  1. This was the best read I had in ages. The accideeent had me in tears. Bring it on hubbers.
  2. The rhodes mtb challenge. Start in Rhodes, cross the highest road in South Afrika on Naude's Neck, travel along the border with Lesotho towards Tiffendale and return to Rhodes. 85 Kms of mtb bliss!
  4. I tell you what. HTese might be a little heavy, but the roll easy! I had these before and I got good miles from them and it was also the only wheel that coped with the sandy conditions in the Namaqualand. I just saw them in Cyclelab on Saturday and they were retailing around the R700 mark. Despite the wheels qualities, I refuse to be ripped off like that.
  5. BTW did 89.9Km/h down Vissershok with the South Easter pumping. Raise your arse out of the saddle and keep the elbows and knees flexible and enjoy BIGTIME!!

I work in the port and I too cycled to work yesterday..... Despite the wind and I enjoyed the ride. I ride a mtb and the tracks don't scare me much, but the wind does make life a little complicated. Especially if gusts of 56 knots are measured, but there were occasions earlier in the season where the wind was much stronger. Some guys made comments to the danger the trucks pose. I would like to differ. Generally the truck drivers are very well behaved. What is more is that if the wind pumps like it did yesterday, the trucks provide short but welcome wind deflection and they normally give me a wide pass. It is the impatient car and bakkie drivers taking an illegal shortcut through the port who poses the biggest problem. These okes don't care for road markings and signs. They disregard other road users completely and they are generally just a menace. These are the guys who won't give you an inch when they pass you. A big hurrah for those who assisted you. I just wish there are more of those around.
  8. It just boggles the mind when humans choose which laws they wish to obey and the rest of the world must just adapt and or get a finger. I agree with the plea CS makes. Please fellow cyclists, obey all laws?

    Bike test

People on the Hub. I heard somewhere that there is going to be bike testing day arranged for the Western Cape. Anyone know something about this?
  11. A distinguished young woman on a flight from Ireland asked the Priest beside her, 'Father, may I ask a favor?' 'Of course child. What may I do for you?' 'Well, I bought an expensive woman's electronic hair dryer for my Mother's birthday that is unopened and well over the Customs limits, and I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there any way you could carry it through customs for me? Under your robes perhaps?' 'I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you: I will not lie.' 'With your honest face, Father, no one will question you.' When they got to Customs, she let the priest go ahead of her. The official asked, 'Father, do you have anything to declare?' 'From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare.' The official thought this answer strange, so asked, 'And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?' 'I have a marvelous instrument designed to be used on a woman, but which is, to date, unused.' Roaring with laughter, the official said, 'Go ahead, Father. Next !'
  12. There is no good time for news such as this. Forgive me for wanting the best resolutions for you and the others with you recieving that dreadful letter. I can't offer anyhting other than my sympathies and a prayer for a new job soon.
  13. Moet dan nie. Meeste dinge verdwyn as jy dit lank genoeg net ignoreer Ditto. Beskou jouself as ge-ignoreer. Mooi loop
Groete
  15. Its not too difficult to assume. The rear is to transfer legower into the soil and spread your weight without flexing too much creating an unsure handling problem. The Front front only need to find the way and make sure the breaking doesnt make you a gymnastic contortionist. The Front = running true The rear = Grip and posture.
  16. That true, but remember lance is a little lopsided on the saddle.
LBSes started with the price fixing. What did they expect to happen? You want me to part with it, the onus is on you to make it worth my while. 18. The battery effect is the smallest of your problems. Your problem arises from the natural property of each metal to have a natural electric potential. Bring two different metals together and the one with the lower voltage become sacrificial to the other! Your problem is not knowing which is the negative metal. And just to scare you a little more. Given the right conditions, your Titanium could be the one failing without you knowing it! However, there is the little matter of conductivity and the potential difference and several other metallic properties to consider and therefore it is VERY unlikely for your bike's metal components to fail due to this phenomenon while you are using it. This technology is used as corrosion protector on shipping vessels. They place zinc under the waterline as the sacrificial metal to the rest of the vessel. The bigger the vessel the more surface area the zinc requires. These are replaced each time the vessel come into dry dock! Another piece of useless info. 306 and 316 are just two of several stainless steel variants. Carbon is the biggest corrosion culprit in the steel and the partial or complete removal of carbon from steel makes it stainless in the various degrees. Add to the steel a little tin and chrome and the product improves it?s anti-corrosion properties. 316 is one of the better S/S to use, but it is also of the hardest and most expensive. You want a shining bike? Spec the 316 S/S bolts, but if you?re a weight watcher get the Titanium bolts. For the rest?..spit and polish is my two cents worth.
