  1. I battled though a learning curve myself and found the following working well. Open the resevoir on the handle. You might have to loosen the brake handle and rotate for the resevoior to be level with the floor. You must have a short length of tube fitting tight over the bleeding nipple on the caliper. Fill the syringe and make sure there is no air. Loosen the nipple and inject the fluid into the break system from the bottom. Be patient and do it slowly to allow the bubbles to stay close to the top of your fresh fluid. Don't over fill the resevoir. Pinch close the nipple when the disired level is reached, re-fit the diaphragm in the resevoir and close-up. Re-allign brake handles, cleanup and enjoy.
  2. Never go without that lid I tell you. I once dropped in the mountains of Napier and I will never forget how the helmet sounded like an eggshell breaking. My 1st thought was that I've got a head like an egg.

    Breedts Nek

I did it once a loong time ago. Being a coastal boykie, the high summer temp was harsh and the energade too little. Otherwise, a nice ride.
  4. Thats easy! The pic was taken after the "De Grendel Ride"! I had a chanse to clean up and the bike not. BTW, that ride didn't get my official time, but the polar showed 2 hours exactly. Not bad for a first ride since 2006. Soooooo, I might look like the ouma, but I am not the slowest out there
  5. Bionic man, please can you post some pics of your machine. Not Bionic's but mine. Nice plush ride without the energy sapping duel sus.
  6. are you nuts ?? what do you mean a morning ?? I did the 10km ride and it took me all morning....that black long route would have taken me the whole blinken weekend !! Maybe I lost track of time and maybe I was flying on the rest of the track, but I only rode about 2,5hours. And man it was cold with the snow on the mountains. Riding in the shade was NOT the prefered place to be.
  7. This is one of the gems of the Western Cape. I did a ride on my own there just after the first snow of the season and I didn't take any pics, but it was really cool. The cows use the direction markers as scratching poles and I ended up doing the black route while it was soaked. That was tuff but IU can not imagine a better way to spend a Saturday morning!
  8. I weigh in at over 85Kgs and I have had this problem from waaaayy back when Istarted cycling. What makes it more difficult, I absolutely hate noises eminating from my bike. Most of these come from my seat and post. The answer earlier years was to clean and lightly grease - Very lightly - and then clamp it down hard. I mean real hard! See, my seat and post is removed everytime I load the bike on the rack. That worked on the old Gaint840 as the post had a nice wall thickness. With the new Scott, everything is OE and it doensn't matter how thight I clamp it, It slips!!! My 2 cents worth is that the gritty compound makes sence. The lockring is bound to create another friction point on top of the down tube and also likely to squeek with every pedal stroke. I will go for the gritty compound. Sounds like the post can still be removed with the quick release and I doubt it will squeek like the locking bolt thingy.

    Tubeless

That's like half the fun at twice the price You can't call yourself a MTBr if you haven't tasted tyre sealant (or got it in your eyes) from a bad tubeless conversion attempt! I am a MTBr. Tasted it and I trew the t-shirt away. Now the wife is looking at me in a funny way when I work on the bike.

I need help from the Know-How-2-Hubbers. I tried in vain last night to swop my front and rear tyres around. The tyres are not completely tubeless, but rather one of these Jo's conversion kits. When I got the stuff in the beginning, installing and getting air into the tyres was a dandy. Last night though, I just frustrated myself. I tried to work without throwing the old Jo's liquid away, keeping the tyre in an upright position and so on, but I can't seem to get the tyres to seat. I even went to the local garage for more oomph on the compressed air side of things! What do you experienced okes suggest?
  11. go one step further. /why did somebody decide to film this specific area? I mean there are posibilities here. Before the filming started did the Cyclist/cop make a noise/scene for someone to start filming? Somebody is already at desk duty and I think that is already pretty severe. Is the cyclist hurt? Is he on desk duty (or something similar) too? I mean, we have got to be fair here. What is good for the goose is good for the ganda and unless you have that FACTS, reseve your opinion.
  12. Amen Brothers and sisters! Amen!

  14. so people, after reading this thread I think I am safe to say that the tour still makes for interesting viewing, despite all the doping crap!!??
  15. ANd a bicycle card to rattle against the spokes.
  16. will these rides only be on Sundays
  17. I dont often post, but I have a little bad experience with the disks. See I weight nearly 90 Kg and it just seems that these thing have a hard time stopping me. I had absolutely super stoppers with the "V" brakes. It is sadly one of those un-reversable upgrades I made. Now I am just living with it and hating it at the same time.
  18. I bought a New Scott Aspen and imediately converted with Joe's. No hassle to install with the standard Scot tyres (cant remember the name but it has thread very similar to the Hutchinson) as long as you have compressor around. Flats!! Thats history. I just had to top up the pressure a couple of times after I removed some seriaz dubbeltjies. I am a bulky 90 KGs and run on 2,5 Bar.
