  1. Can only comment on Red Barn & NF Red barn = Safety 8/10 (never had an issue but you never know) Trails = 9/10 but dont get over confident, or you be using some medical aid after all its a very loooong BMX track. Can get wet and muddy after it rains but all rideable in my experience NF = Safety 9/10 (also never had an issue but there have been some incidents a few years back - visible security along the trails) Trails 10/10 - Mix of everything and well designed, most technical sections loop off and back onto main trails so its easy to cut them out if you not into tech riding. Can also get muddy after rains but mostly rideable I like NF best - because there's nothing like the smell of fresh cowsh$t early in the morning
  2. This was my point in my previous post - OEM will rip you a new one - with headset bearings its a bit more complicated as most bearing shops wont keep this design and headset bearings come in many different designs and sizes - But there are many after market headset bearing manufacturers like Cane Creek who can offer an exact replacement far cheaper.
  3. GX - Eagle AXS - If you want to splurge a bit of cash or GX - Eagle mech. or NX - Eagle mech. if you on a budget. Freehub - Try using standard SRAM/SHITMANO splines - you have more price point options on cassettes XD drive you limited for SRAM cassettes and they are pricey (Same with Shitmano micro spline) But! make sure whoever installs it and sets it up knows what they doing - the set up instructions must be followed to the letter - Its not complicated but if not followed you will not be a happy camper. Many SRAM haters were made because whoever did the installation and setup didn't know what they were doing.
  4. Back in the day during Machine Design classes, bearing selection was mainly based on. Type of bearing selected from type of load - Axial (thrust), Radial , Angular etc Max load or force the bearing will experience Max shaft speed. If you look at any bearing selection chart the loads and speeds that most bearings are designed for, are far in excess that any application will produce on a bicycle, in fact a bearing is probably the most over designed part of a bicycle today - Back in the old days most bikes had separate balls and races and still today the cheap bikes still use them. This was because, normal bearings were/are expensive and their design far exceeded the application requirements. Take a standard 6002 deep groove bearing Dynamic load design is 5.59kN (Approx 571 kg) Design speed is 22000 - 26000 rpm depending on the seal type you select. By design even the cheapies should last a million years on a bike application. Bearing failure is mostly moisture, dirt and lack of maintenance. Even the most expensive will fail at some point as a result - More expensive = better material and will obv last longer than cheaper materials. Bearings at your LBS like "Enduro" are expensive because of the BS they feed you "Its special" - "they are specifically designed for bicycles" - "they made from special materials". OEM's also use strange sizes or designs that are not easily available on the open market because replacement parts are big business for them and you are forced to buy from them so they charge you what they want. Once you establish the correct size - Any after market bearing of a respectable brand is just as good of not better.
  5. Kstar Model UA60 - I think I paid 800 ronds at a pc shop - have run my Kickr Core on it for 1hr 30 min works perfect. Run ZWIFT or TR off tablet or Iphone via BT
  6. Those P&K truing stands are awesome pieces of engineering. I considered one but then settled on a Park Tool Pro stand and got the dial gauges as well
  7. mmm maybe i should relook at this idea, I started setting up a wheel building station of which i have acquired all or most of the tools already sitting in their boxes under my workbench - My idea was to build it from a hobby business to a retirement business one day which is now fast approaching - cutting and selling spokes to LBS and other wheel builders might just make it a good add on. I would be okay if the machine could pay for itself in 2 - 2.5 years.
  8. Wow ! is that what the Phil wood cost now - I wanted to bring one in 7 years ago, can't remember the exact price i worked out but it wasnt near 100K - That be a lot of spokes to cut to get a return Out of interest what do spokes generally sell for now ?
  9. And mostly the response is "We are prohibited by the importer to provide discounts"
  10. Like ChrisF said - use the thinner link from the piece you broke off and use 2 quick links - sorted
  11. If you go with CIOVITA make sure you try it on first to get your size right - Their cut are for small people who speak Italian
  12. Local prices are insane but have been coming down slightly these last 4 - 5 weeks - I'm about to go on a little trip and @ ROE 17.8 + 19% taxes in the country i'm going to order online prices are still 25 - 30% cheaper.
  13. Sorry but I need to disagree with you to a point - I've ridden those trails since they were originally introduced, I have also lived in Edenvale my entire life and worked for a number of years at AECI in the very area that the trials are built, so i know the rainfall and the basic geography of the area. this year is a la Nino year, so yes we getting more than normal rain, but approx 5 years ago we had the same conditions and the trails were never in such a state of disrepair. Basic maintenance and complete lack of trail management is squarely to blame. if it had been on point they would have managed the current conditions without having to close the entire trail network. Yes trails all over the country are periodically closed for maintenance, but never an entire trail network. Not once have i seen them close a trail for maintenance at Modders and now it has come home to bite them. Now all the annual pass holder should simply suck it up and accept it. Sounds very similar to when the previous management went tits up and absconded with everyone's money. But at least they had a preventative trail maintenance program in place. Many people think that because its called "Modderfontein" its a marsh, which is actually incorrect as the majority of the ground is made up of hard rock sandstone and granular material which drains fairly quickly into the various ravine channels and rivers feeding the dams. many of these ravines were originally designed by AECI to ensure drainage as the area was used primarily for storing explosives in the many bunkers you see there today. Yes there there are places where it is muddy, but a lot of this is surface mud with hardpack below mainly in areas where water has been allowed to accumulate or close to the rivers. The few clay areas are not really anywhere near the trails. Every summer the trails have been rideable with maybe a few small closed off sections due to washouts. Taroko have spent millions on the trial head and parking area, but they have completely neglected their core product offering as well as their customers. when its a spade then lets call it a spade
  14. It all depends on what other Disco products you have and what benefit you will get by being on vitality and getting to Diamond status each year. Example i have life products with integrator payback, the payback amount is based on my vitality status and works out to serious money if I'm on diamond. I'm not with their bank other than their CC - I certainly don't need a Med aid company telling me how to run my financial affairs - so I cannot comment on any benefit there may be in terms of banking It will have zero benefit on your Med Aid plan - I'm on the same as you. I have also recently for the first time used the fitness gear discount + a vitality voucher i got and saved about 1400 ronds on a heart rate strap Lots of free coffees and a couple (2 or 3) of cheap flights over the last 20 years If it wasn't for the life products I have, I would have dumped vitality years ago.
  15. Call me a sucker but i rode there again last Saturday, saw about 1% mmmm no maybe 0.5% improvement on the grass cutting - Saw some of the trails blocked off with banner tape, maybe this is their understanding of trail maintenance, if its not maintained just shut it down. Some of the seriously rutted sections also blocked off with no clear detour around them, you kind of need to make your own way through the bush onto the the trail again. Clearly they not concerned, especially in terms of MTB trails, even the previous management who skipped town eventually had better trail management skills and at least made more of an effort during summer. So Taroko ! If you following this thread - Stop taking MTBers for granted either close the trails and refund the annual passes pro-rata or get a professional trail builder in to fix the place up so we can carry on supporting you.
  16. Excellent initiative - I really hope they don't get vandalized, saw a similar thing in Germany but with an added honesty box where you dropped in a few oroe coins just to help finance the maintenance of the units. There are so many people and companies in our country that have good initiatives and ideas only to be shelved because of the criminality risks we face
  17. I would try at least 1 X 100km ride before the event to let your ass know what its in for.
  18. Jussie - I hope the commentator has a day job 🤣
  19. So this is an interesting discussion on Warranty policies - I work for an OEM and our warranty policy and what we do after products are out of warranty has also left a few customers irritated. The bottom line is, once the product is out of the warranty period, then legally the OEM has not further obligation in terms of cost. On our products, if it fails after warranty we look at each individual case and a decision is taken - Most time we will not cover the repair 100% but we offer some type of restitution or goodwill like 50% on parts and 100% on labor excl lubricant. - In almost all the cases the customer is still not happy using the reasoning that the failure is not supposed to happen in the short life of the product, and if the OEM is willing to contribute to the repair in the form of goodwill then they are admitting liability and should repair 100% at their cost. So it always turns into a sh@tshow and normally we end up losing the customer to our competition, of course until he has the same issue with their product and realizes we weren't being that unreasonable after all. In my view OEM should never offer a goodwill gesture - many do this for customer retention, which in a lot of cases does work but in a lot of cases it doesn't. We find a lot of customers opt for 3rd party repair which is almost always cheaper than an OEM repair. Where Garmin are basically charging the OP 4K for a battery replacement is just stupid money - But expected from an OEM who don't sell spare parts for their products. On Ifixit the Fenix battery replacement is listed as Easy under difficulty and takes 30 min - In the comments section people are saying they paid 15 pound for a battery, this is why I say 4k is just stupid. If it was my watch and Garmin don't improve the offer i would replace the battery myself or find someone in the repair game to do it
  20. I have a question - when Garmin offers a unit at a reduced price - do you get to keep the old broken unit ?
  21. I had the same issue at RedBarn Dec 2020 - came off a stupid drop-off I had done many times before, front wheel washed out and I broke 2 ribs - No where as serious as your injuries, but it took 3 months to recover, but also time to reflect at 59 now 60 that we shouldn't be doing this sh@t anymore, bouncing around on a XC trail or BMXing jumps like a 15 year old should be left to the Pro's and 15 year old's. Now Chicken runs are my friend and I'm not embarrassed to get off the bike and walk if I'm not confident of the obstacles.
  22. My thoughts as well and probably the only reason i wouldn't pull the trigger on a set.
  23. Tyrewiz is almost double the price - But your point is the first thing I thought of - Wonder how long it would be until a rock or stone claps the thing on the trails.
  24. Well to be honest the Trainer didn't completely drain the UPS - Kickr was connected probably for 1 hr 10 min and it was still running when I finished and disconnected it - I then switched on my WiFi router and about 10 - 15 minutes later the UPS started beeping faster which means it about to shut down and then the power came on.
  25. Okay so i know this is an old thread but on topic Current round of load-shedding for my area right over my ID training time in the afternoon I bought a UA60 Kstar UPS (spec can be found here https://www.kstar.com/LineInteractiveUPS/10162.jhtml) some months back basically to run my WiFi during load-shedding and wanted to know if it would run my Kickr for an hour using TR app off my iPhone - I go searching Google, because I'm a dumbass on all things electrical especially calculations and i get brought onto this thread. The long and short of it i got 1 hr 20 min before the UPS shut down - Maybe this info helps answer if a 600 ronds UPS will run a Kickr trainer
