  1. True. Clubs have a code of conduct. So what? Even if a club has a code of conduct, even if a club has a disciplinary committee, even if a club has a schedule of fines. So what? Even if a club kicks a member out of the club. So what? Did it make the person stop littering? Did it ostracize the now ex-member from cycling? Answer is a resounding NO! You do not even need to belong to a club to participate in races. All you need is to belong to CSA, and possibly be affiliated to a province. Ok, if you want to race Lic. Vets etc it is a bit different, but the hurdles to create your own club (band of brothers) are somewhat low. So, now the litterbug gets kicked out the club. So what now? He/she does not need references to become a member of the next club. Behaviour has not changed, but a lot of admin and animosity has been created. Affecting unrelated parties as well. Creating rules (especially unenforcible and without recourse) for the sake of rules only creates a nanny state (yes it starts at this grassroots level!) Speaking to people (alleged litterbugs and clubs in this case) directly and politely WILL yield far better results than coming down on them like the proverbial ton of bricks as we surely want to increase and promote the sport of cycling amongst potential cyclists first, and also amongst the general public rather than kick people out or be perceived as a clique / elitist / dogmatic about rules. NOTE: Never in this whole sad thread did I ever condone littering
  2. to add: toilet paper is for wiping your ass (Afrikaans: om deur jou gat te trek)
  3. We are on the same page Just as schools should not be expected to teach children morals & values (these are cultural in any case), just as much we cannot expect the same from clubs and other sporting organisations.. Also, runners do not point fingers at each other (not the groups & clubs I interact with / am part of in any way) If cyclists perceive themselves to be normal (generally), then runners are dope smoking, carefree, loving hippies!
  4. the trait beinh exposed here is noy limited to cycling litterbugs only. Show any South African that he / she is wrong and they only reaction you are guaranteed to get is that of angry aggression. Dragging related parties through the mud is going about it incorrectly. Expecting clubs to be moral gate keepers for their members will not have much effect... just as much as our children are not being taught moral values at school anymore - most probably for mu h the same reason as what motorists / cyclists showeach other the finger and cyclists fight amongst themselves.. Why do runners not fight amongst themselves the way cyclists do?
  5. Strongs aan jou en familie.
  6. The hub definitely need to rename the Rant & Rave section to something meaningful. Also a new section called "*** en kerm" will help by giving the moaners a speshul corner of their own.
  7. Let's talk specifics. how much sugar per per annum is the limit for 'moderation'?
  8. http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/nutrition/a/maltitol.htm "Although claims are often made that maltitol has little impact on blood sugar, this turns out not to be the case. Maltitol Has Carbs Maltitol is a carbohydrate. Although our bodies do not absorb all the calories in maltitol, this substance does provide us with 2 to 3 calories per gram, compared to the 4 calories per gram of sugar. (For what its worth, I have noticed that the claim of 2 calories per gram usually comes from literature provided by the manufacturer or the low calorie food industry whereas other analyses tend to be closer to 3 calories.) Since maltitol is a carbohydrate, and since it provides calories, you would expect it to impact blood glucose. You would be correct."
  9. Just started with s01e01. Loved it. Season 2 starts overseas tomorrow
  10. Loved it from the first episode. Could not watch more than 2 or 3 episodes of Hostages though
  11. stom geslaan myself!
  12. One thing building an unbranded bicycle from a generic frame by a Chinese builder. Something completely different sticking stickers from a big brand on it and making it out to be something it is not. Now it is not an unbranded / generic / cheap bicycle. It is a FAKE Specialized now.
  13. try abdominal breathing and stop trying to show off your tits / chest
  14. Agreed. No correlation between colds/flu/sinusitis episodes and this
  15. Who do these things? GP / cardiologist / sports medicine doc / academic hospital ? (Those are in increasing preference. GP can't even cure a cold, and the cardiologist I think has proven himself to only deal with the sausage machine leading to the theater table)
  16. dizzy is more of a feeling than actual spinning walls (never been drunk, so cannot relate 100%) If I am fit enough, I can run up a hill until I see black spots.... Never "seen darkness", however getting up from doing floor exercises at the bio I sometimes went ash white in the face, and could not concentrate on that around me. Had to stand still, close eyes and gather myself again. Ash white face came (and went) as if a light switch is flicked
  17. I'd rather hold on to the wall. Getting up from my haunches will most probably induce light headedness again.
  18. Thanks very interesting, did not read thorugh the whole document - lack of medeical technical vocab this side Having done endurance type of sports all my life (middle distances & cross country from primary school days) this seems quite feasible. Glad to see that all I am is reasonably fit
  19. I've had the symptoms for more than a year. It was only with the regular UFO sessions it became an issue. Middle ear for more than a year? eish
  20. Yup it falls right into how mine seems to respond. Never been a fan of getting up quickly, etc (Guess the body / mind subconciously knows what is good for it!). Will keep an eye on it and just work on the fitness again. Things should (hopefully) get better, otherwise I will ascribe it to lack of 'youngster-ness', and not to lack of fitness
  21. Stop being do so damn melodramatic G.
  22. Sounds a bit esoteric. From what can this be (sodium loss)? I doubt there is sodium/electrolyte loss as I did 2 ride of more than 130km km the past weekend. Never had a consistent thirst that could not be satiated by drinking water Internal blood loss is not happening
  23. Intelligence Season 1 also launched last night www.celebdirtylaundry.com/2014/intelligence-recap-1714-season-1-premiere-pilot/
  24. Justified S05 is suppose to have started last night overseas!
