  1. Unless you have the skills to ride all-mountain properly, you?ll just be a passenger on your bike. Which is why you need to learn the right techniques on a hardtail first? http://www.bikeradar.com/fitness/article/technique-hammering-hardtails-i-16845

  8. I doubt there are many mountain bikers that could really 'feel' the difference in ride between a carbon and alu frame, me included ...... Chances are you won't go any faster unless you are at a level where you need a few extra seconds to win. Having said that if you want it and can afford it then why the hell not! Can only comment that my laaitie (ok so he weighs around 50kg's) has ridden 1 for 2 years, fallen plenty and it still looks great with no cracks but then again it is a Specialized
  9. She's a lot better looking than those Olsen twins any day .......
  10. Not that the hubbers need much to stir them these days, it is true that it seems that facts only get in the way of a good spat ......... both sides of the story are clearly not what most want to see
  11. If you're a girl then compact ....... OK I got my stuff (exits second door left as is necessary)
  12. Just spoke to my LBS and they do have the 'balletjies' available but I need to tell them what size (he says bring one of the old ones but the wheel is assembled and at home.....). From the technical docs it says that they are 1/4", according to the inch to mm converters that is 6.350012. I'm sure my vernier (or that of the shop) doesn't measure that accurately but I guess just over 6mm is correct ......
  13. Thanks Maximo - the pictures sure helped! Done and sounding much better The drive side 'balls' are a bit pitted so will have to get some new ones but had to put it together so I can ride tomorrow. Wasn't difficult at all ........
  14. maybe when you went past the circus you ran over a clown. Musta been you I ran over ............
  15. Hey BarryKM as far as I know the 540's don't need that tool, they have a metal fitting there that you can remove with a spanner. Maybe that's why .....
  16. Anyone serviced one of these? The rear on my training bike is making funny noises so I'm going to have a go at servicing it tonight. I guess that removing the cluster, the freewheel and then dissasembling the axle is how simple it should be? Any tips or tricks?
  17. My experience ...... most LBS are to lazy to service pedals and will try to sell you a new set.
  18. Shimano has a special tool to dissasemble these. Dunno what it's called but I'll take a pic tonight. Pretty easy to do, just have to be extremely careful as they have some very very small ball bearings inside ..........
  19. Hey Am, nice pics mon ami! One of these days I can race again ........
