  1. Depends on which phase of periodisation they're in. Less in the off-season and after big races. More in the build up to big races I would guess (I'm not a coach). Paging Mr. Wakefield....
  2. They do. Every spring. Pro riders will combine them in different ratios depending on the time of year. So should we.
  3. As always it isn't binary: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.today.com/today/amp/tdna228446 Best way to lose weight is to combine them...like the pros do 🙂
  4. Indeed. The weight loss/snake oil market is worth trillions. Testimony to humans wanting to take short cuts instead of putting the work in ðŸĪŠ
  5. Damn. I burn around double that: 3,443 calories in 3.5 hours according to Garmin Connect. Low Zone 2 at 243w. I'm 82kg.
  6. I really enjoyed that. I used to play with liquid nitrogen, dry ice, liquid oxygen and liquid argon for a living 🙂
  7. You can only adjust your fat/carb energy usage a small amount - intensity of exercise has a far greater impact on the ratio than "training" your body tp use fat. The keto diet is overhyped - a good, balanced energy deficit diet is a far safer and better way to lose and maintain weight.
  8. I'm in the fasted morning work out camp. It has worked for me for many Spring campaigns. That and running. As others have said - the boring, logical and successful way is maintaining a negative calorie lifestyle for a few weeks/months. There are no shortcuts sadly.
  9. Too much social media is bad for you. It gives you the wrong impression of the world. The average person isn't a criminal or bad driver but after an hour on social media ALL drivers are bad and criminals are EVERYWHERE!
  10. Titanium was far better fatigue resistance than steel and alu so it is far less likely to crack. That and it has to be welded in an oxygen free environment so it is generally welded by better welders in far more controlled environment/better QC.
  11. It's all about the stress raiser! Whether it's an inclusion in base metal, a poorly designed/executed heat treatment cycle, a poorly designed joint, a overly acute angle, a badly prepared/executed weld, a poorly installed rivnut - a crack almost always starts at a weakness and propagates into a broken frame. This is called fatigue failure and is the most common cause of failure in metals. Carbon fiber I know less about but would guess that compression and shock are it's main cause of failure. Also made worse by stress raisers like voids, poor layering technique, low quality fibre etc.
  12. Excellent info - thanks Frosty!
  13. Daaaaamn! That is an awesome photo! Once in a lifetime shot. Or a ordinary Tuesday for Chris - the man with the golden eye 🙂
  14. So this morning one of my 20something year old clients told me he will be giving up his 2022 post on his race team as per team doctor's advice. He had myocarditis after contracting covid and it hasn't eased yet. This is my second client to lose a contract based on covid - the other one (also a 20something) got covid in (european) spring last year and was ordered off the bike for 3 months. Needless to say it wiped out his 2021 season and his contract wasn't renewed. Covid also reduced the team budget for 2022 so I guess covid double farked him. Some my other customers decided to skip gran fondos, training camps, spanish riding holidays etc after getting covid. That said the majority of my clients who got covid took 10 days off and resumed training with little to no side effects. As the others have said - listen to your body. In general covid is not too bad (and Omicron looks even better) but there is a higher risk of complications, long term after effects etc when compared to illnesses we already know. We also don't fully understand covid yet... Do a full heart check up and get doctor's advice if you suspect anything.
  15. I'm pretty sure the Smash It part was sarcastic but given that people have told us about friends that have died right here on the thread your comment was downright insensitive at best and borderline dangerous at worst. Following that poor attempt at humour up by lumping viruses into a one "rest and hydrate" cure and downplaying the seriousness of covid is terrible advice. Long covid and damage to lungs, heart etc is a rare but real thing.
  16. Ebola is also a virus. One strain of it kills 90% of people who contract it by liquifying their organs - another strain kills 0% of people because it doesn't even make them sick. Stop spreading misinformation that could potentially cause people harm.
  17. Every year my birthday is bittersweet. I hope you're smashing KOMs in the afterlife of your choice Burry.
  18. Hint: There are more typos. In the name. Of the thing you're moaning about.
  19. World Powerman Champs. In Europe. In May. Who does that? Ah yes. Mr. Covid makes it so. I'm smashing the Treadmill and Zwift in the basement Pain Cave. Currently -10 and snowing outside....
  20. Ok so he has one redeeming quality 🙂
  21. And the guy uses fake world champ stripes as his logo. 100% pure class.
  22. Ahhh Floyd. I don't hate many riders but that scumbag deserves full scorn. Deny deny deny, set up Floyd Fairness Fund to defend his innocence, steal money, 'fess up then take make more cash ratting out your fellow dopers to the US government. Class act through and through.
  23. Yup. Someone pulled a naughty move and sold you OEM products instead of Retail. Exactly the same stuff just different packaging. Theoretically OEM products should never hit retail space but yeah - manufacturers sell old groups and dodgy folk buy bulk from Shimano based on being a manufacturer but then sell directly to the public.
  24. I did not know this! No win for Byron but tons of good marketing for the man! https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/alex-bogna-scores-life-changing-alpecin-fenix-zwift-academy-contract/
  25. Piddy coming into form nicely: https://www.cyclingnews.com/races/uci-cyclo-cross-world-cup-10-rucphen-2021/elite-men/results/
