  1. None of them were 'owning the road' but it is impossible to pass them without crossing the solid center line, so basically everyone has to break the law to get past? Maybe it wasn't clear, but this is what I was wondering about. Or is it legal to cross the solid line when safe to do so?
  2. I knew this would come up but trucks do at least 30ks so ja not quite the same.
  3. not really sure what the solution is as I'm not a roadie, but I was driving up Rhodes drive from Kirstenbosch side to Constantia Neck and there were a few cyclists heading up. None of them were 'owning the road' but it is impossible to pass them without crossing the solid center line, so basically everyone has to break the law to get past? Also on a stunning CT day like we had over the weekend there is a constant stream of vehicles in both directions, so you're basically stuck doing 15km/h all the way to the circle.
  4. ja but some people drive like little richards and deserve the odd up-yours no matter how much time you have given yourself sorry can't find the light hearted don't take me too seriously font
  5. They should do this in SA. In Finland, speeding fines are linked to salary. The Finns run a “day fine” system that is calculated on the basis of an offender’s daily disposable income – generally their daily salary divided by two. The more a driver is over the speed limit, the greater the number of day fines they will receive. This has led to headline-grabbing fines when wealthy drivers have been caught driving very fast. In 2002, Anssi Vanjoki, a former Nokia director, was ordered to pay a fine of 116,000 euros ($103,600) after being caught driving 75km/h in a 50km/h zone on his motorbike. And in 2015, Finnish businessman Reima Kuisla was fined 54,000 euro ($62,000) for driving 22km/h over the 50km/h speed limit. Wealthy okes feel nothing for the law in this country. In my opinion they are worse than the taxis
  6. I live next to the common and at 5.00 am there are already a few people out and about so you wont be alone. I wouldn't run through the subways. Try and stick to Campground road and the suburban streets.
  7. Well seeing as it's almost even closer to Friday. That whole speed baseline to eat is your problem. The okes advocating proper food are riding for enjoyment the way riding should be done.
  8. personally I wouldn't buy a bike with no local support. Can you imagine the time-frame involved in a warranty claim? Sorry, I see jatho above mentioned the time issue.
  9. not that weird. Rennies are antacids and - the body makes lactic acid when it is low in the oxygen it needs to convert glucose into energy. Lactic acid buildup can result in muscle pain, cramps, and muscular fatigue. These symptoms are typical during strenuous exercise and are not usually anything to worry about as the liver breaks down any excess lactate.
  10. Rennies for cramps. Freedom Challenge tested.
  11. ja my comments are specifically directed at the Rondebosch / Newlands area. There are at least 10 schools within a 2 km radius = chaos
  12. I've always said, "assume everyone is an idiot, and you'll only be wrong 5% of the time"
  13. yup, my son rides as well. rain or shine and he enjoys it. parents need to stop babying their kids - thats why the traffic around schools is chaos. mommy or daddy can't let their little precious walk a couple of extra meters. they have to stop right outside the gate.
  14. I don't think that is really what that post was saying. which days of old are those? people were much more 'obedient' in the old days - what the authorities said was gospel. people nowadays question a lot more than before.
  15. well done. Tough year this year? That little ride is still on my radar.
  16. Love your recovery drink chocolatemilkshakessuck
  17. I knew there would be mud so only went down to the first stile and then back up again. But jees the corridor from Conters to Hoogies was super muddy as well.
  18. Slowbee, you're heading to New Zealand. Here's one for you
