  1. - would be cool but I guess the shifting up and down would be problematic .....
  2. Thought that would get you guys going Flip the number of times I wanted to whip that Trek with the triple right out under BBB's backside at Suikerbosrand ............. I got veins popping everywhere and he's chatting away likes it's nothing. Enough to make a grown man cry I tell you! Perhaps I should look at the compact if Ewep lets me ..............

  4. Compact is for girls ...........
  5. Just wondering but has there actually been an official protest handed in ..... use it don't use it
  6. Or the one with the bike in the tent and girl outside. Or that one of Holy Roller ......
  7. Slow afternoon at the office mate
  8. But seemingly Spidy people 'become different' immediatley they get on an MTB (even the so called hardcore arrogant miserable roadies) ..................... they get friendly, they greet all and sundry, stop to help each other etc. etc. Amazing thing this switch from road to mountain can do for a person..........
  9. Now I may not be a 'real' roadie but I would consider some of these comments a gross generalisation! I ride road bike every morning in the Jo'burg south area (Lido roads) and I reckon the cyclists I see with no lights at all are in the minority. Think about it, it is a lot easier to run without a light than to be bombing along at 30k's an hour on a road where as previously stated here there are potholes that can swallow a man and his bike with no trace left behind ....... I have also had my fair share of run ins with runners, commuters (on foot and bike) that are barely visible but hey I get over it and go on with my life but that's just me. So those cyclists that do ride without lights are just stupid but it aint the norm. This is as always my personal opinion so use it don't use it up to you!
  10. Mountain_Lion - As I said I did have a few things in my favour, one of those ebeing that it was a tyre that already been used and abused with tubeless so it probably helped ....... Was fun doing it but I guess the real test will be of how it stands up to normal riding and stuff. Will it outlast a Joe's strip? I doubt it but at that price it's OK ........
  11. Gave the wheel a good wash, lent MBB's (Mrs BigBen) fancy 90deg sewing scissors and cut the excess tube off. Doesn't look to shabby hey Nige? Got up this morning and the wheel is still 'hard'! Seems not to have lost any air but keep in mind as previously stated it was a pre used tubeless conversion tyre! Cause it's my training wheels I will only ride them again from next week Tuesday but will keep y'all informed ..............
  12. Sprayed liberal soapy water all round the tyre between the excess tube and the bead. Trusty bomb pump and 16g bomb, phhhhhfffffftttttt bwa and it was inflated! No leaking anywhere, it was a pre tubelessed tyre so I guess it was already 'sealed' by the old Joe's, but no issues at the bead etc. OK so no spun the wheel and did the horizontal shake it all about while it was spinning thing to ensure that the sealant got everywhere! OK so now I sat back and admired this marvel I had created .............. not quite finished yet though ................
  13. So to the process ............... Ok so that's a really bad picture but essentially I stretched the tjoop onto the rim and inflated slightly. Then ensured that it was nicely centered on the rim. luckily there is a 'rib' running all the way around the middle! Took a pair of scissor's and cut all the way round on the 'rib' in the centre so that essentially the tube was split and 'hung' over the sides of the rim. Mounted the tyre carefully so as not to damage the strip (pretty easy with this pre used foldable Crossmark!). Leaving a small section open to put the sealant in. I tried the OKO stuff but it is frikkin thick so I was not convinced it would seal everywhere, at least in this initial test so I added 60ml of Joe's as well.
  14. Ok so lets start with why! After a time (can be quite long!) I find that the Joe's strip's valve starts to 'seperate'. Then normally you have to buy a set of strips (you can't buy just one!) at a cost of about 160ZA Rondt and do a quick 're-tubeless'. No big deal but at 160ZA's bit 'dear' as some would call it! Sorry about the quality of the pics they are cell phone ones but you will get the 'picture'! So I decided to try out the 20" BMX tube alternative at about 20ZA Rondt and you can buy them 1 at a time !!! So here's what I did (comments below each pic!):- Goodies - old cheap normal rim ZAC19 (still has the Joe's packing tape stuff over the spoke holes but I heard that plain old insulation tape would also work!). Maxxis Crossmark non-tubeless tyre (used up to now on a Joe's conversion so I guess all the holes in the tyre are already sealed). 20" BMX tube with the 'thin' type valve. Some OKO tubeless sealant (got my reservations here!). Squirt bottle with very sunlight soapy water. 2 bombs and an adapter.
  15. SlowBee - see here for photos tomorrow, should be a lot clearer !
  16. Hey so I did the 'infamous' 20" BMX tube (20ZAR's) tubeless conversion on a wheel tonight! It was in fact pretty easy, photos tomorrow. I tried the OKO stuff but it's a bit thick for the first time so I added some Joe's. I can see though that unlike with a Joe's or Stan's strip the tube I got does not have a removable core so it will be a bit more 'complicated' to add some additional sealant as time goes. I used to just let the air out, remove the core, use the Joe's little bottle to refill, core back in and inflate with floor pump. I used a bomb for the initial inflation ...... I did it cause my 'oldish' (I don't know how long!) Joe's rim strip 'failed' at the valve and it's on my training wheels. May have been easier cause the tyre (non-tubeless) was already 'joe sealed' as it was used and the correct 'shape'?
  17. So for me .................. IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE !!!!!!!! Rode with the short stem tonight, definitely easier to 'man-hoover' the bike around in the tight technical sections and also a bit easier to take the 'better' lines on the tricky rocky downs. No I don't know why but it's one of the few changes I have made to my bike that I could feel had a noticeable effect. Now this could be just a perception but it's fine for me, I'll keep it on!
  18. BB' date=' if anyone says anything medically inclinded, I phone the one who knows and then I can part with her knowledge![/quote'] OK vats clefererer
  19. Now if only it was 'just the bike' that was my weight problem ..........
