Agreed that on 2hour rides you don't really need anything during the ride. If it's gonna be 2.5 - 3 hours and you plan on doing a really intense ride maybe take a banana or 1 energy drink but generally just water will probably be better(leave the gels etc for racing). I have read that sticking to natural sugar sources(banana) during training is good. I have heard about the whole Chocolate milk recovery drink thing, but I don't quite get it. Many people drink Steri Stumpies but these are low fat milk and contain a very small amount of protein. Explain?

For training, I will eat before my ride (breakfast, decently sized bowl of future life) and if it was a nice hard ride( or I feel that it was at least) I have a 100% whey protein shake and maybe some magnesium (just cause it makes me feel good ) I use a brand called Nutritech, super cheap Whey. Im sure someone could tell me it's crap but it def works for me(placebo or not!)

The organizers have said if they can find someone to swap with, they will allow it as both the Adventure and the Race are full for 2014.

Looking to buy a Winter jacket to keep my training hours up in the coming winter months. I am willing to spend a bit of extra money for a quality product that will last long. I think it should be wind proof and water resistant, I think water proof will get too hot in Cape Town. I will be using it with a undertop/insulation layer. What have you guys found works the best? The crux seems to find one that is not too hot, or too cold! I have a first ascent semi-water proof jacket that I can always put over the jacket if it's really wet, and if its really(really) wet I have an IDT Oh and it has to be sexy. Last winter I just used my FA jacket(the lumo yellow semi-waterproof one, don't know the name) with an jersey + underlayer and then arm warmers and thick gloves. But i'd like a nice fitting jersey, and this year I plan on riding earlier with more work commitments.

Where? I assumed Cherise and Ariane would be riding together with the big new prize purse for women at the epic.

We weren't overtaking any C riders in the last 5-10 km's... The bunch was just sitting in the other lane for no reason really. Attacks were going and guys were trying to shake wheels off by swerving left and right, and of course the bunch follows to hide from the (little) wind. The commissaire did warn us at least twice - he rode up next to us hooting like a mad man but the bunch didn't react at all.

I raced in CAT 1 and must say I agree with the DQ. At times something like 60% of the bunch was in the other lane, and there was no wind so i'm not quite sure why we were sitting there. At least there will be no points(entire CAT has been disqualified) and this Sunday will be a fresh start, and i'm sure we won't be going over the line!!

So cool. Nicely done Specialized and Sauser. Champs!
