  1. Okay - under your system, with profit being made off the part and the service, if I were to buy a part from an LBS, I'd expect them to fit it free of charge.
  2. Rouxtjie, that's just it. If they haven't priced their service charges in order to allow for a profit margin on each service, then they're doing it wrong. And just because a bike may have to have a part replaced, doesn't mean that the guys must charge additional fees if the client brings in his own spares. They will still be making money on the service, which will take just as long as normal.
  3. Yeah. Precisely. And as for the whole servicing malarkey - the guys charge per hour, regardless of where you bought the stuff. Consider if you had had the part sitting at home collecting dust, and yo wanted it fitted 'cos your current one broke. Would you accept a surcharge just because you didn't BUY it there? No - I didn't think so. The LBS charges a set rate (or hourly rate) for a specific job, finish and klaar. Sales of parts & servicing of bikes are 2 different departments. You cannot penalize a person for not buying the part through you and asking you to fit it. That is just not good business practice.
  4. And the prize for sweeping statement of the month goes to....
  5. Hey Ratty, same with my LBS - Epic Bike Shop. Lance & co are really accommodating and even though I have bought items elsewhere, they're happy to fit for a small fee (part of normal service etc / labour per hour) and have a chat. I even buy little ancillary items there all the time, and they understand that money talks & if I can get a good deal elsewhere, I will - but I trust THEM to fit the stuff, 'cos it's what they do well.
  6. You won't be sorry - it's a sweeeeet fork. Just sold mine for its bigger brother, the Revelation...
  7. You're kidding.... please, be kidding... EDIT: With the mood I'm in today, I might just take that spade to the farkers.
  8. Yeah, it is, ain't it? Not like the normal mtb films. Has a lot of depth and soul to it...
  9. Dude, we all have someone or other who demands our time. I hve a 8 week old son, omega is up to his eyeballs in work, and the rest of us are either family ppl or have work / social commitments. The build days are structured on the first saturday of each month precisely so that those of us with commitments can make time to build / maintain. Even if it's just for an hour, try to make it. But hell, your appreciation is why we do it... And we appreciate your appreciation, if you know what I mean...
  10. Haha! Can see everyone's in the season of Tax Returns...
  11. dude, go to a physio. At least it will rule out anything else, and they'll manipulate to ease tension / swelling. Plus, it won't be as much as going to an Ortho... Less than R 500 if I remember correctly. There's one in Newlands - Newlands Physio (Pauline Hall I think) that did my knee when I injured it...
  12. Either a physio, or an Orthopaedic surgeon. I'd go with the physio first, just because Orthopods generally want to put you under the knife for pretty much everything. May be a tear, may be a strain, may even be a snap. Best go to a sports Physio first.
  13. Yeah, Oh Mega - it was super tacky yesterday. The flow was almost there, but you got bogged down in the corners 'cos of all the mud & clay. Needs to be remixed with more soil & re-packed now that it's wet and tacky.
  14. That is coming, Ossum. Unfortunately, as has been proven recently (and not so recently) a sign is nothing to someone who willingly flouts the laws and regulations, not to mention safety restrictions, on any trail system. Close a trail, it's re-opened 3 hours later. Put a sign up, it's ignored. Close an illegal divert, it's open that afternoon. We can do as much as we want to close the trails, but the majority of okes who ride those closed trails are the same guys who think nothing of gaining illegal entry to the area, forging new, illegal and inefficiently "built" trails and riding up the DH only sections. These guys will always be there. Having said that, signage is on its way. How long it will take to get here is another story altogether, but it is in the process of being put together. And then we shall have cake.
  15. Yeah, my do the same. My kyle straits are on their way out in a bit. Getting tatty and holey, hanks to senor doggy & washing machine. Will get some other pads later...
  16. Just buy some game special knee pads (those *** ones) and bastardize the hard shell from them... Can insert them into the pads through the opening in the back...
