  1. I have had good service from Chips Away in Centurion regarding small dents and scratches. But then again I have not had major fender-benders lately. I mostly hit dogs, cats and wild animals (especially in the Karoo) and the odd pre-school kid on a bike.
  2. Sheet, those roasties brings back painful memories! And here I am feeling sorry for myself having a few bruised ribs. Hope they heal fast, I am going to do some situps now.
  3. How on earth is it possible to break a 12-hour (world!) record with 7 hours to spare?
  4. Enough oohs and aahs. Let's get down to business. What does kuala taste like?
  5. Samma, can I send you some GPS co-ordinates for the missile launch?
  6. Guys like these operate inside a 'comfort zone'. Their services are priced in such a way that it seems to be a good deal, but the time, money and effort you have to expend on an attorney is normally more than the job was worth. Professional con man. You have to give him back some of his own medicine. I'll make sure that he loses a lot more than I lost.
  7. Just a heads up for Gauteng home owners, do not fall for this trap. I had my roof waterproofed and painted by this tjop (Leon Bester), cost me almost a full XTR groupset. I also received a nice 10 year warranty on workmanship, logoed with the Gauteng MBA. Which was the reason I chose him, catchy ad and guarantee. Six months down the line and the paint is coming off and my kitchen is a swimming pool. Attempts to get this guy to fix his unhandywork has been futile. He answers his phone, you can organise him to come out to your place, but he never pitches. This has happened about 5 times now, and I have lost patience and goodwill. Last night when I phoned him to hear his new story, he stated that he has decided that the warranty is not legal, so he does not need to fix anything. I have reported him to the Gauteng MBA and hellopeter, and will try and warn as many people as possible against this scam. He operates from Hartbeespoortdam area if I am not mistaken. I am in the process of getting his home address, then me and my friend JB (not our expert mechanic) will pay him a visit. Bubba normally pisses his pants when JB arrives.
  8. Regular stretching of the hamstrings, buttocks, hip flexors and quads works for me. But it can be a result of many other factors as well. I suggest you make a list of possibile remedies, pick one and stick with it for 2 weeks, if things do not get better move on to the next one.
  9. No. Please give us the details. I'm learning stuff here... it's the only way to find out if a johnny gets broken before it's too late. one of you is gonna scream and go off looking for a cold water tap?at a rapid pace Does it have to be deep heat' date=' or could I substitute it with Stan's or slime?[/quote'] wouldn't have the same effect?has to be alarming rather than prophylactic. Maybe I could use a mixture. When you hear/feel the pssft-pssft-pssft it is kind of reassuring because you know if you keep going it is going to seal again and you do not have to stop and get off your ride there and then. What's the cricket doing? Oh, sorry, hijack on/off.
  10. I saw the hustler the other day. It was a story about a pool table, a stick, chicks and some balls, but no Paul Newman.

  13. My training wheels = Mavic Crossland (with worn bearings and free-hub) + Slime ultra tubes + half bottle slime + Kenda SB8. Front wheel = 2.6kg, rear = 2.8kg. And I still get flats...
  14. Never even thought of that one before. Will give it a try tonight.
  15. If you ride Babba's its best to go with a solid rubber wheel.
  16. XT - lightest, UST, bearing and freehub spares readily available. Unlike Mavic..
  17. Beware! The Ides of March! Beware! ave' date=' bigguy![/quote'] Et tu, HR?
  18. Beware! The Ides of March! Beware!
  19. Sure. there is about 500m of tar. Groenies sounds nice, haven't been there for a while.
  20. Depending on how much you ride, I would recommend checking at least once a month. If you rock the wheel and can hear the liquid inside, you are good to go, otherwise top up with a few scoops through the removable valve. I clean the inside of the rim and tire and fill with fresh sealant every three months regardless. Some people I know do this every week.
  21. Maybe it's just me, but Slime seems to work better inside a tube than inside a tire. It seems to dry out fairly quickly, and it does not seem to spread around efficiently to plug a hole as quickly as Stan's does. It will eventually seal the hole, but only after you have exercised your arm a few times. RodTi, I agree with Dirtbreath. Clean and rub some soap on the tire bead to make it seat easier. It's a bit of effort but should not take too long. BigGuy2009-01-22 02:11:57

    Helmet!

I read that Downhill World Champ Rachel Atherton decided to train without a helmet after the strap broke, and guess what happened? Very lucky to be alive still. http://www.cyclingnews.com/mtb.php?id=news/2009/jan09/jan22mtbnews

She is just visiting her mother! Buy some meals from Woolies, you will be OK!
  24. I have Juicy 5's (2007) on my hardtail. I use Avid metal pads. I have different sets of wheels, with different rotors on each, and the squealing is normally due to pad glaze. I have never experienced the shudder. Sanding the pads does help for the noise, I cannot say for sure if the braking performance is affected when the pads are glazed. Things to also check might be: The frame rear stays for damage, maybe bent or cracked from a crash (hope not) The rear dropouts, are they solid? The skewer or whatever you use to tighten the wheel The hub, is it sound? Clean the rear rotor with 95% alcohol. The rotor may be contaminated with oils from your hands or chain lube. Spraying the cassette with lube is not a good idea, because some of the lube ends up on the rotors.
  25. Hutchinson UST's are now R812.
