  1. Sounds like Belgian "Sour Grapes" to me, in both Paris Roubaix and Tour of Flanders poor old "Tomka" Boonen just couldn't keep up so Cancelarra must be cheating!!.HammerHed2010-06-01 08:00:53
  2. I use a Polar Power meter and a Cycleops Fluid2 trainer and I get amazing results. I do have to have a varied interval session otherwise it gets very boring but with the power meter that keeps you on your toes, as you cannot slack off. The Fluid 2 is amazing it has an exponential power curve much better than the magneto trainers, more life like effect of riding a bike the harder you pedal the harder the resistance much more so than the magneto based ones.
  3. The ruins on top of the Koppie near Gerhardsville but to the south. South of the M26 road from Sandton to I think it is Erasmus? There is a Cheese Shop about 1km to the east, where the single track comes onto that main road. The GPS coordinates are as follows: S25.83548 E28.06367 these coordinates are not for the koppie but down the slope on the north side. I know of 2 sets of bike jackings in this area on top of the koppie at the ruin in the last 2 months more than 8 bikes taken in these 2 incidents alone. HammerHed2010-05-18 11:33:40
  4. Sure any bike shop should have one, they usually come withthe cap and bolt as well. How much? well depends on how High end you want to go, but I don't think they are expensive.
  5. Yup, size sure matters. It is better to have a frame that is slightly smaller than you should use than slightly bigger, you can always add stem length and saddle height but it is difficult to remove stem and saddle height. The geometry of the frame just works better for you if the size is right.
  6. I "Shifted" to twist for SaniC will never go back to trigger again. It is just much more intuitive than triggers. You can also shift up and down through lots of gears in one move. No you don't shift up or down on bumps or anything like that, only a third of the grip actually twists.
  7. How long do the batteries last in that? Would be an awful pain to have to constantly change the cable ties to change the batteries. Fine if youre a Pro with a mechanic and and a cable tie budget.
  8. Don't think so, Sram is 1:1 shifting ratio. Shimano is not.
  9. On a cllub ride this morning we came across 3 MTBers who had just been bike-jacked at gunpoint by 2 men who started walking really quickly to catch up to them. They told them to lie down n the long grass for 20 minutes and went off with the 3 bikes cell phones etc. This was at the ruins on top of the Koppie near Gerardsville but to the south. South of the M26 road from Sandton to I think it is Erasmus? There is a Cheese Shop about 1km to the east, where the single track comes onto that main road. The GPS coordinates are as follows: S25.83548 E28.06367 these coordinates are not for the koppie but down the slope on the north side where we came across them walking back to the main road. We helped out by letting them use our phones to arrange someone to collect them. Thankfully no-one was hurt and the guys were insured. We had like 5 flats on our ride which set us back by about 45 minutes if we had not flatted this could have been our group that was Jacked. Anyway this is a heads up for the Gerardsville Ruins koppie as a Bike-Jacking hot spot.
  10. CycleLab were also ripping the ring out of the parts available at Sani2C, my Sani2C partner at the end of day 2 was quoted R600.00 for a pair of XTR disc brake pads. I just called CycleLab and their local price is R230.00 per set. WTF!! Milk everyone when they have no other choice or alternative, this goes completely against the spirit of the Sani2C event.

  12. I think Shimano does one, the Dura Ace Shifters have two little bumps on the hoods that can accommodate a switch for the Shimano computer. Googling it should find something.
  13. Won't catch me offroading in Moz, landmines everywhere. They are not even sure where all the landmines are in Moz. Saw them de-mining right next to the main road to the north just north of Xai-Xai in 2000, I mean right up to the tarmac was a de-markated de-mining area.
  14. That was my initial thought, but you should be able to ride with the lockout on on bumpy roads. No?
  15. Seems like a design flaw.
  16. Ouch, was it still under warranty? Who are the distributors?
  17. I did the 100k Crater Cruise and at the start noticed I only had 3cm of travel on my fork I thought it had locked out, not having a lock out lever I started and when I hit the dirt road stopped to see if I could unlock it, no go. I continued and it immediately started bottoming out on the corrugated road, so rather disturbed I continued and at the 50k water point managed to borrow a pump to check air levels. I pumped it to spec top and bottom (had not lost any air pressure) and then it went rock hard, no give, and no matter what I did could not move it. So carried on riding and 500m later heard a loud pop, didn't see anything so continued and at the next water table noticed I had lost all the oil as the top right seal had popped out. Now the shock started to collapse and the bike geometry changed as the ride height in front was down by 50mm. Hell on my hands as they took a huge pounding, managed to finish. That was the end of my Crater Cruise weekend I was going to do the 56k the next day. Anyone know what went wrong with this fork, it is barely 1 year old? Can I safely repair it? Any comments? 18. Got to agree the Blockhouse was well organised.
  19. Sure, but that will take money to keep these 2 parties interested and the database current.
  20. I agree with you, but this will require a database of results so one can be seeded, I don't see that happening. The roadie super seeding thing hardly works but somehow the road races manage to be seeded quite well.
  21. One of the things they said to me was that "We are a volunteer group of individuals that make up the SA-MTB and Provincial MTB Committees so sometimes our time and resources are rather stretched!" Any volunteers who want to make a difference I am sure would be appreciated! My feeling is that they really want to help but might lack the resources to implement things. So I guess we must be patient.
