  1. Good - you'll need a proper warm-up for Jo NOT to beat you Oh cr@p, not again .
  2. For those who haven't been for a while, crit starts at 5:45 at the moment.
  3. use newspaper...Pretoria News / Sunday Times whatever... The pros do it! and it's cheap Ok so you take newspaper and wrap it around your arms and legs or what? I must say Jason is the master of cold weather riding .
  4. I didn't have anything and I have been fine. But then I didn't do the race either.
  5. Yes jagwil, amazing, we nearly braked a record ! (Just to prove I do have a sense of humour).
  6. Guys I am afraid I would have to distance myself from this one. Stooping to the level of these guys is not going to solve any problems and I would hate to be riding up Ou Kaapse Weg next weekend when one of these guys comes up there looking for trouble. I ride regularly with jmaccelari and I think we share the same sentiments. We need to get our own house in order before we have a leg to stand on. We train as a group and make a big effort to not inconvenience other road users. This does not mean always stopping at robots or riding in single file but being aware and slowing down and checking robots before proceeding and being aware if a vehicle approaches from behind and the group must then move over. Where the road is narrow we will always ask the group to ride single file. After our group rides I usually ride home alone through heavy traffic and I think I have a good relationship with the other vehicles, even the taxis. I make an effort to always make hand signals and to wave a thank you when someone lets me into a gap. Apart from one isolated incident with a drunk taxi driver I have had no problems in the few years I have been riding these routes.

Ride back was ok, up William Nicol was very slow but I think I did a total of about 180km for the day including 116km of racing. Good training and thanks to you and Jules for joining me.

    Lost Garmin

This is a very long shot but I rode home from the Ride for Sight today and whilst riding through Edenvale on North Reef Road the clip on the mount on my Garmin 705 broke and the unit fell off. Unfortunately I only noticed a bit later and even though we went back we couldn't find it. Two guys at the side of the road said they saw a car stop and pick something up just after we rode past. If anyone knows anyone that just might have picked it up please pm me for contact details. Like I said I know it's a long shot but worth a try.
  10. I don't believe it! Six pages of intelligent and interesting debate with no hijacks and not one personal attack (except for HR and me having a dig at Swissvan and his swimming habits). I think there is merit in only logging on to the Hub on the weekend.
  11. You seem to have checked most things. Did you check the seat rails as well as the seat post? What about the headset, could be dirt in there?
  12. Firstly my condolences to Colin's family and friends, a real tragedy. I might be wrong but it seems the Western Cape is having more than it's fair share of fatalities recently. Has anyone looked into possible reasons for this, for instance are there common factors between accidents. Maybe someone who has info on the recent accidents could summarise the type of incident with time of day, type of road and how the accidents happened. From what I remember all the recent ones appear to have been hit by cars from behind whilst riding in the shoulder or emergency lane? Is alcohol involved at all? Don't know if it will do any good but might help people to avoid similar situations in the future.
  13. At least being winter there I am sure SwissVan doesn't have a major cycling tan to contend with.
  14. Good debate guys, more like what the Hub should be all about . I am just finishing Kimmage's book so haven't really formed an opinion on the man yet. I think that it boils down to what you personally want to believe about the extent of doping in the sport. If, like me, you believe it to be pretty prevalent at the pro level then I think you would tend to take Kimmage's side. I find myself sympathising with the man in his struggle to resist doping but eventually being drawn into it due to pure pressure to produce results. Has Kimmage written any more books apart from "Rough Ride"?
  15. Bad news! Hope he recovers ok. I used to ride down Sandton Drive but later when there was more traffic. It just scared me so much that I now ride through Hyde Park and come out higher up on William Nicol. I nearly got taken out by a Metro 4x4 at the robot cnr of Grayston.
  16. SeanMort, I am not a doctor but I would think that a blow to the head which causes bleeding from either the nose or ears should be URGENTLY checked out. Don't take chances go see someone just in case.
  17. epoh, you don't need them, you don't train .
  18. I must admit, you Capies take brilliant photographs
  19. I have broken three, all on the 305, I now have the 705 and it is getting loose again. Definately a design fault.
  20. This is one race I won't miss, even if I have to cut out others to be there.

    it sucks

That is the problem, look what happened with Lance, he came back stronger than ever. Mark, really sorry to hear about this, good luck with the treatment and let us know how it goes. Just please go easy on us when you get back.
  22. Please guys we appreciate the support but see my post on the "Colonel vs TCS and BigH" thread. Lets leave this alone and get on with our lives.
  23. You accusing me of doping Colonel? What do you want us to say? I was dissapointed to see the news yesterday but I am pretty sure that there others doping in all categories of the sport and at all levels. Just because one member of a team or club is tested positive does not mean the entire club is doping. If a member of Cyclelab club was caught using some substance would it imply that all 2000 odd members were using substances. I can only speak for myself and those close to me that I am personally friends with and I can assure you that none of those people are doing anything illegal.
