  1. Don't use resin in rain or mud as they will be gone very quickly. Resin bites better but they also fade more as they cant dissipate heat as well. SO if you are doing muddy wet downhills don't use resin...
  2. So it looks like everyone is as confused as me....
  3. So I was wondering who has one and what they think of them. Issues like battery life, can you actually sleep with it on? link to applications etc. Value for money? Any better than a Suunto Ambit? I am thinking of getting one.
  4. Also if you can get across to Alpine Heath - nice trails there
  5. One of the biggest regrets was selling my Santa Cruz Nomad. It had 180mm up front (Rock Shox Totem) and 167 mm at the back. I sold it for no reason other than blind stupidity and its still owned by a mate of mine whom i couldn't prize it away from with dynamite. I used to use it whenever i cold - like all of the posts said - it was the most fun most smile bike i had. It was really brilliant and it is sorely missed. I cannot describe to you the feeling of throwing the bike in versus picking your way through something. You just never worried and were confident it would catch you. I then rode in Whistler a number of years ago and I was using there gumball squishy tires at 2,4 inches, and then i understood why they could do the crazy sh*t they could. Don't try and pedal those tires though as the rolling resistance is horrendous. But the combination has made me a fan of high specced trail and enduro bikes, and i was eternally converted. You can never go wrong with 40mm more travel. even 60 to 80 mm more these days feel like 100mm in terms of the stability of the fork under pedaling. So at 140mm these days you are riding what was the best in terms of platform stabilization technology even 3 years ago - which means that you might as well get the extra travel and work a bit harder.
  6. It sounds like you are having a bike shop problem rather than a wheel problem. If you are Fourways area (where i am and a lot of us are) then consider using Josh at Cyclists Workshop - he is now up the road near Northgate in the Nursery (he likes those sort of environments for some reason). He has built a lot of my wheels for me and my mates, and i am not a small guy, so we have had some detailed discussion around whether I am going to have a life changing experience with my plans and designs. So far so good. Wyatt Earp (the hubs own Sheriff) also a good guy.on this sort fo topic. And its BS that ZTR are the issue.
  7. Get a very big I[hone battery if you start to run all this is just my 2 cents worth. WRT the software i believe the Adidas Micoach software was used by the German soccer team, so you may want to look at that as it clearly works :-). There were ads on the TV when i was in the UK last week showing this off and how it worked, and it was all on Iphone. It looked really funky. Wearables are all the rage in the UK - hundreds of different types at Dixon's on the way home when i left.
  8. Remember them all including Naturena as the downhill skateboard run in the South. We used to do 60 kmh down there is shorts, T shirts and bare feet. Try that now at 100 kmh on a bike - wouldn't feel safe :-) Snowy Smith skate boards, Alpha (Speed Freaks) and other local skateboard manufacturers. Wonder what happened to them.
  9. Use a site called www.myus.com
  10. The Froome interview made me worried. This makes me downright suspicious. TUE's and all the rest are just so complex. So we all sit here hoping that Impey has an explanation, because he's our boykie. I don't know what to think any more. All these guys skate on the fine line of what is allowed just to ride those distances and those hills. When last did you do a stage with 5300m of climbing in it. And then again the next day. And again the next Its just insane to see all this still going on after so many years of professing to be absolutely clean.

  12. My Froome Dawg loyalty is somewhat shaken by this interview. Probably a good thing though. I needed to catch a wake up as I was getting all excited about him like i was about LA. Compare this to the same stage in LA's career and all the naivety that followed him around because the dream had to be real and the fairy tale true. I think there is a lot of smoke here: When that gets a bit of oxygen its going to turn in to flames. And all little boys who play with flames... Because that's what this interview makes him out to look like - a naive kid. That and his inability to grow a pair - he has his PR/wife handling him like a puppet. I think that the guy really needs to clear up who he is and what he stands for. His handlers are busy manipulating him and when (not if) there is a fall he will be personally liable, not them. Naivety doesn't hack it at this level. Naivety buys you manipulation and bad outcomes where the people riding on his coat tails giving him bad advice will fade in to the woodwork. Another sad day in cycling when you realize that there is still a huge amount of corruption in this level of sport and that it is still as dirty as it ever was.
  13. Hmm I was thinking this may be the case. I saw his Strava map and was wondering if the was another way in, legally of course (wouldn't want the trail nazis on me). Looks like the riffraff will just have to press their nose up against the glass and look at how the other half rides. Me I'm voting EFF cause Julius said I can have access to those trails when he gets all the white boys houses. Monaghan high on that list :-)....
  14. Anyone got any ideas of how to ride these trails?
  15. Run Racing Ralph front and Nobby Nic back, which was recommended to me. Then another clown told me i had it the wrong way around - menat to be Nobby up front. Anyway irrespective, i prefer the Snakeskins as they overcome any issues wrt sidewalls. Great tires, stick like Sh*t to a blanket. Not sure about the rolling resistance bit - maybe thats why i think i am so unfit. They do wear quickly, but the price is far outweighed by the grip they give. It costs more to fix the roasties from a wash out than to stay on the bike.
  16. Arch EX is the better option - it also depends how you ride and what you ride. I am 110 kgs and ride XC with some airtime on jumps and I bent the rear Crest in 6 months so i changed to Arch EX rims and am happy. On the build, depending on how strong you want it, go straight gauge on the inside of the back i.e. drive side. It adds a bit of weight but i never worry about landing the bike. And get a good wheel builder.
  17. I will have an appointment with Mr Specialized soon (silent zed normally pronounced st)

  19. This was the case i mentioned.
  20. now with picture
  21. Saw this today. Not sure if its ally but it sure was bling....
  22. Some tips i have noticed make a difference. Baggage handlers aren't paid or given bonuses on how delicate they are with your bag. Think it through a bit. They really don't care about your carbon poride and joy. 1.) Invest in a good rigid bike bag with wheels so it can be easily wheeled rather than needing to be carried. 2.) IMHO: The more difficult the bag is to handle and the more outsize it is, the more likely it is to get special handling. So by trying to get your bike in your checked luggage you could cause the issue. Ship in a huge heavy bag and make sure it cant be checked in. Your bike will get there every time. 3.) If they are nicely wrapped up and they are all properly packaged and snug in their bag then its really easy. Some dis assembly required as well. Take all the things they tell you off. Pedals, derailleurs etc. I have 2 x rigid bags and have moved many bikes up and down from Cape Town for many years and have never had a problem - the only one i had was due to my own stupidity in the way i packaged the bike that lead to a derailleur being broken. I do pack a lot of extras in the bag when i take a bag - like pumps, helmet. camelbak etc. And i carry the bikes through to the special check in even if they offer to take it.
  23. I think you are now reaping the whirlwind you sowed for yourself. Observation: Try not to do things cheaply - you get what you pay for. Expensive lesson - you can take the lawyers fees out of your outbonus if you receive it....
  24. Couldn't agree more with this. There are no free lunches in this world. I see people, clever people that I know, being lured by outbonuses and by schemes like vehicle finance at below prime rates etc. Get it in your head now - "there are no free lunches". They hide the costs elsewhere. You get what you pay for. Go back to Outsurance and let them fight your fight. Is your outbonus worth more than the loss you are suffering now? You may find they repudiate based on clauses where you had to notify them of losses. This was what happened ina recent case that was on CB. Careful out there - read your policies...
  25. Triumph Explorer 1200. After many sports bikes, track days and 280kmh trips out to the dam, i decided to get rid of all the gear and get away from motorcycles. But that didn't last I bought this May a year ago. Much better idea....
