing stock images is in no way a real world comparison. A degree here and there on geometry makes a significant difference to a feel of a bike, as well as materials and build.
  7. Thoughts from elsewhere, "The E-Bike thing, absolutely has a place in the world. Great for low impact commuting and an important tool in changing heavily industrialised transport planning. They also create accesibility to the bicycle in a number of ways for those with mobility issues, whether it's through illness or physical challenges. It allows them to discover the joy of cycling. (Edit) E-bikes also have incredible potential as a tool in law/conservation management, EMS and event production. But as far as a recreational tool for 'able' bodied riders who are otherwise healthy and mobile. No. It's counter intuitive and (arguably) too big an enviromental impact, from manufacturing to use. On some level it feeds into a superficial culture which defeats the entire object of the simple pleasure of pedaling a bicycle. My personal objective(ish) opinion, ultimately though it's down to the individuals choice, not mine. I know, opinions are like assholes, we all have them."
  8. It's a no. Enduro event DQ'd a rider for using an e-bike on practice runs.
  9. Great tech and whatnot, the potential trickle down is fantastic for those with mobility challenges or commuting. For recreation though, it's very much contrary to the low impact use and carbon footprint idea of using a bicycle. Feeds into a very superficial culture ... Manufacturers need to really consider their motives with this kind of thing. https://www.instagram.com/p/BGEv5ICohuh/
  10. Yes but no announcement has been made yet by CSA, other than track, marathon, xco and BMX. Road, DHI and Rio yet to be announced. As far as uncertainty goes on selection, well we've seen how that's worked for XCM and XCO Worlds. Very likely no SA representation at Marathon Worlds unfortunately, as Robyn's prognosis from her crash at Monster isn't good. Long period of recovery due Not great news...a minor setback...Diagnosis = AC Joint separation & proximal humeral fracture #slings'nthings pic.twitter.com/xyxwc2aw7k
  11. I see the UK, Spain, Hungry, Russia, Holland, Czech Republic, Austria etc ... missing out on riders at the Olympics.
  12. Not official no, CSA have not released their announcement as yet, they're due to do so within the next week or so. Imho opinion it's pretty unfair and disingenuous to the athletes concerned to make an unsubstantiated announcement like that outside of any official announcement from the actual people concerned. Wether it turns out to be true or not.
  13. Apparently they've reformulated it slightly. Found it works well, be sure to shake the bottle well though.
  14. Or you're not using a big enough hammer ....
  15. We're not robots, human nature? How long is a piece of string.
  16. Balls ... Men (mostly) thinking with their balls and fowling it up.
  17. The authorities (SAIDS/CSA) didn't do any favours either by cocking a few things up and muddying the waters completely. Then to follow up with this Zuma'esque gem "Cycling South Africa will not comment on this case further" Boom, there you go.
  18. That list doesn't seem to have any of the codes updated since 2012 sadly. Would imagine it's a mammoth task admin wise, hopefully they intended to update that database. It's a great resource with a good knowledge base and goes a long way into providing transparency, IF kept up to date. Another really good resource is the app for checking medicine against the WADA list, that as far as I know is up to date.
  19. That's fine, disagree but provide a mature reply and reasoning rather than a patently stupid remark about my character. Just because we don't see eye to eye does not mean I or others don't care. If nothing else your comment validated the point in my post.
  20. Setup a fund to assist SAIDS and maybe volunteer. Two of the biggest issues facing SAIDS.
  21. What about convicted fraudsters from the corporate sector? Or manslaughter from drunk driving, sexual assault, habitual recreational drug abuse etc? Do one must do them all. If I ride an event or race, I'm doing it because of what they provide for the riders and community in the area and for myself of course. Nothing else, I will not allow some other asshole's actions to deprive me of my experience. Good to pressure events on taking a stance, another thing altogether to roundly start slamming them as 'dirty events' because of how we personally feel.
