  1. Exactly 2 weeks today on LCHF and feeling good so far. I've upped my salt intake and I'm feeling my energy returning slowly. Each day gets a bit easier. The best part is the improvement in my skin. It's amazing how in just 2 weeks, my skin has cleared up and feels more supple.... and dare I say it, the 'fine lines' around my eyes even seem to have softened a bit (maybe that's just my hopeful imagination) Now to see how I feel on the bike tomorrow. Last week I had to abandon my ride at 20kms because I was just completely drained of energy.
  2. Thanks for all the advice so far. I'm now on day 12 of strict low carb. I'm still feeling tired, but not dizzy and 'wooly' in my head anymore. My mood has stabilized dramatically and I no longer suffer with hypoglycemia. Best of all my hives have completely disappeared. I'm down 2.3kgs, but there is no change in my measurements. So there you have it, overall improved feeling of well being. So when do I start losing fat already?!!!!
  3. Day 6, still feeling tired and from time to time I feel dizzy. I'm hanging in there in the hope that things will get better. I was chuffed that the prof responded to one of my tweets, I just really hope it doesn't last for 6 weeks and is closer to 2! Tim Noakes @ProfTimNoakes @Mtb_Nancy More patience required. Initial adaptation takes 2-6 weeks. Your symptoms likely due to removal of addictive sugar/wheat 03:20 PM - 07 Oct 13 so to all you experienced LCHFérs, how long did your "adaptation" take? and when do I start getting thin?
  4. Nope, Red Scott
  5. Yeah, I know that now.... I was a first time seller
  6. Just shows how ignorant I am. I recently sold a road bike to someone who had just registered on the hub in order to respond to my ad. Being the trusting soul that I am I gave her my contact details and physical address. Fortunately she arrived, did a bank transfer (same banks so the money went in immediately) and left without incident. I'll re-think things in the future.
  7. What a sad state of affairs. OP, I'm sorry about your traumatic experience. Am I the only one that is wondering exactly how this took place? Working on the assumption that the guy was operating alone, how did he get away? i.e. how do you put a bike on a bike rack whilst holding a gun in one hand? or did he ride away on the bike with said gun still in hand? Unless he had an accomplice that did all the work while he held the gun...
  8. Also, I just thought I'd share that for the last few months I've had a very bad case of urticaria on my face and neck. I've been on numerous courses of cortisone. It clears up with the cortisone and then promptly reappears when I go off the medication. Today is day 5 of LCHF and my hives are fading, actually almost completely gone!
  9. I'm weening myself Today I had 1/2 a spoon of xylitol instead of 1 spoon. Hopefully by next week I can go without. I also only drink 1-2 coffees a day. Pardon my ignorance, but I've never heard of bulletproof coffee
  10. Thanks for the advice. I have a lot to learn because I haven't done the research properly, I'm sort of 'winging' it I'll try upping the fat and salt for a bit, but I also have a constant thirst, despite drinking loads of water. I'm thinking the increased salt might make me more thirsty than I've become? ps Is a bit of xylitol in my coffee ok? (1tsp) I love my coffee, but can't get used to it being unsweetened.
  11. Inspired by a Tim Noakes interview and my frustration with trying to lose excess fat and constant yo-yo dieting, I've decided to give LCHF a bash; with some trepidation due to years of 'healthy diet' indoctrination Anyway, I went cold turkey on Carbs and sugar. I'm only on day 4 but not quite as enthusiastic as some of you here because I'm just 'foggy' and tired. I hope this feeling goes away. Also, I haven't read all 110 pages of this thread, but I am getting bored with eating the same meals over and over... so hopefully I can find some inspiration and variety here oh, only down 1kg.. I'm putting that down to water loss
  12. When I go running at dawn or dusk, I wear my safety jacket from work. It's not intended for running purposes, but motorists can see me from a mile away. I don't really care what I look like as long as I look alive by the time I get home to my family
  13. Why not self adhesive rim tape/strips?
  14. Look, I wasn't going to point out ALL of your MTB blunders at once. You DO want a partner for B&B after all
  15. Nice work Topfuel, I'm really surprised that nobody has flamed you for the Q20 in one of the pics.... just saying
  16. Yep, and he hasn't even posted the ones where he's completely airborne.. be afraid, be very afraid He's a long way off from when he discovered that he could unlock his shock
  17. Joe is aware of his TB partner's reasons for being unable to accompany him on this one. I agree with the second part of your statement indigo, he's just being modest
  18. I'm quite sure your PM inbox is going to be flooded now.... who can resist a man wearing Sealskinz?
  19. DR, it was good to see you again! Thanks for accompanying my partner to Komdomo. Yeah, the wheels came off for me at Bergplaas. I believed I could get through this on experience, but apparently training is required too. I don't regret giving it a bash but do regret letting my partner down, especially since he prepared so much for it and was very strong going into the event. But, I'll be back next year to make my 2nd attempt at #4.... just a little delay in the 5 year trophy process
  20. Coffee in Graaf Reinet, better than a day in the office despite what lies ahead
  21. 3 hours a week? seriously?
  22. That's a relief, thanks Jax. I got a bit grumpy with my partner there waiting for him to put on dry socks. This year he may get grumpy with me there for not training enough
  23. The biggest watercrossing last year happened after Bergplaas. It was the one just off the tar road when we left Komdomo
  24. Yep, muscle memory and a bit of determination. After a certain distance, it's all in the head anyway
  25. With years of experience like you have, you don't need to train. Just get on your bike and pedal, when you reach J-Bay stop, simple really.
