    2012 XT

Ridden XTR, XT, SRAM X0 and X9 at various times and quite frankly in terms of FD/RD shifting, all are comparable (inlcuding triggers and twistgrip on both). Generally I dont fork out the cash for clusters and chains as I tend to find that LX clusters work equally well as an XTR one but cost a fraction of the price. Brakes however are a more personal choice - I have a set of 3 year old formula R1's which are transferred between bikes whenever they are bought and sold! Best brakes by far on the market with excellent stopping power, modulation and pad wear.
  2. RIP Mark - Condolences to Family and Friends - he was one of the genuinely nice guys on the Hub...
  3. Read his book last year - a real inspiration of an ordinary guys fight against cancer. He did his first TDF ride I think about six or seven months after being told he was in remission!
  4. The powertap guys at Eurobike indicated that the Joule was going to retail in the states for $450 - $500 for just for the headunit. It does look great though and it is brilliant that you can see your IF when training! I dont know if I would upgrade though from my Garmin. The Garmin connect website is awesome to use.

  6. Surely the bigger joke is that you can buy a printer/ fax/ scanner from Incredible for R2,000 and then save up to R58,000 over your lease term (excluding consumables).......... The real joke is these "offers" are presented as "Investment Opportunities...." The reason why fatboyslim will be getting a new bike soon is because of all of the comm he gets for signing suckers up to deals like these!!!!!
  7. Thanks Guys - the drag and drop method works a treat.
  8. I have recently upgraded to a wireless powertap and linked it to an Edge 705 unit and it is working brilliantly. I am having problems though trying to get the data file into Training Peaks. I have downloaded the latest release, but it only caters for the 205 and 305 and even using these settings, the device is not recognised..... Can anyone help me in how to change the settings in TP or advise on how best to get the data into the program. TA!
  9. Eish - so you hung around and waited till the guys finished the second lap? ............
  10. Thanks for the ride guys - BMC Fan well done for organizing........Good fund and very very muddy!!!! Nice meeting you droo and Tarmac Pro!! One small ask - it got a bit late last night, could the next one start a little earlier, at say at 6-45???Mackem2009-06-05 00:22:28
  11. Why was that?
  12. This might be a good idea to get the legs turning again........I will see you guys there!
  13. That is one nice bike SB.....new or 2nd hand?
  14. With province champs around the corner, every club training ride lately seems to be a race !!!
  15. This applies especially to wearing parts like casettes and chains. At my pre-Epic service the LBS recommended that my cassette and chain be replaced. They advised to go with a new LX cassette. Quote - R2,800 for a new XTR cassette versus R400 for a LX cassette. I went for the LX and didnt notice the difference!!!! Mackem2009-04-09 05:22:43
  16. I was initially sceptical of our Club's move from Velotex to Panda, but after riding the epic I am convinced that they have the best local shammy available. I rode every day on R400 odd shorts and did not have any problems and found the shorts exceptionally comfortable. Big up to Panda!!!
  17. Thanks!!! Only realised after I got back from the Epic that I had a small hole in the top 3rd of the Camelback - I thought that I was leaking coz I didnt screw on the lid well enough...........
  18. What are the suggestions to fix a small hole in the Camelbak bladder? Just use to use a puncture repair kit or is there a repair kit available????

  21. i don't work for them anymore. So Holy - who you working for now??? my primary employer is a division of independent newspapers - the company that owns the star - called independent productions. i do a similar job for them except on a national basis. i source' date=' provide and consult on international news content for papers in the group around the country, including those two bigger papers down in the visdorpie. mini hijack: did you ever see that post about meeting gibbo's stepdad? [/quote'] Cool - thanks for the update.. mini hijack - Nope - have u got the thread?
  22. i don't work for them anymore. So Holy - who you working for now???
  23. What I see from this bulls**t not only on this thread but other such as price fixing etc, is that some guys think that it is immoral for bike manufacturers/ tour operators/ event management companies and bikeshops to make a PROFIT!!!! Any basic economics course will teach you the laws of demand and supply. If you have a product that people want and are that they are prepared to pay for, they will sell it.........Just because it is your hobby, dont be indignant if someone wants to make money out of it. JPW# - people who enter the Epic are not gullable, they are merely exercising their right to pay what they see fit for perceived value. If you feel so altruistic - how many days last month did you work for free???
