  1. For the past 6 years or so every time I fly to Cape Town I see a British Airways 747 parked there. It doesn't seem to have moved in all that time. Does anyone know the story?
  2. I was facing the same decision 1.5 years ago. I decided to buy the Saeco (R10k back then) and I don't regret it. Great coffee cup after cup.
  3. Boca - River Copa Libertadores final tonight promises to be a cracker!
  4. One of my all time favourite tracks is You Make Loving Fun from that album. Awesome Christine McVie's voice and, of course, Lindsay Buckingham's guitar.
  5. Should we let Kiwis and Aussies settle it over a match of rugby?
  6. I'm a fan of 80s new wave music and the other day I was taking stock of, among others, the Aussie bands of that era and how good they were. Here's to name just a few: Icehouse Men at work Crowded house INXS Midnight oil
  7. I've considered lecturing in the past and may consider it again!
  8. That's awesome. I should have followed the same route. I struggled a lot with OO concepts back then and that's why I decided to go the BA route. But now I'm finally getting it thanks to all the resources available on the Internet and I got my first Android app on Google store. Working on my second one! LOL! Thanks Bonus!
  9. Howzit fellow hubbers, So, here I am. 56 and retrenched since July. Trying to go back to my roots by reinventing myself as a modern-age mobile app programmer. Not sure if I'll be able to make a living as independent or freelancer with my age and experience but decided to give it a try anyway. The learning curve is huge, but enjoying it very much. I didn't even want to try and look for a job as a Business Analyst or PM as I didn't really enjoyed it for the past 15 years. And, again, age and skin colour not in my favour. Other colleague that also got retrenched in April with a similar profile has not been able to even get an interview. The thing that I really struggle with sometimes is to believe that I'm still relevant at 56. But whenever I feel negative about it I just climb on my bike and that cheers me up instantly. The trick is to stay positive and keep on learning new things that we love. Life will take care of the rest. Thank you for reading!
  10. What do VE and VD stand for?
  11. What do you mean with old?
  12. I've also noticed wet spots on my back RR. They tend to go away when I add new sealant, Ryder in my case. I'm on my second back tyre after 4.5 years but I rarely ride more than 30km on a weekend.
  13. Looks like it will be my next investment too! Never heard of these things, thanks!
  14. Over the years I learnt to clean the cassette after 4-5 rides, depending on conditions, and it's relatively easy. On Sunday, though, I was tasked to clean my friend's bike and took me a few hours to get all that gunk out. Will check Namgear, thanks!
  15. I've used rags as well after I scrub with Kleen Green and, yes, it's the only way to get all the gunk between the cogs out. But I thought maybe WD40 would do a better job in dissolving the gunk with less quantities and elbow grease. Not that my cassettes ever get that dirty but just to save some time.
  16. Never thought of that!
  17. True, but I was wondering maybe because it's sprayed then there's less of it to dispose of.
  18. Agree. I've tried paraffin before but disposing of it is a hassle. I normally use Kleen Green but requires a lot of scrubbing. I was wondering if WD40 spray can dissolve the cassette gunk more effectively.
  19. ... interesting. I wonder if it will remove thick gunk from the cassette.
  20. Has anyone seen Seth's bike hacks video where he uses WD40 to clean a cassette? According to him WD40 is not a lubricant but a solvent. Anyone tried it and how did it go?
  21. Hi guys - watch out the Riversands area. There was an incident yesterday. Two guys got mugged at gunpoint. If it wasn't for a group of ladies on horseback that charged towards the 4 perps it could have been ugly. Fortunately they only got away with a tool bag. One of the cyclists got hit on the head but nothing serious. At least he managed to keep his one day old Cannondale!
  22. Then you will be able to rent a cottage in the Isle of Man, if it's not too dear. :-)
  23. Yes, it could be unrelated. Just be careful with analgesics after riding and/or if you're dehydrated. Doctor told me it's very bad for the kidneys.
  24. It's possible. Do you still have pain?
  25. Hi guys - My kidney stone issues started at the beginning of April during my Sunday ride. I thought I wouldn't be able to cycle back home. I just stopped for coffee at Riversands for 20 minutes and I was able to ride back home with no pain. I never suspected what happened and gave it no importance. Then the following Wednesday night it struck at home out of nowhere. Unbearable pain. I was rushed to Fourways Life and, yup, kidney stone. One passed and the other one was not obstructing so the doctor said just to take it easy. Since he wasn't specific I just rested that weekend and the next went for a ride. No pain that day but, again that Wednesday morning had to be rushed again. Lo and behold the stone came loose and was now obstructing. The only thing the doctor could do was to but a stent (no strings attached ;-) and wait for 2 weeks until the kidney healed and be ready for laser surgery as it was quite swollen. So last week I went for surgery and the bugger was removed. This time I was left with a stent with a string that doctor pulled out on Monday. Before I knew it it was out, but yes, it's rather painful, or rather uncomfortable, while is in place. Doctor said I can ride this weekend but take it easy on flat terrain. I can't wait! Again, doctor recommended stay hydrated. The stone is being analysed and he'll let me know of there's a special diet I should follow. Soooo.... stay hydrated out there peeps!
