  1. Refering to the previous cost of a Stan's strip. A tube is cheap at arround R30 and it does the same job. Its even cheaper than just getting the valve as the one oke was saying. Either way, 100s of these Ghetto conversions are doing the rounds and they last. Mine has never failed and I make the scale suffer at 95Kgs with all my gear going to work and back. (next to the road like a true MTBer.
  2. 24" will also do fine. The rim tube function is only to seal any holes in the rim and one take a smaller size to make it fit nice and snug.

  4. Where is the finishing line?? LOL
  5. Isuspected the ratio is something to take note of and hense the question. Thanks for all helping to make that very clear. I heard that XT is good and if I look atr how many bike are out there with XT and appearant happy cyclist, then something is definately off on mine. That is what I am trying to establish hoping soemone out there had a similar experience. I guess I'll have to get a second opinion!
  6. Where are you located?
  7. If I get the downshift to work with every click, the upshift sometimes require two clicks before it shifts. If I get the upshift to work, the downshift sometimes want two clicks before actuation. Its a pain. I checked the cables - clean and smooth without bends or nicks. I asked for the Hangdown allignment to be checked - OK BUT This weekend I stripped and uppon reassembly, I checked movement without the chain. It is clear that the responce up/down is not linear. THis explain the behaviour. What I don't understand is that I bought the bike new and it did this from the beginning if at a lesser extent, but it slowly became worse. I now hate it!
  8. Maybe I am the exception but I am sick and tired of a poor operating XT rear deraileur. I just can not get it to shift up AND down every time. So I am considering mu options. Money is tight and a complete new setup is not possible. BUT I have had my eye on the SRAM X9s for a while now. The big question is if the SRAM will work with the Deore rapid fires? Anybody??
  9. I knew, but I still looked. LOL
  10. a similar event happened a couple of years ago on the road between Pofadder and Kakemas. The culvert are small for the general expected rainfall in the area and flashfloods then destroy the road like that. In this instance a whole taxi carrying migrant labourers to Sterkspruit at night went into the gap while the water was still running. Everyone perished. So it happens and the photos are likely to be the real mckoy. I initially thought it was the same place again.
  11. Why is this under Photos? Too fast on the click today? No prob hey.
  12. I remember the days when there were 3 radio stations making a mood on Suikerbossie alone. That was missing this year. The rest of the course was par for the course. I couldnt help but smile whan a lone lady somewhere on Chapmans Peak enthusiatically shouted for us to stratch that damn chain. it too short! Priceless!!

  15. There a thin layer of wax from the manufacturing process preventing the solution to do its thing. The sanding is a important part of getting it right. I have a small BIG lighter in my kit. I use this to heat the tube arround the hole before I apply the glue. Working fast. I apply the glue, turn the lighter to the glue and the patch a couple of times to make sure the rubber and the glue and the patch is nice and warm. Rubb with my finger over the glue to make sure its nice and tacky and only then do I apply the patch and maintain a little pressure. You can fit the tube immediately. It hasn't failed me yet!
  16. A happyChristmas to all and sweet, fast spining wheels for the new year!

  18. "Those found to be guilty of negligence...disciplinary action will taken against them which may lead to dismissal' date='" said Mahlangu. [/quote']What they say and what they do is not the same thing. The doctor will have some kind of medical excuse and since the panel doing his evaluation is most likely not able to judge the excuse properly.
  19. My 1st Burger and i enjoyed the ride. It was a very nice fast loop.
