  1. Hang on Here Mom.... You say your under 18 yr old son is selling Goods to help with you "Financial Difficulties" Within 3 days he posted 3 Items up for sale for an amount of around R6000 and a WANTED ad for Carbon Wheels to the value of R5000??? You sure he was selling to help you and not Himself???? Secondly dont let your son put his cell number on an open forum and then go to school with it if you dont want people calling him... I smell at RAT.

  3. In my Personal Experience Id say half the Full 22.5% to between 10-12% of Recent PB. In 2013 I had run an 1h25 min Half Marathon and finished 70.3 EL with a 1h34.15 So with a 1h45 Id say look for a 1h55 to sub2.
  4. All depends on how hard you hit the Bike, but if you are Smart and leave some gas in the Tank I would agree with 20-25% diffrence from "RECENT" PB to Ironman Split... My 2013 - Vaal in March 2013 3h05 , Ironman Marathon 2013 - 3h47 Thus 22.5% was mine To add To Ops Title, i would add RECENT marathon PB, last 6 Months ish
  5. Well to start you should be doing more than 40km per week by Peak ironman Training, a Normal peak Triathlon week would generally include 5 runs, 1 x Sunday long run (3hrs), 2 x Interval Hill Sessions of around 75-90 Minutes each and 2 small Brick Runs ( 1 hard after a Mid Week race pace brick session 60min bike/30run etc and a 20-30mins easy run after Saturday mornings Long ride), thus you are already on 60-70kms per week (5-6min per km) on "Tired" legs. Thus when you are dropping 2 sports and upping your running week to 90-100kms on "fresh running legs" its not that much of a jump. Also the jump from 30km to 65km can be made easier by getting the qualifier 42km in first and of course you have done a 42km on TIRED legs at the end of Ironman only weeks before. A good 50% of Novice Comrades runners (including me on my 1st in 2012) jump straight from 42km to 90kms without doing a single distance in between. The other 50% have got in either an ultra or a Comrades Long run (all the jhb running clubs have an organised "water pointed" one, RAC is prob the best, so dont do this alone if possible). Thus why i say the Race Day for Comrades is more of a "Beast" as unlike Ironman where you have swum a 3.8km, cycled a 180km, and prob run at least 35kms in training individually. This time you are at your Max trained distance only half way in.
  6. This is pretty much spot on to where your Biggest weeks need to be. Im not doing IM this year but the last 2 years my Big weeks (18-22hrs) were close to. 75km Running, 10-12hrs Biking and 10.5km swim (3 x 3.5km sessions)
  7. I did Ironman onto Comrades Down Run in 2012, and Ironman (12 April) Sani2C (15-17 May) Comrades Up Run (1June) in 2013. I would say Focus purely on your Ironman Training up until The Ironman itself in April and then take a 1 week break completely and then you pretty much need to hit your Comrades long run (65kms ish usually on the last weekend of April) From there Drop the Swims and Bikes and just concentrate on trying to get in 90-100km running weeks (at 5min/km thats only 7-8.5hrs training, seems like childs play after the 20-23hr weeks you have been putting in for Ironman) One change to normal Ironman training is i would advise to get your Comrades Marathon Qualifier in in the 1st week March (Vaal marathon is a good flat easy one in Jhb). This goes against alot of ironman coaches thoughts on not to do a Full marathon prior to IM but you dont wanna rely on the Ironman run to get your qualifier just incase the legs arent there after the 180km Bike.(there is a diffrent Qualifying Comrades seeding chart for the run being done in an IM) Pm me if you want it and ill mail it to you. Also the Comrades "preferred minimum" Goal Milleage is 1000km running from 1 Jan- Race Day so try and keep 1 eye on that during the Ironman training. In 2012 i got away with only 800odd kms in that period and had a very enjoyable Down run in 9h11 but in 2013 after adding Sani2C and going Up I had done over 1200kms running but the Up run broke me alot more chasing a sub 9 (managed to get there in 8h47 but with plenty Pain) Spose it all depends on your goal Times for both IM and Comrades, if they are just to finish im sure you could drop those hours/mileage but the more you put in before the more Fun both days out will be. Remember - Ironman Training is long a tedious but the day is Great, Comrades training is alot easier and less time consuming but the day itself is a Beast.
  8. I Agree its a Novel Idea, however it would make sense for a 2-3 week rental for an Ironman Athletes to get used to a New disk or Deep sections wheels. If you had Put even 54mm Deep section wheels on for the First time in the winds of 2012 IMSA 90% of your wheels would have come back damaged from people being blown off the roads. Im used to my 60mm Deep sections but I even went off the road on a number of occasions in those cross winds.
  9. Yep, Im In.... Spoke to the ladies at Registration @ Tribe that said the water temp was at 22.1 deg this morning, As long as it stays at 23.9 or below Wetsuits are Legal. Which being only 4 days away is pretty Likely. Cant Wait, should be an awesome race.
  10. Really....? I think the Title should have read... LBS had 5% Handling/return policy on all their Goods..... After understanding my stupidity in buying the wrong Goods the Owner checked everything was there and Awesomely decided to waiver the 5% Fee... Great Service.
  11. My Answer to the Above is "Join the Twitter Ride". It was the first time i've done it and it was absoluetly awesome. There were closer to 400 than the 50 you mention and the organisation was brilliant finishing inside the Dome to an awesome free breakie of Coffees, Egg and Bacon rolls, Muffins, Smoothies and off course the chance to ride alongside/and chat and get pics at the end with legends as Impey, Thomas and off course Phil Ligget. let alone all the current/ex SA Mens and Womens Pro's. Dont mock it till you have tried it. If you cant beat em, Join em.
  12. Haha, yep cos i would want to walk through an expo at 4am before i start or in my Bib afterwards. Was waiting for someone to suggest moving the Race venue. Cos ive always wanted to do the Argus, and Cape Town is so far, cant they just bring it somewhere more "convienient" for ME, like Northgate...
  13. Not sure about that, I waited over 2hrs for my Comrades 2013 number on the friday afternoon at the expo this year. If you have an event that over 19000+ people are collecting numbers over a 3 day period there are going to be Queues. And thats why these events have over 20 000 participants... Because they are GREAT races with very Affordable entry fees.
  14. I said "I" waited a "little" while. I would also beg to differ. These Ladies have organised "one" of the best cycle races in South Africa for 17 years now. Again, Choice, just dont enter again next year.
  15. I Think you all being a Bit Harsh.. Firstly if you parked in Northgate Shopping Centre parking there is No charge, just a Little walk, If you chose to pay R20 to park on the doorstep of the dome thats your choice. Secondly... It clearly states on your seeding letter that history has shown that Most athletes try and collect their race numbers on the Thursday morning and it has proven to be very crowded so please try and come on the Friday or Saturday. They have accomodated this by staying open until 8pm on a friday night if needed. And being open Most of saturday. I think its about Choice, we dont pay the entry Fee for Pretty goody bags but for a FULL road closure safe event. Also if we choose to avoid the recomendation not to go the first morning and thus stand in a long queue, that again was our choice. Yes, I went this morning, and yes i waited a little while. but i expecetd it. And i cant wait for an awesome race sunday.
  16. 7h07 is J i think
  17. Wow, Please can you autograph my TapOut Vest for me
  18. I own an embroidery/printing factory in Kya Sands, if you get Momsen and Cycle factorys permission and hi res logos I will embroid or print a Cycling jersey for you at no cost. You will just have to supply the jersey, and i agree a hub one would be cool to repay them for the free forum that got you this far. Would also be cool to silkscreen a 1 colour roll honour somewhere of all the guys who helped you get this trusty steed.
  19. Says my 2nd half of Scum and Scummer who has joined me for 90% of the above
  20. Stand to be Corrected but around 11k for a Team of 2 for 2014
  21. The Bigger Question would be how much does it cost to keep the wife happy to justify all the training and nights away to fill this calender of events... actually even forgot to add Van Gaalens trailseeker and 94,7 to those...
  22. Scary Thought so gonna leave the calculator in the drawer for now, but 2013 raced, and 2014 entered, (only major races and tours) Done 70.3 Ironman 2013 Sani2013 Comrades Legends Entered and doing 3Towers Global11 Rockman Ultra X Epic 2014 Sani2014
  23. Nah, I beleive you can buy something like this for R750... then you can give the other r250 to a charity of some sort
  24. Your backflip on yellow wood made by Tour.... You need to mail me the Gopro file... sure my face was priceless.
