  1. Thanks for the stats - clearly the WC & us Gauteng guys need to make more effort in securing their bikes at home - I have 8 bikes in my garage each with their own stand, un-insured ! Maybe i should rig a steel cable system for each bike that i can lock to eyebolts in the wall. I know one guy who locks his high end bikes with a cable but has a cheap 26er MTB unlocked and easy to remove as a slave bike. His thinking if they rob his house they'll take the slave bike because its quick and easy instead of trying to cut through locks and cables Luckily my garage is part of my house and my property is a panhandle in a cul de sac.
  2. I tend to agree - virtually everyday these last few weeks i see stolen bike posts from Western Cape - Was gonna move there from Gauteng but i have 8 bikes and 8 chances of being robbed 🤯
  3. What about a stolen bike stat - qty by province ?
  4. 3 Towers was probably the best value for money in terms of stage races - Was on my bucket list, but alas ! I procrastinated and missed the boat. Hopefully the new guys will find a sponsor and bring it back. We did the first Lowveld Quest 4 day challenge, organized by same guys (previous owners of Mankele), was our first stage race and then went on to do S2C and B&B - Lowveld Quest was far better than both.
  5. Its a real pity - But I remember a number of years back when their anchor sponsor stepped out (A certain big Ag company) we then, also an Ag brand looked at stepping in as main sponsor. Even with our big marketing budget we were astounded at what they wanted and a certain level of arrogance of take it or leave it - It sounded like their was a que of sponsors lining up with their cheque books.
  6. I feel your pain - I've had so much K$K with BT connections - I now only use Ant+ My daughter immigrated and left her older MacBook Pro at home, so i decided to use it as a dedicated training laptop only on BT connection - Oh Lordy Lordy !! I'm sure i would get a job at apple as a developer after all the research i did trying to solve the connectivity issues Now i'm back to Win10 on my Lenova laptop with 2 Ant+ dongles (1 for each app) works perfect and has never crashed.
  7. I have both TR is my goTo app, but I was fortunate to get grandfathered in when they increased their subs so I still only pay $99.00 per year as long as I stay a member and pay on time every year ZWIFT I originally joined and basically used the free 25km monthly use. But TR becomes tedious and boring day in and day out, so I started mixing up my indoor training with both apps. the lekka thing with Zwift is you can pay for the months you want to use it, if for some reason you not gonna be using it for 3 or 4 months you simply stop paying. I now simply load enough $ on my USD virtual card at the beginning of each year and let it debit me each month - out of sight out of mind I also use the TR & ZWIFT at the same time - so TR training plans while riding in ZWIFT - I get full use of both apps
  8. Haha we both been down the same rabbit hole. But wait there is more. Subscription to Trainerroad Subscription to ZWIFT, because TR can get tedious and boring - but have the best training plans More Ant+ & BT dongles so you can do TR sessions while riding in ZWIFT When LG launch their ZWIFT curved overhead monitor - that will be next Oh wait - after that there will be VR goggles I wonder who will design the BOT that will do my training sessions while i sit on the couch and watch Netflix
  9. Jussie !!! what's happening in Western Cape - Nearly every day there be a stolen bike report and almost always in Western Cape
  10. Lifetime warranty is on frame only - worked for me, bought a superfly in 2012 and it cracked in 2019, they replaced the frame c/w new rear shock with a Top Fuel 9.9 frame. They have my support forever. But those new SCOTTS are veeery naaaaice though.
  11. I did think about this but I've tried to contact MAXXIS in the past and they are useless especially when it comes to MTB tires. But i see on Google that rush sport is the distributor for Maxxis - maybe i'll send them an email - I wont hold my breath though.
  12. I've only ever ridden MAXXIS tires. the rear has always been a Crossmark and never had issues. I recently changed to the Crossmark II 29 X 2.25. Initially it was perfect, but now it has developed a serious wobble after probably 12 - 15 rides, to a point where i thought my wheel was out of true. I put the wheel in my truing stand and there was some very minor adjustments that were made - check the rim for damage, bead groves all 100% remounted the tire with soapy water, made sure it was seated 100% using the ridge on the tire, no leaks - and it still has a serious wobble in fact its so bad if i ride downhill at speed on a smooth road i can feel it. when i check it in the truing stand with the tire mounted its out up to 15mm on one point. I've had tires with slight wobble before on a straight rim and not really an issue as its very slight, but this is like the rim is seriously buckled anyone else had this issue with MAXXIS.
  13. All this calorie counting and measuring foods just takes too much time and is confusing. I use HR zone 70 - 75 % of max - used to use 220 - age but my FTP tests indicate i can go 12 - 15 BPM higher so now i use that. Cut out all bread Cut out all fizzy drinks and fruit juices no dop - nothing nadda ! only 1 starch at dinner, never 2 so no rice and potats, its either rice or potats no sugar - sweets - cake - cookies and all that lekka stuff Eat out, its meat, chicken or fish (grilled never fried) and side salad, no chips, onion rings - I don't do restaurant veggies either, my wife forces that down my throat at home. I just hit the big 60's so its not easy to shred weight especially around your gut, but i target 0.9 - 1.0 kg a week loss. 5 years ago i could do 1.2 kg a week. Out of interest - training intensity of 70 - 75 is the key - for the last 2.5 months of 2021 i trained 5 - 6 times a week chasing disco points, I had to keep the intensity at 90 - 100 % of max HR - i lost 0 weight. the last time i trained with that amount of volume at 75% over the same period i lost 11 kg
  14. This is where i value my dropper post, stopping on a hill like that, drop the post it's a lot easier to get rolling again
  15. I would never let my bike out of my sight especially at a bike park or have it washed by those wash guys. - I don't even leave it on my bike rack after a ride when we go smash a coffee afterwards, it leans against the table I sit at. With so many people and bikes about, its very easy for anyone to simply walk off with your bike and no one would ask questions. For me, the local bike bike parks and race events are the highest risk of getting your bike stolen. Not even at stage races did I allow them near my bike with those HP washers. Like SwissVan says - If bike parks wanna offer a bike wash facility they should offer a few wash bays with hoses/buckets and brushes, Huddle Park & the old Mankele did it and you washed your own bike.
  16. Disco should dump all the free and discounted stuff and rather give you a discount on your Medical aid premium based on your level starting at 0 and increasing by 5% for each tier - Now that would be good value and could save many some serious cash
  17. And also the unrealistic numbers you are expected to get on assessments Blood Pressure has to be below 120/80 - Last year I was 120/81 they tested it 4 times and couldn't get below 80 = boom no points ! When i spoke to my doctor about my BP, he tested it and it was 120/94 - he laughed and said its fine. BMI = below 25 - So at 185 cm i need to weigh just under 85Kg - The last time I weighed that was when I did Sani2C and people were commenting how sick I looked, wife wanted be to got for the big C test was convinced I was ill
  18. It all depends on what you want it for. I would say NO unless you have Insurance policies with annual & 5 year payback then it makes a huge difference in your payback. The other problem is.... are all the members on your scheme as active as you ? and will they get their activity points every year. If you have a partner that doesn't do sport or train then it becomes a struggle & a hassle to get to Gold/Diamond. So if all members get their 30K activity points easily each year, then it s a walk in the park to do the other online assessments and checkups. I have their CC so any points off the weekly game board I get go into the Disco miles pot and I use them at Dischem mainly. Only other time i use them is for free coffee at M&B. And of course every now and again they hand out a crazy voucher - Like the Sportmans R 250.00 voucher which cost R 15.00.
  19. When I bought a bike rack, one of the features had to be foldability and storage and the reason i bought the BOSAL, at the time the THULE's were all over 6K and the BOSAL was R 2 600.00 direct from BOSAL in Pta and came with a storage bag- had it for 10 years and still working perfect - Pity they not on the market anymore.
  20. Reminded me of the "Rock Racing Team" full of bad boys and chalked up some good results until it was disbanded - I always wanted a set of their kit, just like now I want LA's WEDU kit, already have it in ZWIFT and Floyd's of Leadville has some cool kit as well.
  21. Thought this thread would be the right place to post this, seen Floyd was one of the naudy boys back in the day - will be interesting to watch how this team progresses. https://www.mtbr.com/threads/tinker-juarez-joins-floyd-landis-to-launch-new-mountain-and-gravel-team.1198437/
  22. What irritates me even more are the 24 000 hrs of ads you need to watch before you can watch the actual video.
  23. That is not a Dream - Looks like an Oval Master with steel fork. Not worth much based on its condition and mix mach of components, also not a collectable frame - In my opinion 2- 2,5K, but that's just my opinion.
  24. Lets not forget Anna Kiesenhofer won gold in Tokyo Olympics - No coach and used intervals.icu as her analytics
  25. Well you get coaches and then you get coaches - Maybe if you wanna mix it in the pro peloton or racing VETS, other than that I honestly cannot see where a coach can deliver better value for money than TR or ZWIFT training sessions for us mere mortals. Couple of my mates signed up a coach for Sani2C, turns out all the coach was doing was using Intervals.icu and sending them cookie cutter training sessions and charging them an arm and a leg. TR Adaptive training with a plan from their plan builder + Intervals.icu & a proper diet plan from a dietician and you be good to go.
