SB - I trained/raced with a pair of those cheap takkie types (Scott) for a long time and they were fine. Bought a good pair when I could afford them.

Got me a pair of these, super comfy but damn expensive ......... So use a pair of cheap Merida MTB shoes (they are related to Specialized everone keeps telling us!) for training ......

I don't think that if a hub has been manufactured to take loose ball bearings that it is possible to replace them with a 'cartridge bearing' ......... I may be wrong though!

So I have ridden them on a pretty 'un technical' ride and also rode through the Rietvlei zoo farm course today and they are OK! They seem to have good enough traction and the course has a bit of everything!
