  1. In the orange vest? He wasn't with us, but I think he was a tourist with his Mrs. Either Aussie or Kiwi.
  2. It's the new Red Phoenix AKA Bennet's Red. Starts right next to the new Black route AKA The Plumber... And yes, it's on never-ending side, but towards the middle of the mountain. EDIT: But as you can see, cornering is my nemesis. And I was completely blown out from the climb(s). No speed coming out of the corners, and missed most of the jumps. It's a *** lekker trail. Not as technical as Canaries, but way faster if you have the energy for it.
  3. Myself, Raydek & TaahirWP at Jonkers a couple of weeks back. Beware, it's slow. I was absolutely toasted by this point.
  4. Still got 3,000 for my 3h45 effort at average 158BPM. I don't see myself getting any less than 600 points for a ride anytime soon...
  5. Abuse is fun. But yeah. The additional weight of a full pack is a bit much. Maybe. This was a tester as well. Next time I will be slimming the pack down. Also didn't want to get caught out at the waterpoints if they didn't have a lot to nonch on. EDIT: BUT - I'd rather lose 20kg myself than do away with 3 or 4 kg in the backpack.
  6. No, my head is just that big. Pitfalls of short lenses.
  7. please delete this thread and post in the Vitality thread... But - option 2 isn't an option...Strava no more. HR device only (Polar / garmin / TomTom etc. My advice - Edge 20/25 or a Polar HRM. Or the Apple Watch, which is free if you hit your goals - which you seem to be doing on an ongoing basis.
  8. yeah. Agreed. So I'll still tote an energy bar or something, but maybe not the entire sink.
  9. the key to speed on a bike is not to suck... But yes, I agree. Maaaybe a bottle would have been the better option, or a fanny-pack like the Camelbak whateveritis... I also didn't eat the snacks. So not necessary, maybe. Still - my first enduro in 2 years.
  10. I've done that before (the boerie rolls, not the weber) Riding buddies were NOT impressed when out came the tinfoil-encased goodness and all they had were jungle oats bars...
  11. it's carrying my 3l water, jacket (in case it gets cold) spare gloves, tools, trail-side snacks & powerade (If I need it) And a parachute. Cos you know, Enduro. It's my all-day pack. Carries everything I need and more, and it doubles as extra super secret training device when it's fully loaded... It's also that, or a water bottle.
  12. They do have a point. Only Duc has the problem, at the moment. And they ARE harsher on the tyres than all the others.
  13. I know! The pitfalls of having a short lens...
  14. Got a pic of me on SS3, just before I passed the rider in front of me
  15. Dirtopia Enduros: May 15th - Uitkyk (Simonsberg) June 11 & 12 - Welvanpas August 21 - Steilte Trails (Helderberg) November 13 - Delheim (Simonsberg) WP Gravity Enduros: Venues TBA 5 June 31 July 14 Aug 25 Sep 30 Oct
  16. Thanks for the clarification. And yes, agreed on the last point.
  17. From yesterday's Enduro. Snapped by Chris Hitchcock. This was just before I passed the guy in front of me.
  18. not a fooking clue, mate. Never been there before. Apparently lots of climbing (sigh)
  19. Definitely not by me, but I get your point. Still. Tyres are one of the most important things on the bike. And with the inconsistency of the tyres being supplied by Michelin so far, it's not hard to see how one "hard" tyre may be entirely different to another...
  20. he attributed it to issues with his rear tyre. Which, considering Michelin's track record so far, is not unlikely. Seems like a highly inconsistent tyre.
  21. Because there was a catastrophic failure of Scott Reading's rear tyre on the free practice, and Michelin removed BOTH rear tyre options as they shared the same construction characteristics. They introduced another Hard option, but Race Direction limited the stints to 10 laps for safety reasons. Michelin need to up their game, properly.
