Alexander Kristoff outsprints Peter Sagan in stage 5. Once again Goss fails in the sprint and his South African lead out man Impey takes 10th. More importantly though, Tejay van Garderen is up to 9th in the GC, just 1:39 behind the yellow jersey holder Mathias Frank. The toughest mountain stage comes on Saturday where the GC could be decided.
  4. Nice videos! Surely to hit 90+ you have to be drafting a tandem though?
  5. It's indeed crazy! I know a few basics in Spanish so that I can order off a menu and make light conversation, in Catalunya I can't even order a cheese and ham sandwich. It's another world! Sorry all for straying from the topic, it's just that all the answers we required in the "Froome and the Sky borg vs the rest" were answered emphatically during the Criterium du Dauphine. I only see one winner come late July in Le Tour.
  6. Agreed! I once saw a spray painted graffiti across a wall in a Catalan villiage (in English) "Catalunya is not in Spain!!!"
  7. Far less technical that both Groenkloof and Rietvlei.
  8. Interesting... Any chance someone could post the top 50 not dopers? I assume none are listed above?

Also I know this might be hard to believe, BUT... Jens Voigt was is the breakaway yesterday!!! He was only caught while on a solo attack with just under 2km to go. The peloton were helped by the fact that both Voigt and his breakaway partner Robert Vrečer had to stop for a level crossing within the last 10km.

So stage 4 was indeed one for the sprinters with Arnaud Démare of FDG out-sprinting Matthew Goss, Tyler Farrar and John Degenkolb. Peter Sagan was 7th. I seriously (and somewhat unbiasedly) think Orica GreenEDGE should back Impey instead of Goss for a few stages in Le Tour. Goss seems a specialist second or third placed finisher.
  11. Has anyone made mention yet about how cr@p disk brakes look on a road bike?
  12. So what do you guys recon should be the priorities for wheels? Weight, Aero or looks? Personally I would go with weight as let's be honest, unless you one for going on the attack and TTing (or falling out the back of the peloton), aero wheels aren't going to make a major improvement.
  13. The more I read about this South African brand, the more I think that they are the way to go when it comes to value for money. They also have Crest wheels which are far better/lighter than other brands OEM wheels.

So today is a super flat sprinters stage. Another one for Peter Sagan or could our boy Daryl Impey perhaps have a go on this one?

I just love see a Cannondale cross the line first... Good performance!
  18. This must be a misunderstanding, surely a pro cyclist wouldn't cheat!!!
  19. YES! I'd love to see a statistic on how many breakaways successfully stayed away in the non-race radio days compared to nowadays. Isn't there a rule that riders aren't allowed radios in the Olympics? That could have accounted for why team GB miscalculated the breakaways lead and blew it for Cav in London.
  20. Congrats to both of you guys!!! I saw Slowpoke sweating like a pig a cow before the start of the final stage. HECTIC!
  21. The best way to get rid of cramp is to train more and get fitter. Supplements like Slomag and USNs anti cramp seem to assist with prevention of this nasty occurrence as well.
  22. Okay so I see there is no topic on this world tour race that began on Sunday in Switzerland. There are big names on show including Sagan, Cancellara, Visconti, Costa, Schleck, Voigt, Boonen, Hesjedal, Pinot, Gilbert, Van Garderen and our very own Impey. The favourates must surely be Van Garderen and Hesjedal. Stage 1 was an Individual TT / Prologue that was won by Cameron Meyer the Aussie from Orica-GreenEDGE. Stage 2, stage two was a mountainous stage won by Bauke Mollema the Dutch rider from Team Blanco. Stage 3 is also fairly "bumpy" (an intermediate stage). Perhaps one for the breakaway but with the overall time gaps being rather small there is a good chance the peloton won't let any breakaways get too far up the road. The current GC is as follows: 1 Cameron Meyer (AUS) - Orica-GreenEDGE 2 Ryder Hesjedal (CAN) - Garmin-Sharp + 3" 3 Mathias Frank (SUI) - BMC + 5" 4 Giovanni Visconti (ITA) - Movistar + 12" 5 Thibaut Pinot (FRA) - FDJ + 16"
  23. A guy dressed in a cow suit is totally except from any wheel sucking rants!
  24. Shame really sad about the death of a marshal. It occurred after the race when he was run over by a mobile crane while they were moving Gutierrez's Sauber.
  25. Very good race, thoroughly enjoyed it. I must add though I've never worked so hard on the front before, partly due to the wind and partly due to the fact that there were so few riders willing to help out. Some guys literally braked when they reached the front of a pack rather than doing 20 seconds of work/wind battle. Ahh well, wheel suckers
