  8. I know the local guys ride the canal routes, but do not have any info more than that
  9. Question relating to trail shoes. I switched from new balance to Hoka's. I now roll an ankle in almost every race, and I am now starting to think it might be the shoes fault. Anyone had similar experience? Maybe a lower heel to toe drop shoe will be more stable?
  10. I Also did the 22K trailrun Was a good route, mix between fast sections, and tough techicall sections was well balanced. managed to come in at 2:02
  11. A lot of gravel roads that I know from Thabazimbi side. if you look from your side to get onto rankens pass then up to the road to Shakawe game reserve,. that road is beautifull. I normaly did this from Thabazimbi up the bakkerspas. Rankens pass is just on the other side the the mountain range
  12. I took the plunge a month ago and got myself a coach. not face to face coach, just a simple training plan that is reviewed every 3 weeks. Aim is to do SA's cross country in September. I am 40-44, so we run 8km my first league race is in two weeks. As a prep, I had to race Voortrekker monument Vasbyt 10km last weekend. it is a crazy hard route, mostly trails, and over 10km, elevation is 260m. in one month, my speed is up, strength on the climbs are up. Managed to finish 10th overall. best R450 I spent this month
  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXaMC8G5Twc Movie about the creator of the Delorean..
  14. Yes, the Japanese are very reserved and quiet, not vibey and noisy like SAFAS. in the starting shutes its really quiet, and everyone minding their own business However, I did a trailrun in my first year in the north of Japan, that was absolutely fantastic.. below is a article I wrote on it for a blog http://trailrunner.co.za/2017/08/jolling-in-japan-storm-troopers-and-mud-a-trail-run-in-niigata/
  15. Whinge?? you know what, you are right actually.. At the time I was seriously homesick after two years in Japan and the race itself/crap weather was just the final straw, I just wanted to GTFO. But while I was there I did a few marathons in Japan and also in Hongkong, and Tokyo for me personally did not live up to the hype. If I compare Tokyo, Fuji and Yokohama, which is three of their flagship events, it for instance does not come close to example Oceans. Right from the whole experience starting from the expo, build up and the race vibe itself, all of them was for me a bit of a disappoint to me .
  16. I recently ran the Tokyo Marathon. What a disappointment.... I lived in Japan for 2 years, and managed to snag an entry out of a lottery of almost 400k people, total field selected was around 38k. Race takes place in start of autumn, but the day of the race was crap weather. Rainy, windy, cold. Waited in the starting blocks for 40 minutes in the cold with full winter gear, windy also with non stop soft rain. I pittied the Europeans that came there thinking it would be warm, dressed in summer running gear. saw a lot of people with a light purple shading from the cold. after the start gun went it took me 23 minutes to cross the start and then could only run freely from 16km mark. Then the real rain started coming down... after the finish I was so cold I could not even take my watch of my arm. Moer of a hype, but to be honest not worth the money if it is a marathon on your list. Running through Tokyo is interesting of course, but its basically a figure 8 out and back. On the same day, the Marakele marathon was held in Thabazimbi, my home town, would much rather have done that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK_HcpjHKDA Will go there next year as I am now back in SA
  17. I did CC last at school, now in 40-44 category, so looking forward to this. doing the 8k
  18. Not really giving up, am now putting up electric fencing this week. I am deducting it of all future urges I get to pay parking attendants, beggars, sponsor list, etc, etc..
  19. They are stealing the alarm beams from the outside walls. Clubview Centurion Now two weekends In a row, we have had fencejumpers stealing the security beams of the walls. One morning around 9am, one evening 8:30 pm they do not care if your beams are on or not. They steal them in seconds. I now have to put electric fencing on top of my 8ft walls. They scale those walls like nothing. each beam is including fitment 3k, and I now have to fit a burglar proof bracket to prevent them from stealing in future. Apparently there are a huge 2nd hand market for these beams. I give up..
  20. For a laugh go to www.419eater.com
  21. I did Tokyo Marathon earlier this year. we were more than 30k to start. Even with Japanese efficiency it took me 23 minutes to cross the start
  22. There is more traffic on this thread than the Trailhub website since it was launched. Pity that www.trailhub.co.za is basically not as popular at the bikehub.
