It's a pretty common thing, dude. We see it here in Tokai forest all the time. Just because someone has " been riding here for 15 years " or "the trail like, suck, guy" or "i come before the guard gets here so I don't need to pay" They're all cut from the same cloth. And I hate to generalize, but the trend is that they all have high end bikes, and that seems to instil a sense of entitlement and outrage when they are not allowed to do something that is clarly wrong, but they believe that they can do it because of some deluded sense of self importance...

And it's 30% duty on full bikes, not 15%! :-)

You have no idea how close I was to pulling the trigger on a Revelation. Got it locally for a better price though. 2010 version, but still - dual air u turn 120/150mm Revelation TEAM (Same as RLT - Ti)

Hey Jacques, I ALMOST bought a revelation from them. Very decent prices indeed, and they are a well known UK retailer. Import taxes would be VAT + 10%, so add 15.4% to the total ZAR amount of the order (incl shipping) to get the amount you would have to pay to land it here. It's listed as Bike Spares / Parts which are a non-dutiable item. They just add 10% to the value when calculating VAT. Whole bikes are 30% (IIRC)

yeah, that is a difficult one. Saying that, though, good staff go a long way to making sure that a certain item is sourced for clients.

Unfortunately the direct model still relies on us hoomans in order to function. Bad staff = bad service. As simple as that.

That's fine... absolutely fine... But there have been some instances where you bring a wheel in for a rebuild and they charge x, whereas if you bring a wheel, hub and spokes in they charge x + 50% because "you didn't buy from them" BS if you ask me.

I suppose it comes down to whether the guys are service oriented, or looking to fleece the client for as much as they can. Service oriented - Hey - I've got these wheels and spokes - could you lace and true for me? Sure - here's our price for wheel building or: Do you have wheels I can buy through you? Sure - there you go, I'll just build them quickly for you, free of charge 'cos I made my profit off the sale of the part Shafting: Hey - I've got these wheels and spokes - could you lace and true for me? Sure - here's our price for wheel building - but you're going to pay an extra R 200 'cos we didn't make any profit off the sale of the wheels Or: Do you have wheels I can buy through you? Sure - there you go, I'll just build them quickly for you, but I have to charge you R 300 for that.
