  1. Hi i did both the otter and tsitsikamma a few years ago. used the slack pack option for Tsitsikamma. drop off each day. we were a big group. 15 persons i think. we ate like KINGS. only 6 day that i actually gained weight. both hikes was tough but manageable. I used an 80 lt bag. with a split in it. bought the Red mountain chk website( the guys that use to make Karrimor in SA). Make sure the bag has a rain cover. What we also did was use a black bag or stronger one from plastic supplier and slipped inside our backpack to make sure your belongings don't get wet. Food stuff we shared the weight across the members. Eating heavier items earlier and the noodles and biltong the last few days. We also worked out our menu well beforehand to see what we were able to carry. Braai was on day one . clothes u need to buy good quality. check capestorm first accent. light and warm etc. waterproof poncho too. we also used gaitors helped with the wet conditions so that your boots don't fill with water. i built my collection of equipment over the years. WRT river crossings take note the water level will be low and all of a sudden a big wave comes along and washes up stream. we lost a few walking sticks and gaitors this way at our very first crossing. the ranger warned us of taking any chancers with crossing the rivers. under currents are strong. they have taken a few lives already. we also used a big bag ( that our back pack could fit into when crossing rivers that were deeper. a rope will come in handy. the one river ( think storms river) we took the escape route which was tough. similar to platteklip. the rangers collected us and dropped us off at the otherside to hike till the next hut. accomodation was good. wood available, nice huts. the ups and downs of otter will get to you. but the views and scenery are well worth it. pack in some voltarens too. they help u sleep lekka. both hikes are excellent and well worth the trip. i will chk if i have the emails wrt the hike and pm u.
  2. load test only takes a few minutes. Also have the cars charge rate check. The alternator might not be charging upto spec.
  3. depending on what make u have....some batteries have a 2 year warranty... so check your receipt. think the exide sealed units carry a 2 year warranty. have the battery load tested at an electrical or battery place. this will show if one of the cells are dead.
  4. shot will check it out. thanks

  7. Hi., seeing that this thread is about pivot bearings and bushes. can someone please shed some light on how to service/lube them on the Scott Spark 920? what type of lube etc or is it better to order a new set of bearings/bushes and replace? i bought the bike 2nd hand and recently noticed little creaks when powering thru the pedal strokes.thanks in advance.
  8. And this my friend was the winner. Thank you Sir. the levers feel and bite just awesome!!
  9. think im going to try this. maybe make the block a wee little thinner. if this doesn't work will then re bleed. thanks for all the response.
  10. only bottom to top. think maybe I should try the gravity bleed..
  11. bleed from bottom to top.... Should I do it the other way around too?
  12. Hi, i need some advice/help. I have a Scott Spark 920 2014 bike. it is fitted with SLX brakes. The problem is with the rear brakes. I have recently fitted new pads and did a bleed as per above. When pressing the lever it travels almost half way before biting. I also noticed that the pistons retract far back into the calipers. the levers feel fine. no spongy feeling. Did I: 1. not bleed them properly 2. my ghetto block too thick 3. ???? any help will be appreciated. thanks

  14. So this morning in traffic single lane but wide enough for 2 cars, this bakkie is standing stationery behind the other cars in peak traffic. He then decides to go left, overtaking the other stationery cars, there was also a vehicle parked on the left in front of us. I was approaching on the left hand side at about 35km/h/. i shout "watch" and manage to squeeze between the bakkie and pavement. The bakkie then pulls alongside me and ask why i shouted. he then swore at me " my p*@s" and told me that he did see me. After he swore me i returned the gesture with a "f... u" he then threaten that he will knock me off my bike. i took a pic of the bakkie and reg no. do i report it or just let it slide and move on....
  15. my SID came with the same remote lock out. it broke after the 3rd ride. if u ask me its not a good design. bought a different one and works way better. think it costed about R500. will post a pic when i find one. good luck.

  18. hi, need some help i was in tokai on level 5 about to descend. i felt that my wheels were a bit too hard and deflated them a bit. on the way down the rear wheel went soft that i even kinked the rim slightly. i stopped and tried to bomb the wheel. the air kept on leaking. i then removed wheel and fitted tube and got home. back at home i opened wheel up removed tube added sealant( i noticed when i opened tyre on mountain there was very little sealant in) and pumped wheel up. i had to inflate almost maximum before it stopped leaking. i left it overnight and it retained the pressure. next day i deflated till 2 bars and went for a ride. 5km from home i started loosing air again, between tyre and rim. i quikly inflated at garage and it held for the trip to tokai and back home. ( 54km) question 1: do i remove tyre and try an straighten the kink. could this cause the leak? 2: could the old sealant that hardened between tyre and rim cause a leak? should i remove tyre clean it up nicely and refit? ps i fitted them tyres about 3 years ago and never had any troubles. thanks Seraaj
  19. saw this old red mazda ( egi shape like in the old continental advert) about 630 ish in simons. he came out the side road close to station and went towards smits direction. funny thing is after passing the golf course he passed us again..... could be someone from the area.... im thinking.
  20. Hi saeley sorry to hear about your ordeal What time was this? We did this route this am. Very early. Was it perhaps a mazda 323 single occupant?
  21. hi Guys thanks for all the tips. will def. try them. as i said i have done a few 26ers ghetto style with the same tape and crossmarks which pumped up 1st time. lemme give it another go. once again thanks for the top tips!! Seraaj
  22. hi, need some help. I am changing a friends std 29er giant wheels(on a Giant Talon) to tubeless. did the whole tape thing, valves are in. problem comes with tyres. we bought specialized TL ready Fastrack tyres. they don't want to seat. used soap but cant get wheels to inflate. tried the garage pump, removed cores nothing seems to work. the one tyre is a 2.2 the other a 2.0. both don't wanna inflate. anybody have a trick please. I have even inverted the tyres for a while to stretch them a bit. I have done a few on 26er wheels and pumped with a floor pump 1st time. pls any help will be appreciated. thanks
  23. reminds me of the medallion last year. i started further back in the pack to ride with a friend. we were going up new hells. passing all the slower riders. coming up to this 2 guys with same shirts, the one infront of the other. we just see the front rider go closer to the steel barrier. clips the barrier and falls over the barrier. it was K@K funny to see. his friend didnt know what to do. luckly the guy got up dusted himself and climbed back over the barrier. it was so funny. i guess just his ego got hurt lol
  24. this incident reminds me about a ride we did a few weeks back. we were coming down Red Hill towards Simons Town. the bends are pretty tight. i normally descend infront of my friends ( im a little faster). i take the tight turn to my left and to my surprise there is a bus full of passengers struggling up. I immediately think of my friends behind me, they gonna get the bus on the bend. I stop and look back. the 1st guy comes thru. he went into the gutter to avoid the bus. the whole tail end of the bus was on the wrong side. my 2nd buddy is not so lucky. he is already in the gutter and the busses rear panel is scraping his leg. he bangs on the bus maintains his balance and survives. i tell u he saw his life flash infront of him. Im not sure if busses are allowed up red hill from Simons Town. Scary moment that was.

    99er crash out

hi i think my brother was in front of the guy( shafiek). There was some wheel overlapping. all my brother felt was someone skidding against his rear tyre and then there was a crash behind him. according my bro there wasn't much he good do. i have been cycling on the road for about 11 years now. And Alhamdulilah( thank God) i haven't been involved in any crashes. i am these days even more terrified/ on my nerves when riding in groups. there are many new roadies joining the sport which i think is great, but they all need to be taught or given some pointers on how to ride in groups. Riders do very silly things in peletons. we had a guy yesterday in a big group of about 30-40 riders, riding on the line of the cat=eyes. Everytime he would get one he would swerve out causing near collisions instead of just riding steadily on the yellow line. people come down hard on their brakes whip out water bottles on odd times, over lap wheels and hell just don't concentrate. Don't talk about the riders that think they can just jump into the middle of every peleton that passes lol. so maybe PPA or race organisers etc should maybe publish or try and hold some classes or something like skills clinics on how to ride in peletons... just my 2 cents
