  1. I also have a pair of Oakleys that I scrached after a face plant on the mtb. I have tried plenty of shops to no avail. But everyone I talked to said the same thing so me after my request: Order from their online shop, Its way cheaper than ordering through a shop. I have not ordered yet because I bought a new set of Oakleys after I saw what they charge for replacement lenses. But I see you get free shipping, 90 day free return and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Might be worth it to buy online.
  2. Shows you how polite Joburg people can be when the Lions play well B)
  3. Was thinking the same thing.
  4. Ahhh. I know your father very well. In fact its your mother that inspired/motivated me to shoot in the world shoot. She approached me one day at Premier shooting range and we talked about a possible team for world shoot. (remember it like yesterday). Great people and always very helpful. Gave me lots of tips when I started.
  5. Haha, ok maybe I did a little
  6. I probably do. Though I must admit that I have not been shooting a lot the past two years. Was away on business last year and haven't been shooting this year. Will get back into it early next year. Convert money into noise! B)
  7. I totally agree with you. If you have a firearm pointed at you its not worth taking the risk, give them the bike. You most probably have family that loves you and whom you love. It's not worth risking your life to save a bicycle. You have to think about them as well.
  8. I'm not blowing my own trumpet here but: I have been doing IPSC shooting since the age of 13. I have represented South Africa in the World Shoot at the age of 17 after I have become SA Champ in which I came 9th overall in Juniors. I know a fair bit of shooting I'd say, and have done and seen many of these type of combat training. I have been mugged before on a bike as well. I expressed my opinion about the technique that's all. In some cases it might work but I fear in most cases it won't. The technique relies heavily on getting your head out the way of the firearm and then you also need to be able to grab the firearm with the first attempt. Also note how still the attacker is standing after the gun has been grabbed? You think for one moment that that will be the case when being attacked? Now after you have considered all these add 1 or 2 more attackers into the picture (as statistic shows that most attackers does not operate alone). PS. If you want to try this technique you are more than welcome to contact me. We can use a bb gun the first time around.
  9. Also if someone points a firearm at the back of your head they will most probably have their finger on the trigger. By grabbing the firearm and PULLING it over your shoulder there is a substantial chance of having a shot go off and hitting you in the back of the head or neck.
  10. Only works if you ride a 26er
  11. Yup. Makes two of us.
  12. This might not be a bad idea. Like a petition ride. We can get all the newspapers that stated their interest to cover the petition. Maybe ride from the scene to the Garsfontein police station and hand over a mandate where we demand action. I mean we do have a right to protection. That's what we are paying for. EDIT: Remembered the paper thingy's name was a mandate
  13. Ry jy ooit nog fiets...............Ons wil nie he jy moet agter raak en ons ophou nie
  14. Glad you are ok. I seriously hope that these guys get caught.
  15. Now will be a perfect time for the police to raid the squatter camp. If the bike is still in the camp they can locate it and question the people in the area if found and try and get a identikit off the person. If they catch the guys napping they can probably catch them and get an illegal firearm off the streets as well. In my dreams I guess.
  16. Worse is if they fire the first shot and hit you and take your firearm away from you. Then they have two weapons to rob/kill people with. That's my biggest fear of riding with a weapon. It's happened to me before and its bugged me a lot. Luckely it wasnt a firearm they took from me.
  17. Hope these @rseholes have run out of ammo by now!
  18. Agree but not every cyclist is a hubber, thus not every cyclist knows where the hot spots are.........
  19. You might as well convert your bike into a fixed cog bike. You will have way more stopping power than putting mechanical brakes on your bike. I think if you use your feet to stop the bike will also work better than mechanical brakes. Rather have a look at theses. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/65633-avid-elixir-5s-white-with-160mm-rotors-r950/ https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/65250-avid-elixir-5s-brakes-reduced-price/ https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/65146-elixir-r-brakeset/ I have a set of Avid Elixir R on my bike and they do the job quite well. I am not a big fan of Avid but they are a 1000 times better than any mechanical brake set.
  20. Concept Cyclery does not fix Garmin products. Delay could have been from the Garmin side??? Spoke...........Ja they should have put in a bit more effort to get this done in time! Chain that broke. Could be a manufacturers fault or maybe you abused the shifter....and you could have asked what the chain cost before telling them to go ahead with the fitment.
  21. I reckon that a brake set is very important because it's the part that stops you and skimping on the brake set may be dangerous. It will also influence your confidence on the bike because better quality brakes gives you more control over the bike..............That's unless you pull them to hard and you go over the handlebars
  22. Going the cheap way might just cost you more in the end. If the disc wheel set is cheap it may very well not be very strong and you will need to true the wheel often and possibly replace spokes regularly. A cheap brake set will frustrate you more than v-brakes because they might fade quickly or may need regular maintenance like bleeding etc. If you want to upgrade I would recommend buying a decent brake set and rims. They will cost you more but save you on maintenance in the long run.
  23. Damm, you going so slow that you can't even ride in a straight line
  24. I guess they would demand that the municipality give them rdp housing before they will be willing to move and 900+ (growing by the day) rdp housing won't happen quickly if ever. They can't even supply the townships with that amount of housing.
  25. that's quite a bit bigger than the last time I went past there when we lived in the area. That time there were like 20 houses there and was mostly construction workers from the area. I can just imagine what effect it has on the local property market.
