  1. Ok, so rather leave our place at 04:00, give or take an half to a hour for the drive and then from 05:00 to walk the two km's and be there with more than a hour to an hour and a half before the start?
  2. Only an hour? I would've thought along the lines as per Candz post.
  3. And if you want your family to wait along the route at one point and then meet you at the end again, where would that one point be?
  4. Any advice on how early to head for the OMTOM's start? I see the start time is 06:40. We stay in Mowbray 6 km's away. I have no idea of the road closures so I'm not sure how close to the start we can be dropped off, or would it be wiser to go to UCT (I have a parking ticket purchased there) and walk the 2km to the start? EDIT: I see it seems to be the better option to go to the UCT Parking early and then walk from there. And most importantly, what time should I leave to make it in time for the start, or what time do I want to be there to enter the starting pens? It sounds like novice questions, because it is...
  5. The Supernova Glide, or is there more than one "Supernova"? I'm going to test the Glide sometime, they feel very nice and are priced nicely. They are just kinda narrow, was my initial thoughts. It seems like it is going to be the Brooks Ghosts for me this year. Not impressed with the kms the Saucony Triumph ISO3 is heading for and I get a hot spot under my front foot with the longer kms, exactly there where the most wear is occurring from early days and not at the price they come at. So the next round will be Ghost Glycerin or Supernova Glides added to the Ghosts.
  6. Luckily I have been doing the right things and there is no need to drink the poison. Damm Bloem Sinus nonsense...
  7. Thanks guys. I've been running al through this 3 weeks, no issues with heartrate etc. I did feel a bit pap obviously, but it is only now that it feels like is going towards the chest as well. Making an appointment as soon as I press enter...
  8. With omtom two weeks away it seems I can't extend this any further. It seems antibiotics is unavoidable, this is infection stages. Any thoughts with two weeks out?
  9. With training idling whilst my wife is trying to sort out her ITB and me trying to get rid of this sinusitus/cold of the last 3 weeks, it's too soon...
  10. I can't be the only one that has to worry about this, suffer with me buggers...
  11. So a second opinion says my wife's Runners knee is more like ITB... Explains why she can't make 10 km's
  12. I'm sharing the illness feeling. Have been snotty with a sinus/cold the last week, my wife is out for a week and a half already unable to run with runners knee. Really great going in the peak C training month and 3 weeks before Omtom... Really gatvol and starting to stress now.
  13. Nevermind 2,000km for comrades training from Jan, let's do 3,000...

  16. BTW, there is just the one flavour farbar. Fastbar comes in two flavours.
  17. I was between this and hydrassit. Going to give both a try, thanks for the heads up.
  18. Does anybody perhaps have a gpx file of the uprun please?
  19. Read this on the dogreatthings website a while back as well. People often overlook the acidity of most drinks. By the time we have been out on the road for a few hours this starts to become unpalatable as we build up a total acidity. The use of alkaline or low-acidity drinks is far superior. This is a practice that dates all the way back to the 1920s when the great Arthur Newton used a mix of home-made lemonade, sugar, salt, and bicarb of soda in his “Corpse Reviver” drink. Today the World Health Organization (WHO) has a formula that assists with hydration and has a similar alkali level. Carrying two or three Hydrassist sachets make it easy to mix this drink with water in the empty small bottles they offer coke in on the tables. One sachet after four hours and then every 90 minutes thereafter seem to work quite well. Give this a try in the next weeks. Use Hydrassist as a means of ensuring you start the race fully hydrated, particularly if you flew in as there is always a risk of dehydrating while flying. One sachet on Friday after travel is a good start to ensuring you commence the race correctly hydrated. Using this easily obtainable and cheap oral hydration product will help to avoid the bloated feeling experienced when we have too much water in the stomach or we are tired of sweet-drinks. It is available over the counter at pharmacies.
  20. Myself and my wife had this exactly same discussion almost to the letter this weekend. We hade some time to pass on our lonely 42 long run.. As it stands now I recon this is how our running is also going to pan out, with omtom being the long one and nice other stuff all year round, trail etc... And we hav'nt even done our first Comrades yet...
  21. LOL, that is just to try and get to the back of the pack, that is the sad part!
  22. Nooooo, not in -10 Bloem type mornings. We started on the treadmill in the winter, not sure how much fun the return to the treadmill is going to be. Still the same time unfortunately though. However, the season has definately passed, the mornings is chilly here.
  23. Nice Ferret, you must be stoked to be up and running. Heat is not going to be a worry for you guys it seems... Two of my colleagues going up for qualifying.
  24. The only, promise you, time we have to train. So it's either that or it does'nt happen. Have to be done by 05:00.
