  1. That would make sense as to hold that for a couple of seconds would be pretty impresive.
  2. 1500w is not all that great for a pro is it? Maybe that was at the end of a 200km stage race? The reason i say this is because i have hit 1400w during a max effort before and i am most certainly no pro, just a wannabe vet racer.
  3. Thanks Bruce. I find that i ride heavier gears when i am trying to get the watts up, so on my idt i set it at the most difficult level and then sit in my 17 or 19 at the back. but i figure if i am doing 300 watts, regardless of gears, speed, etc i am still achieving my watts.
  4. When i am on my IDT i find that when doing my L4's and L5's that i am sitting at a very low speed on my PT. Does speed and cadence have any effect of the quality of the workout? Or is it perhaps better to crank up the gears and the speed to reach your zones?
  5. I have never been a great climber and probably never will.....but i don't think that the bike weight has any effect on my ability to climb a hill faster. My training bike weighs in at 8.6kg and my racing bike at 7kg and there is a particular hill that i ride and i can see very little difference the lighter bike made. I have increased my power/weight ration 4watt/kg and i still can't climb, i would have to go with that muscle fibre theory then as i can't see the benefits of spending 20k on wheels to make you a better rider.......although i is nice to have cool wheels.
  6. Ok, so i have to get my head around the indoor training. My coach says i need to do an indoor trainer FTP test as pointed out above and work on those zones. Thanks
  7. I know that if you have carbon h/bars, you can't clamp anything on to it. Printed on my bars is "do not clamp" Would hate for you to be doing 50km/h chasing 101% and your bars to break in that position.
  8. How do those with power meters manage to train in the winter? I am only able to cycle in the mornings, i am up at 4.30am and ride at 5.00am. My problem is that i can't see my power meter so have no idea what power i am putting out or the duration. I have purchased a "fluid trainer" but i just can't manage to do my sessions on there. I have tried the RPE but i am always way off the mark? I am receiving my daily training programs but for the past 2 months have really battled to do my L4, L5, etc I am now just riding with the group like i use to and i have gone backwards at a serious rate of knotts. Can anyone give me some suggestions how i can overcome this problem?
  9. Have use Kulula plenty of times flying down to Plett (George) and i have never had a problem, the bike does not normally go on the conveyor when i have flown, they take it off to the side and bring it out for you at your destination.
  10. Bruce There can't be many cyclist out there that would find pleasure in riding with 101% and marco Rather you than me, so glad i don't live in Jhb
  11. Sounds quite bad, sorry to hear that happened in his shop. Don't know the details but having my own business, can't see myslef getting into "fights" with customers. Needless to say, give them a try, make up your own mind on what you think of them.
  12. I dont' live in Jhb, so can't really comment on all the bike shops but what i will say is that Marco at Cycle Tech impressed me. I damaged my Zipp 404 (which i did not buy from him) and made a call to his cell phone, Marco does not know me from a bar of soap but yet he spent 10 minutes just chatting to me like he i was his best friend, never mind the fact that he was out doing a training ride. What happened at his shop??
  13. Have been riding in Plett for the past 6 years, i have not found it dangerous at all and once you do the passes there is hardly a car in sight. Phone through to the Bike Shop, have a chat to Kevin, sometimes the group rides towards Knysna and picks up a group of cyclists, they then head on back to Plett and to do the 2 passes to get some extra mileage. There are hundreds of cyclist in Plett and Knysna over the festive season, should not be a problem hooking up with a group. There are excellent m/bike trails and Kevin on Sundays does a m/bike ride.
  14. I have also had a bad exprience recently with "support" cars. I was racing in the recent Vashumi 2 provinces race. THe vets and ladies were grouped together and what i can remember there were at least 4 cars following us, with a lead vehicle. With 20km's into the race, there was an attack off the front and i stood up to cover the move....at that point my handlebar decided to snap in half and i went down, not taking anyone else with me. I fell on the right handside of the road and the 1st following car had to swerve off the road to miss me. These 4 cars then decided not to stop and left me lying there with 4 broken ribs, 16 stiches to various parts of my body and serious tar burns. Only a policeman came to my aid and 35minutes later the ambulance. I have tried in vain to find out who were in those cars as i would like to give them a piece of my mind. They did not even stop to see if i was ok, they just swerved around me and continued off into the distance.
  15. They ladies should put there personal issues asside and go out there to race and enjoy themselves. In the VA group what i can pick up there is no love lost between certain teams but that does not stop 101%, marco, lappies bros, mclean, (when he races VA), etc racing. There is no way in hell 101% is going to let a break go up the road if it is not in his best interest. The ladies should listen to what 101% has to say, he definately lives by what he says.
