  1. I'll pay for postage if you really really really feel like that. I'm in CT, and I know what speed services charge for postage. I'm serious...
  2. I got my current elixir 5's for the same price. Love those brakes...
  3. I know he was... read the post again... If he had used NEW softs... And yeah, Rosberg had a shocker. I'm just glad Hamfistilton came nowhere, again...
  4. If you're looking for new brakes, and don't want to spend all your money at once, you can do one side at a time... http://www.probikeshop.com/shimano-deore-br-m596-rear-brake-black/74832.html http://www.probikeshop.com/shimano-deore-br-m596-front-brake-black/74828.html
  5. Avid brakes have a bad rep, that's true. But only (mostly) due to mechs not setting them up properly, and their old rotor design giving hectic noise issues. First thing to try would be to change the rotors for some other ones, as this mostly solves the noise issue (bad design on old rotors) Next thing is to take them to a GOOD lbs, and get them to bleed the brakes. This should have been checked by your LBS upon building the bike, but sometimes they overlook this bit of service-related stuff. If you DO decide to swap out the brakes, you need only look at a set of Deore brakes and you'll be happy. Fit and forget. Why don't I suggest getting another set of Avids? Well, they're like owning a Ducati. You either love them or hate them, but they need the TLC to keep on working at their best. Whereas Shimano brakes (especially in the last few versions) are fit & forget items.
  6. The things we do... Saturday was my first time on the bike in 2 1/2 months. And yeah, you need fitness for DHI. But you'll smash it, HA...
  7. Alonso was on fire those last 12 laps... If Raikonnen had used new soft tyres in his last stint, he would have won. Without a doubt. Oh, and the camera man? My godmother didn't see it so we had to watch it in slow-mo on a 51" HD PDP. When slowed down we saw how bad it really was. But we all took a collective "oooooooooh!" when he got hit. Man, did he get hit hard! And the commentators reckon that the medical team say he was "basically okay" after the incedent.
  8. And a camera man had a rude awakening
  9. NIce. I'm taking my big lady for a ride at about 10. First time in 2 1/2 months.
  10. And when you accidentally cut through your brake hose and need to replace it quickly...
  11. Wrong on the cost thing - wheelbuilding takes time the first time round, but once you have the jist of it it's actually kinda theraputic. Brake bleeding - a kit costs no more than 1 1/2 bleeds by a LBS, and then you have a kit for life. Again, it's easy. Just a bit time consuming, and you need some common sense. But it's not rocket science. As for the tools - in for a grand and you have everything you need...
  12. Just bled my brakes - don't know what all the fuss is about. Sure, it takes time to do properly, but it's PISS easy.
  13. That would be Dan Dobinson at iride Africa Afaik.
  14. I can do most of the stuff myself. Haven't bled brakes before cos I haven't needed to, but I've built multiple bikes (road, MTB, DH and so on) so I like to think I have the expertise. Even rebuilt my forks a couple of times, and built my current wheelset (got complimented on the workmanship by a very experienced wheel builder on that, so I'm chuffed) Next thing is my brakes. But as with most things, it's out of necessity.
  15. Can you include your poll in this thread, Andre? I think you'll find a lot more people willing to complete a poll on here rather than on surveymonkey.
  16. I'm learning how to do that today. Managed to slice through my rear brake hose while removing a cable tie last night. So it's a hose replacement and full rebleed for me.
  17. Why oh why did I ever cut my rear brake hose?
