  1. Tourist - if you're referring to the areas around Tokai (spaanschemat river road etc) and up / over Constantia Nek, then I agree - they are pik-donker! I wouldn't be able to see anything if not for a light. And when the lights are on, the beams just get soaked up like they're a bunch of nothing. In those cases, a flashing light is even more dangerous, 'cos in addition to blinding oncoming drivers (and substantially increasing your chances of becoming a bonnet-kebab) you'll be riding as if you're in a club and only seeing s a c es of the road ahead of you. Very dangerous...
  2. So true, dude... I still do it on my XC bike, but only because I know the track and where it goes and where the features are. And I know what I'm getting myself into. And then I do it on the DH bike! WooooHoo!
  3. And nothing gets me as irate as a flashing light does. Just wanna klap people who use them. If you want to draw attention to yourself, put some bar-end lights in your bars and a steady state light or 2 at the front. If you want to become the victim when you blind a driver with your flashing light, and he can't see where he's going, then that's your problem. Another darwinian approach to life.
  4. Nought bro, if he was that harsh then you have every right to be p1§§ed off with him... There's a 1 month handover process. Standard practice.
  5. Dude, I agree with you. But, if you're wishing the club would bring them into line, it's up to you to report it (as a concerned citizen) Trust me - they will take it further.
  6. Dude, phone the Cycle Lab contact for the club in the area that you're in. They try to keep their members in line, and have been known to throw out repeat offenders... They do try to take the whole single file thing quite seriously.
  7. Gee whiz - hope your friend heals up well, dude... Insofar as the guy who lives at Tokai (drives the white Isuzu) he has just finished taking care of tokai and has handed over to the new person in charge, so for all I know he may not have had any keys for the gate (though I doubt that) Still, if what you say is true, his response is far less than desirable and is not what you would have expected at all... Least of all when you have an injured mate up there! Just out of interest - when was the incedent? I know the guys at the entry gate are very understanding wrt injuries etc, and they often step up to help if it is serious... Healing vibes, bro...
  8. Hmmmmm... I'll have to see! Need to ride. Bike is all good to go. Will be getting my new access card today. Hmmmm...
  9. Yeah. I need to renew mine as well - last card expired in December, and have been meanign to renew it! Paying R 35 per is a bit of a change to just flashing a card! But I get what you say, Jimmy - the guys there knew me as well, and I didn't have to show my card...
  10. Water is coming - thanks to a recent sponsorship. Last time round, we had the use of a (sponsored) bobcat. That helped tremendously. We also had a 3T truck to help with ferrying clay up the hill (also sponsored) Moral of the story is that stuff is getting done, albeit slowly. With all the bureaucracy in place at the moment, we are looking at maintenance and revitalization instead of blazing new trails. And any / all approval comes slowly. With winter coming along soon, it heralds a new time for trail building and maintenance. This is because the best time to build is, in fact, when it is going to rain that night, or when it has just rained. I just hope we continue getting the turnout that we got last time round...
  11. Yeah. But for the moment, it's guys like Jimmy, Omega Man, PorS and so on that willingly volunteer to get the trails back into shape for the rest of them. I don't care that I don't get paid to maintain the trails. I just do it. Because I want to ride. And I care about the resource that we have there at Tokai. Yes - buttercups and fairytails. So shoot me... EDIT: not directed at you, ichnusa. Just ranting 'cos of the air of entitlement that seems to be infiltrating the masses, whilst they do fkall to contribute.
  12. Ja, dude, but then they shouldn't ride at all. They still wanna ride there, but they refuse to pay because the trails are bad? Hmm. It's like eating out at a restaurant, complaining about the food but finishing it anyway and still refusing to pay. It's just not cricket. EDIT: What sort of mentality is that? Refusing to pay for access to a place, but still willingly going there to ride, and, not only that, but willingly circumventing the control methods that SANPARKS / TMNP use...
  13. or, we could all stand by the side of the trail with our spades that r used to build the trails, and swing away at their front wheels when they come past. Doubt they'd try it on with you, me, Jimmy, Cap & PorS standing there.... A collective 500kg of spadewielding fanatics. Edit - And Mr Snappy Pants himself...Oh-Mega Man
  14. looks sweet, but I emulate the basic feelings regarding the direct mount. Seems like Shimano shirking their designs and making frame designers go either to them or SRAM.
  15. damn, dude. Not cool. They really don't realise the jeopardy they place the trails in, do they? Muppets, the lot of them.
  16. If it's 9 speed, then yes - you can use it...
  17. No worries mate - no need to. Napoleon Dynamite's little dance is for all of us...
  18. Looks like a good glove, Patches... It'd certainly have more support than that little Dischem number, being incorporated into a full-finger glove like it is...
  19. Damn. Jan, your avatar brings back memories. 'Twas mine about 2 avatars back...
  20. As far as I know, Acera is 8 speed... If so, then no - it won't work.
  21. Another selfless plug from the Crow... Somebody, buy his bike! Please! Then this thread can END!
  22. Now why did you have to do that, Tumbles? Mine just retreated for fear of reprisal...
  23. I'm actually disturbed that you know the web addresses for those events...
