  13. Is this new or been in the pipeline for a while? Doesn't look to shabby at all. Always thought disc brakes look crap on MTB's http://velonews.competitor.com/2012/03/bikes-and-tech/colnago-brings-the-discs_208467
  14. How lovely, so they off-load the bikes that has been pre-booked and paid for. Thats just a lame response. Off course they cant know who will rock up with a fridge (believe me I've seen this before) wanting to check it in. That is the stuff they need to off-load. If you come there 10kgs overweight on your check-in luggage they either charge you extra or they should refuse to check-in said passenger and luggage. If you told them before you're travelling with your bike, and they took your money, they must plan accordingly.
  15. Only question is whether there is a big enough market in Easy London???
  16. And thats what I mean about adapting to crime. At some point it was okay on the lawn outside. Then it had to be locked in the garage. Now it's in his bedroom. Whats next?
  17. Again, if my bike gets stolen twice this year, it’s not going to make me feel better. My problem is with how we are conditioned by the circumstances we live in and the things we are subjected to. We adapt in order to survive crime. We are used to high fences and burglar proofing. Leaving yourself a bit of room between the car in front of you at the robot when you have to stop late at night. All the things you do to keep yourself safe. It’s like the other thread about Mango not loading someone’s bikes. The quality of service drops and the more it drops, we have to get used to lower levels of service. What exactly else can we do? My sister had an armed robbery at her house last year. Their take on it is that they can’t stop living because of it. You take the precautions but you have to live and move on. You have to become hardened to the situations you get exposed to. I just feel we get so used to crime we offer the “material things” philosophy. Being hijacked is okay for as long as you survived and came away unscathed. What’s next? Being raped is okay provided they don’t kill you?
  18. Reminds me of the lyrics of a certain song: “…I’m tired of being a poor nigger; worse I’m black, my stomach hurts so I’m looking for a purse to snatch…”
  19. True! But in some places more so than in others. A LOT MORE SO.
  20. There's no such thing as a free lunch!
  21. I fly with airlines that pay me "interrim cash" on the same day they lose my luggage. And anyone who checks in a $1000 worth of goods (sporting and other goods excluded) is asking for trouble anyway
  22. Nope! The catch is in that "extra" you mention. Do you really need it? Only insurance I have is on the car (they won't allow me to drive without it). No insurance on household goods. I saw you can now insure your salary even. Insurance companies thrive on generating fear.
  23. I never bother with travel insurance either. Just another way for agents to bump up the price
  24. The “it is just material things” argument is very little consolation I’m afraid. With the hijackings threads that is often fronted as a “make me feel better” proposition. If I was in the OP’s position I won’t be feeling better about having my property stolen (material things or not). We’re getting satisfied with less. 20 years ago we were happy about being able to ride our bikes without having to worry about being hijacked. Nowadays we must be satisfied with being able to ride our bikes while constantly looking over our shoulders so we don’t get attacked. And should we suffer that unfortunate circumstance it’s okay provided they only take the bike and don’t hurt you? Even better, I was sleeping in a warm bed at the guesthouse while they stole my bike so I got nothing to moan about? You’ll excuse me for not being overjoyed with that.
  25. Got you. I usually just tape the box and if you're gonna be "handling" the bike yourself you don't even have to close it "all the time" but if it doesn't fit onto your bakie...... I don't like the idea of my bike in a bag being handled by airport baggage handling staff so I almost always go with the box. Only ever used the bike bag once and if you weren't so far I could've just borrowed you one. Good luck and enjoy your hols.
