  1. Hitch a coolbox to your fiets and put ice in your socks every 30km
  2. The windier the better. If you are racing this thing and climbing is not your strength the wind is going to be a big help. Bring it on. The SE is just getting into it's stride today and will hopefully hit peak hurricane by Sunday
  3. Breaking news : Noakes shamed in hotel pizza sting http://www.thegatsby.co.za/2013/02/26/noakes-bust-in-sordid-hotel-room-pizza-bender/
  4. I am stuck in my ways and have to say wing mirrors are the way to go, because if you hit the sweet spot they become portable, and can either be thrown into the car or very far away from it to buy you some time.
  5. I hate that, makes them almost impossible to wear. If no Lanyard there should at least be a little ribbon with a pin so you can line them up above your shirt pocket.
  6. I had a Porsche cut me up by pulling into the bus lane between the Oval and Brixton to skip traffic. I squeezed past him and gave his wing mirror a hearty smack, and at the next junction I hear this revving behind me, and the tool rams me from behind - with his porsche - into my bicycle. Chain fell off so unfortunately could not give chase as he high-tailed it out of there.
  7. Nobody is going to get away up Ou Kaaps if the wind is more than 20km/h SE.
  8. I rode SV in 2012 and our winning break of 2 was away 70km from top of OKW and finished in 2:23, made it by 18 seconds, and elite winning time was 2:18
  9. Bjarne Riis diet - ride 6 hours, 2 litres fizzy water, 2x sleeping tablets. Probably not very good for you, but then neither was any of the other stuff he was doing.
  10. If you're trying to lose weight, have some lean protein - whey or whatever you like - and minimal carbs / something low GI / low carb veggies, drink some fizzy water, then go to sleep.
  11. Yep, S2S are enjoying coaching the guy, his numbers and technical ability are ridiculous for someone so new to the sport. 6 mtb events done and won or podiumed nearly all of them.
  12. Matt Beers 10th SA rider, 16th overall. Just turned 20, 1st ever ultra-marathon and this can't be much more than his 5th ever mtb race.
  13. Erik Kleinhans 1st SA rider home, good result for him
  14. Huber takes it in a new course record of 4:47
  15. Fair enough losing to the Caveman when you are still 19 and have only been racing bicycles for about 9 months.
  16. Matt Beers is going to surprise a few people at this event.
  17. Gav I am shifting my focus to non-league events after such an enjoyable day on Sunday. I have asked PPA to move me back to W so I can get a better spread of the alphabet at each event.
  18. Yep, the dearly departed colonel smashed the Journey4Sight on Sunday and managed 5th overall. He is very excited about Vissershok on Saturday. His enthusiasm is inversely proportionate to mine.
  19. Ja, I saw the Vets time was slow as ****. SV was slow too at first, so we attacked and rode away. Why not try the same?
  20. Not sure what size you're after but this looks very good to me: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/75461-cannondale-flash-1-carbon-xl/ 25k asking price.
  21. Ok, looks like it was just a bit slow fetching the data - results are showing now
  22. That page is broken in Chrome, maybe other browsers too. No submit button showing on the form.
  23. about2time - as in we're about to release the results but haven't gotten round to it yet.
  24. Conti Gatorskin Sprinter. As an amateur cyclist you're probably not going to get a wheel or help from a team car, so get the tubbie that does not puncture.
  25. Never had an issue or complaint from anyone when riding up there. As a matter of interest, I noticed the other day that the Dido Valley Road climb next door is a couple hundred meters longer than Suikerbossie and about the same average gradient at 7%
