  1. Matt Beers: "Over the coming months, we have wind tunnel sessions and downhill echelon training on the cards, along with some prototype fairings we will be adding to our Epics. The whole team is super-pumped on the new format.” 🤣
  2. Lekker. Need me a blue pair. Would these be comfortable enuf for the occasional marathon distances as well? Like 3+ hrs in the saddle?
  3. Wait, the bike frames need to be designed specifically for this exact T-Type hangerless rear derailleur? Edit: No, looks like any bike designed with the Universal Derailleur Hangar that SRAM introduced in 2019 should work with this. Nice move SRAM, thinking ahead 4 years, so that (some) frames would be ready for this in the future.
  4. Aha! I think I've found the Canetsfontein climb. Its not on Strava segments, Trailforks etc. Only visible on the Global heatmap: It's at the top of the Obiekwa climb (which is already flipping high) ... I have no idea how you'd get down tho 😝 the map only shows a 1-way up
  5. Incredible. So inspirational to follow this. Well done to all that finish, and especially to Kevin and Abdullah. Brilliant
  6. I went and looked at the full results now. Wow! What a ride for Matt! The world tour pros in the lineup went deep! He left a bunch of them in the dust behind him. Some big names, including Lachlan Morton just behind him. Yet again, Matt Beers giving us Saffas something to be proud of
  7. I remember that one! Didn't that one start almost in the dark? Like 6:30 or something. We ended up only doing around 15km, if I recall. We missed the main Helderberg mountain climb and descent. We all got lost somewhere near Spier, and went over some train tracks to get back to the start.
  8. Thanks! But did you get results from this successfully? It's just giving me errors, no results. EDIT: nevermind! It was my company's firewall that was blocking it.
  9. Anybody know if there will be Results available?
  10. Yeah, what a mudfest. I had three peeps fall right in front of me, on the Marathon route. Good, fit cyclists struggling with the slippery switchbacks and fast rocky flat sections (stream crossing etc). I was so surprised to come around the corner at the finish line, also registering 48 kays (I took a wrong turn and had to double back). And how were those route markings? Shocking! Red arrows on blue background? On the cloudy day, with sunnies on 😎 to prevent mud in my eyes, it was nearly impossible to see the arrows until you were right on top of them 😝 But anyway I had a lekker time. It was tougher than expected, but I really enjoyed the single track along the route. I hope all those who fell are ok!
  11. I think this is a disappointing development, from a customer range perspective. It further entrenches the argument that cycling is becoming the sport of the wealthy, at the expense of the masses. Sure, you can argue that they've just "shifted the labels around", to make the new 105 Di2 equivalent to the old Ultegra mechanical, and that us peasants must now be happy to buy Tiagra (going to 12 speed next year?) or 11-speed 105 mechanical. I love my 105 mechanical disc road bike, but it sucks that when the time comes to get a new bike, 105 may well be out of range. At £1700, it will cost about R35k for the groupset alone, making OEM carbon bikes with 105 cost about R70k minimum? Currently, you can get a carbon 105 road bike from about R45k up, or alu 105 bike for R20k or so. From road.cc: "if there were any top-down decisions being made by Shimano here it could be that electronic groupsets are actually cheaper to make and easier to work with than mechanical; but that alone wouldn't have been nearly enough to take a massive gamble if the numbers didn't stack up." and: "Shimano binning mechanical shifting ... To some of you that won't be something to celebrate... but numbers will have been meticulously crunched before this decision was arrived at, and unfortunately you're probably in the far less lucrative minority." Great. 🤕
  12. Are you kidding? All he said was the fact that they didn't call / email him directly that he didn't make the team. That's on them. And then he said that it sucks that he was left out. It does. Nothing unusual there. And then some good luck for the team ✊ 🐺 What's career-limiting about this??
  13. I spoke to my advisor about this. He reckons that this only applied to flights booked for June. I booked for October, and apparently they haven't announced anything about refunds for July onwards ? Eish.
  14. What do you guys make of all these "Benefits" coming to Discovery Bank accounts? https://www.moneyweb.co.za/news/companies-and-deals/discovery-gives-vitality-members-two-big-reasons-to-open-an-account/ The more I read it, the more it sounds like they've shifted benefits that used to be on normal Vitality Health to the Bank... Flights discounts on Safair, SAA, BA etc.. I know we're waiting to hear how the Comair / Kulula mess unfolds and how Discovery will deal with ticket holders. But for now, regular Vitality doesn't give us local flight discounts at the moment? Pay-as-you-Gym sounds excellent for occasional users like me, at R75 - R100 per session, but again only with Disc Bank - Why?! Surely Vitality Health members should get some of this benefit. Sounds like they're now focusing 100% on cross-selling existing Disco clients into the Bank accounts, at the expense of existing loyal Vitality members. Whacha guys think?
  15. Hi guys, can you give an update on this? Trying to search online before heading to Rhodes mem / Table mountain aread for a ride. Is it still closed?
  16. Check out the Ravemen lights, available from a few places. I got the PR1600, cuz the PR1200 was out of stock @ Evobikes. It's been great so far, but I've only used it 2-3 times so far. Extremely well built, and bright, of course:
  17. I have both the Garmin Edge 130 (with heart rate belt) and Forerunner 55. Both give me almost identical heart rate averages and HR maxes. I used to think the watches were much less accurate, but seems they've improved a lot recently. This is with Road and Mountain biking. Lots of recommendations for the FR 45. The 55 is the newer version, and it's still going for R3000, while the 45 is often just under R3k. Almost identical though, with one or two extra features on the 55. I can highly recommend it. With the Forerunner watch vs the Edge bike comp, the main advantage is that I can also use it for running (obvs) and squash, or any other sport. And get daily steps Edit: Looks like it's gone up recently, the FR55 is now abour R3500. If that's a bit much, I think you'll be happy with the FR45.
  18. You think so? I think they look pretty serious. Maybe it's the blunt Blue and White colourway that isn't showing it in the best light. Let's try some green..
  19. This sounds fun 😄 I'll be there tomo morning. Hope my lights are working properly..
  20. Oh no man, this is terrible 😧 I really hope they get them back quickly! 🤞
  21. Lovely route, I didn't know this was open to the public. I'm looking forward to riding this soon.

  23. That's great for Smits - we get blown up there, making it feel like it's almost flat. Its the rest of Atlantic seaboard that becomes the bugger. Especially Ocean View to Noerdhoek, into the headwind.
