  1. Found this in my mailbox today: 151km in total, going up Long Tom Pass on stage 3 Best I start training?
  2. Blue and yellow uses pretty much the same route out to the Cradle. Morning rides at the Engen on Main are for all comers... If you are a fast rider, you can join Andrew Mclean on his morning rides out to the Cradle and back - ask at the shop. Other groups starting at Dunkeld Cycles & Rosebank are not club affiliated either... So the big question is what you want out of the club you join? Safety (vehicle following - only on Saturdays - Blue & Yellow clubs)?, steady, speed graded groups?
  3. OK, I consider myself a dirt roadie only because... heck WHY not? It is only a mindset as I have no desire to break a leg(not like an actor!), so safety plays a major roll I'm keen to join a ride here and there, but somehow I do not feel welcome? Maybe I should drag Nance along as my ticket and 'accompany' her.... arghhh maybe just go ride with her on hallowed ground...
  4. Sounds like a plan. 28.5/h is not too bad, but I'll be properly stuffed afterwards! where/who/how do we meet up? I'll be on a red Raleigh, wearing the Cyclenation Jozi skyline kit...
  5. Nor does it state that they tried to bribe the cop ... Are hubber jumping to conclusinons again?
  6. The theory is that crank arm length is a function of leg length, not wheel size
  7. I'm torn between this and the 24hr MTB event for which I've entered. Have attempted the IKMR before but bailed at 180km.... what to do, what to do? This is is starts/finish 2km from home and VG is a l-o-n-g drive home after a SS solo effort...
  8. Auto lap is one of the more useful functions.... Ever done lap races/crits? Or 5km splits on a long ride? On the other hand auto pause is absolutely useless as it creates a false sense of accomplishment/speed/fitness

Actually sad how some measure themselves against the weakest riders out there! Events like the 94.7 and Cape Argus WILL pull all kinds of people with bicycles to contest the 'challenge' because of 1.) peer pressure, 2.) safety (closure), 3.) nanny-ness (many water points, safety marshals roaming mechanics, 4.) "I did it"-ness. This is now vs MTB marathons where 1.) everybody tells everybody else how tough they were for competing in these (making it rue to some extend), 2.) remoteness of route 3.) No real help visible/available Get a skinny road bike and go ride VA/VB/VC or A bunch. Stick with the bunch to the end (or ride away from them), and THEN come back and tell everybody how easy road cycling is! 30km/h or less hardly qualifies as race pace on road bike! See you all the the Jock at the Creamy Tart next winter! But first, back to my flat running shoes

I stuck mine on the night before. It stayed stuck throughout a 160kms. I did not stick in over the pockets as they stretch with a few items in them. I stuck the number to the shirt's back above the pockets. Pre stretched the shirt material a little bit before sticking the number on,
  12. Racetec - www.racetec.co.za were previously know as Winning Time. They use the yellow (older), or orange (newer chips). Events like 94.7, Cape Argus use them Championchip - www.championchip.co.za - They use the round green chip. The do the timing for Comrades as well. Runners seem to have a blue chip. Chips from each of these companies are not recognised by the other in events that they time. Championchip even had(still have?) an interdict against Racetec preventing them from recognising their chips on Racetec events. Performance Timing? Never heard of them, although there is a UKS based www.performancetiming.com
  13. Received this in my mailbox dated 16 November (I was away from it since Thursday): "My vriend is gistermiddag ge-bike-jack.

Slavester!!! Kid is quite the racing snake now. I think he does nothing BUT riding his bike. Only way for me to put more km on my car than what he puts on his bike was to go to far away places for bike races... Like Kremetart, Jock, OFM.
  17. "dope" meaning taking a substance for its performance enhancing side effect and not for its intended prescribed medical purpose? If so, no. If not so, yes. Corticosteroids, blood transfusions, you name it.. I'm sure a lot of it has passed through my body
  18. At the very least (If it must be 'legal') I'd need something that delivers a massive spike to get through that thread!
  19. Neither am I
  20. Hey! that bike has a name. it is called FRIB!
