  1. Hope pro 2 with Stans ZTR Flow rims. Can't wait for mine to arrive.
  2. Any tyre. In the end it comes down to the rider.
  3. Yes, I agree on the chain line. Rather make sure. Mine is sort of inline... I think I used less spacers on the BB, to get the blade closer to the frame to straighten the chainline. Something like that. PS. Never use an old (worn) 9sp chain. Lesson learnt.
  4. Ja quite easy. I saw this on a friend's bike and then tried it myself. It's a standard 32T Truvativ blade, after I found out that the SLX blades don't fit on the old LX cranks. oops. Enjoy the build and post pics afterwards!
  5. Hi Rod Here's a pic of the crank. Hope the detail is sufficient. Hope it helps!!! I'm running it with a single speed chain.
  6. Yes. will post some when I get home. Used shorter crank bolts which I got for free from a nice guy at the LBS.
  7. Mount the middle blade in the big blade's position. That's what I did with an older type Shimano LX crank and it works... beautifully...
  8. Me and a friend discussed this scenario just the other day on what to do if your derailleur breaks in the tour (because his broke 2 weeks before the Argus). and I suggested single speed. And now it happened!! Sweet. Well done.
  9. Had a 130mm Marzocchi XC700 on it, good feel, no nose diving etc, although it was not one of the best forks. I might have abused it a little as well... About to run it with a Revelation 150mm. At last!! (Thanks Werner)
  10. looking forward to this one
  11. Also saw the guy lying just after Edinburgh, passing through with group R. Did not look good at all. Hope he is ok.
  12. Did it 2008, 2009 on Morewood shova with knobblies ( you don't put slicks on a shova) and Yesterday on my On One 456 with knobblies. (4h46min) Basically rode all the way on my own, cannot keep up with groups, not fit enough. So for next year it's either a road bike or train harder/ride more long distance/get off the damn couch.
  13. got a 710mm on the shova. i like it a lot. more control and not too wide to clip trees, although it can be a close call sometimes.
  14. nice. got a 456 summer season on the way! can't wait!
  15. you have to do it. did it in 2008, with not so heavy training. We made it, but not in a huge amount of comfort... 2009 and this year could not make it due to work related stuff. Next year I'll def make a plan to do it again. Great event.
  16. saw it. ran from the braai into the house to watch the trials guy. some serious skill!
  17. Depends on what car I use, mine or my late Grandfather's '84 Corolla (great car); the Car:Bike ratios can be 3.5:1 OR 0.75:1. (Based on the latest offer for the corolla)
  18. It's done. Good luck!
  19. PM me the details and I'll buy tickets. thanks
  20. I had the 2008 reba race dual air. best 100mm fork i'd ever ridden.
  21. same here. used to go biking almost every single day. sigh
  22. If the food does not decay, then you won't decay as well. This is some sort of elixir of life... Eat McD's and live long
  23. it's due to electrical induction. The bike gets charged and a potential difference exists between you and the bike and then you get zapped. it's harmless, only static electicity. Can be uncomfortable though. Friend of mine experienced the same underneath the 400kV lines crossing the road between Ceres and PA Hamlet.
  24. Must be around R15 per can now?
  25. I guess the Shova would have been a better comparison to the ASR 5. Being 5.5 inches in stead of four like the zula.. but ja, happy miles to you. I get them each time I ride my shova.
