  1. Sniff. Reminds me of a pre-logging, pre-fire tokai. When the snake trails were still the snake trails...
  2. Yes, it does. It's got a slight gap between the lug and the post. When I had mine (with my old reign x) it was slammed to the top of the seat tube and the lug extended over the clamp. EDIT: Pic to show what I mean http://ep1.pinkbike.org/p6pb11229425/p5pb11229425.jpg
  3. Yeah, but that wasn't the Following that he was on. It was a proto version of the Wreckoning. They got it wrong on the article... Just because Evil only "made" the following and insurgent then, they assumed it was the Following. But he's been riding the Wreckoning for a while. http://www.pinkbike.com/news/evil-bikes-the-wreckoning-first-look-core-bike-2016.html http://www.vitalmtb.com/videos/features/Vital-RAW-Luke-Strobel-on-the-Evil-Wreckoning,31125/sspomer,2 http://www.vitalmtb.com/videos/features/Vital-RAW-Luke-Strobel-29er-Destruction-in-the-PNW,28614/sspomer,2 http://dirtmountainbike.com/videos/luke-strobel-on-the-evil-wreckoning.html
  4. you'll get there, bro. Trust me. It may not be with clearing 8m tables, or taking massive 2m drops, but as you get better you'll actually grip a little looser, trust yourself (and the bike) a bit more and just learning to relax a bit. I know I need to heed my own advice most of all (loads of things still freak me out, and my crash at hoogies is STILL weighing on my mind) but it gets a little better each day. To use the old adage - Rome wasn't built in a day. You've been avoiding this sort of thing your whole MTB "career" - it's going to take a while to overcome those initial hurdles.
  5. good to know Mr Louw's classes are paying off... It gets better with time. And practice. And yeah, he's one helluva rider. Watched him coming down Hoogies the other day, all the way from the top as I was sitting on the benches at the bottom. Just so smooth. Oh - and I have a mate like that as well. Muzzaratti. Whippet. Slightly shorter than me but must weigh about half of what I do. Climbs like a mountain goat. Then another mate of mine, Luke. Descends like a MOFO. So much talent. Having said that - it's all about the fun on the way down. You can smash a climb as hard as you want, and feel awesome at the top - but a good descent is just.... yeah. The rush. The feeling. The excitement.
  6. Problem with that equation is that the it assumes that potential energy automatically converts to kinetic once moving. In my case, the ability to convert potential energy is indirectly proportionate to the size of the climb preceding the descent. But yes - all things remaining equal, the heavier rider will get to the bottom first. When the heavy rider is busting a lung, though, his ability to work the terrain and actually get out the saddle to pedal is sorely lacking. I had Raydek ride with me one day following an excessively heavy training day. He was completely blown by the top of Conters blue line. Told me halfway down that he simply couldn't concentrate nor get his body to do what he wanted it to do. Computer said no. Told him "welcome to my world". That's how it is permanently for us fatties. By the time the fun stuff gets there, we're too blown to do anything with it. As for Tabata.. http://www.tabataprotocol.com/
  7. Negligible. My one and only time for long rides are sundays. Generally hit 3 to 4 hours if I can. And that's at a solid 85-90% of HRR. http://img-9gag-fun.9cache.com/photo/aVP4bbK_700b.jpg
  8. LOL. We do. But less beer now. Reminds me - I need more whisky. ATM time is at a premium. This Tabata thing kicks that in the nuts. And my legs are now jelly... Oh - and the lardiness is hampering my ability to do what I love most about MTB - the way down.
  9. Just got 300 points. Quick 30 minute session on the watt bike. Avg 250w for 20 min then a quick tabata session. Fark me, that was difficult. Hit Avg 1000w for the first 20s interval, but then dropped to 800w for the 2nd set, 600w for 3rd and then averaged about 450w - 500w for the remaining sets. Jelly. For those unfamiliar with tabata sessions. 10min warmup (I extended this to 20 min) followed by 8 sets of 20s max effort (real max) and 10s rest. End of exercise. Then I had a 5 min spin-down followed by a 1 min sprint at 400w. Damn. The rest of the workout was me walking back to the car. Next time I'll be doing it with the rower but "warming up" for 25 min so I can finish the tabata session as I hit 30 min.
  10. engagement is only a problem when you're back-pedalling. When you're constantly on the power, the hub is permanently engaged. May be why you're not experiencing any issues with the low engagement - planning the climb properly according to the terrain.
  11. Yep, up by 100 points to 500. That's what I was on previously though, but I expect I'll get there by tomorrow. 30 min slow and steady on the spinning bike and then a Tabata session on the rower will get me to 300 points easily.
  12. Those tyres are well outside their usable life. Replace them. Seriously. 10,000 km on a single set of tyres is far too much. Besides - even though that seems as if it has some tread left, it's not functional.
  13. This Chinese GP is the single best race I've watched in... like... ages.
  14. went for a 1h30 rode yesterday. Stopped the watch at just over 1h30. It corrected to 1h28.... meh. Should have left it for a bit longer, but I proved that my 80% is ACTUALLY 65% of hrr. Which is bloody gard to stay at for me!
  15. Rock Razor 2.35 pacestar super gravity. Fast rolling thanks to the compound and small centre knobs but has the magic mary side knobs, so you can still corner like a baws. Kicks the racing ralph into touch, and is super tough as well
  16. pretty important. The stretch tests and pushup test is critical for that score. As is the hr reading after the step test
  17. Rabbit is DELICIOUS!!! Love the vermin. Squirrel, too. If you can get over the meagre meat portion per animal.
