  1. Its your bike, do what makes you happy and what you're comfortable with, just do the frame justice I suppose. I've seen a guy driving a Ferrari with TSW's on it. Now THATS a problem!
  2. Your friend had the right idea because spares carry no duties whereas a complete bike you have to pay 15% customs duty etc which in the end works out to about 30% on top of the price, so in theory he might have got away with it but only if they had split it and sent the parcels on different carriers. Unfortunately SARS have become very switched on when it comes to these tactics. I'm sure he was less than impressed with the bill, thanks for the heads up though...
  3. Thought I'd just rack your guys brains quickly seeing as you seem to do a fair amount of importing/online shopping... I'm bringing in a bike from Italy but its from the factory and not a reseller so I need to arrange transport. I've brought in stuff before but not for a long time and I know how shipping costs can vary from company to company (I've already got some quotes and some are double others). Can any of you suggest a shipping agent or courier who is reasonable. I know its expensive but some of these guys are talking R12k (doesn't include VAT and duties) which is just ridiculous, I can fly there and bring it back with me for that price! Anyway your advice would be appreciated. Apologies if theres a similar thread somewhere and I'm double posting...
  4. Well he's in Cape Town like the one that was stolen but I see you posted on that thread already. I see the other one had Dura Ace though? Interesting though...
  5. Yes, for the huge support from the public and everyone involved in helping plan this event, to all the people who raised money for charity. And especially to the other 23999 cyclists who didn't ride into me.
  6. G 7:04 Same as last year sso can't complain I guess.
  7. Absolutely! They say most drivers will lose their licenses within 3 to 6 months if they enforce this demerit system properly.
  8. We're a third world country trying to introduce first world regulations and it doesn't work or make sense. Sort out the basics first!
  9. Such sad news, he was an inspiration to so many young cyclists. Still remember his shop in Bramley when I first started cycling. RIP
  10. Tragic news, my sincerest condolences.

  12. Well said! I'd rather have a well organised event. At the end of the day all we really need from them, other than their organisation, is the race number. I'm not entering for t-shirts and towels and socks.
  13. Don't use Q20. Speak to your LBS, they'll help you.
  14. These are such nice bikes, are they available in SA or is there no agent? Haven't seen one here in years! http://www.mosercycles.com/2010_Moser_collection.htm
  15. Good luck Kieran - you gonna love it!

  17. This will be my 6th. Did a 2:47 last year but doubt I'll beat that this year.
  18. Interesting debate this, I must say I was also sceptical about joining a club and trained on my own for 2 years before I did and I must say I must have been crazy not to have done it sooner purely because its safer, lets face it. I think people should rather underestimate their fitness when starting out, start with the slower groups regardless of if you can go faster and work your way up with each ride, its WAY better than getting dropped and that way you'll meet more people and feel more comfortable instead of worrying if you'll keep up. There are egotistical idiots everywhere and it doesn't mean you need to ride with them so don't let their insecurities become your problem. Not a nice experience for her and good for her for not letting it stand in her way! I'm amazed that some people still insist on not joining a club. Give it a chance.
  19. And especially if it's affecting your chest then don't take a chance, but I'm not a doctor - they'll tell you straight away if you should or shouldn't.
  20. Thats unbelievable!
  21. Stunning pics!
  22. Nice!
  23. Hi Wayne You don't mention what you're upgrading from? There are guys on here who'll be more knowledgeable than I am but I can tell you that Sora is Shimano's entry level, Tiagra is slightly better but if you can afford it then go for 105 and I'm sure everyone will agree with me there. Good luck.sandro2009-09-21 02:26:40
  24. My condolences to family and friends of his. I HATE hearing news like this I think its so sad that such an awesome sport so often leads to tragedies like this.
