I have exactly the same issue. Replaced cassette and chain last week and now the grinding noise. I remember i had it before when doing this but can't remember if i changed something or just waited it out. I am going to wait it out now and hopefully it goes away.

Purely on looks (and i am not talking about the poodle) i would go for the Kross. But go ride both bikes and then make your decision.

If only you asked a week ago. My parents drove up with an empty trailer.

Go ride both bikes at the trails you intend to ride at and make your own decision. Me being a giant man and i have thrown my anthem down all the trails i can find if i were in your shoes i would probably go for the spez. But i would ride both on the same trail one of after the other and i am sure it would be obvious which one is your choice.

I did my first race this past weekend (50 miler) since W2W in 2016. I am also probably only doing one other event this year (K2C). 2/3/4/5 years back i did every event i could get to but now i have a yearly permit at 2 different places and go ride there and then the odd weekend at another place where i will pay my daily fee. This works out way better for me. If you look at the STB 50km entry fee, thats R300 for 50km which is half of most places yearly permits. It just does not make sense to me to do alot more events.

I had the feeling the turnout for the 50 was bad. 2 years ago there were 4 shuttle buses if i remember correctly, this year there were only 3 and only half the people pitched up for the shuttles. they made one full half the bikes on the other and the third never even left Malmesbury. For my race, never again at this weight class. This was the worst ride of my life, was okay until the 2nd water point and then there was nothing left in the tank. So the training never happened. Gonna still give it a go and see if i can carry my 140kilo ass over the 80 odd km.

Depends on what you want to do? Race, survive, or just enjoy it without dying. I have done 5 of these and my lightest weight was 120 kilos without kit. My training normally is 2 mid week spin session in the gym and enjoying myself on trails on a saturday and maybe a sunday. The month before i usually try to do a longer sessions on weekends just so that the legs are getting used to be longer on the bike. I hardly ever train for longer than 3hrs. I am no racing snake (if the weight wasn't a hint) but yes train a few longer hills especially toward the end of a ride. Only the first hill is steap-ish and if you don't start in A you will walk it anyways.

For the 20k price bracket i will definitely look at secondhand. you can get very nice specced bikes in that price range.

I also use store to door all the time but if this is decent why not.

Yes there are rocky roads and yes it has been done before on cyclocross bikes.

Packed the bakkie on friday evening and saturday morning getting ready to leave bakkie wont start. (left a door open) quickly get my car tool kit and guess what jumper cables gone and cannot even remember who borrowed it. Wife needed the second car and i was stranded. Tried to get hold of the organizers to see if i can at least still be part of the sunday with me missing registration on saturday but to no avail. Decided screw it and didn't even bother driving through.

I see day one is 1200m of climbing...the last time i did this the first day was less than 900m of climbing...in for a long day in the saddle!

You can get someone's FNB account blocked if you have a police case number open. So i am waiting on the other person to open the case then i will use that case number to get his account blocked and only myself can have it unblocked or if police case is resolved...

WTF, i even searched for his cell number on the forum before i gave him the money...
