  1. The focus of the discussion around points changes is in the wrong area. Each member can get a maximum of 30,000 points a year for exercise, up from 15,000 base and 15,000 bonus points in the past. Logically I would assume Discovery would want approximately 75% of their members to achieve this target. It's reasonable that to remain healthy you should do about 5 hours exercise a week. Most of us have time constraints so it's safe to assume this is 3 or 4 workouts a week. 30,000 / 4 / 52 gives a target of 144 points a workout. The problem comes in with the 3,000, 1,500 and 600 points allocation. But the points status clearly did not work, so Active Rewards introduced. Again, the issue is not the allocation of the 100 points per workout but the really silly 3,000, 1,500 and 600 points allocation. What is healthier for you long term? a 3,000 point ride once a week or month or 4 workouts of 45 to 90 minutes a week?
  2. I'm having an issue in NetFlix over unotelly where it shows series are available nut when I try watch on the SmartTV I get a "Sorry can't load, try later" gfys message. So to the PC, error 7031-1111 which is using DNS server as not in US. Anyone beat this? With this Netflix is actually useless to me. No such problems on Hulu.
  3. Not so. In our group the leg lifters who have been logging lots of rides with big time have all gone up 100 points a week. The others who have given just the minimum data of 1 ride for 300 points have stayed at 300.
  4. I can understand Discovery rewarding activities through their partners that charge a fee to participate. After all it is a business for both Discovery and the partner, ParkRun requires a membership, as does the gym. It's us cheapskates doing lot's of exercise and getting rewards without paying fees to partners that is the problem in the business model.
  5. Yes, you are right. Reality is the system is stupidly skewed towards 80% workouts with no recognition of 70% endurance. So I report what earns me and my mates a coffee. No more, no less. Today I did my first 90+ minute spin since my accident. I ran my Garmin from when I was warm for 35 minutes at 80%+ of TMHR (Theoretical aged based) and switched it off for my 300 points. Unusually the 90 minute workout also exceeded 80% of TMHR and I would have got 600 points but had it been 3 beats lower over 90 minutes I would have got 100 points. My Tacx recording is no longer acceptable despite having all the data I need so I have to load onto GC using a Garmin. Which does not record power. Am I manipulating? Yes. Am I claiming points for work not done? No. But at 98,950 points for the year it's all about playing the game and coffee, not points.
  6. Two in place since April 2. Miraculously the one linked to Disco only logs the activity to achieve target. The other remains linked to Strava and is used to monitor my training. Silly really. Almost embarrassing to admit.
  7. Unless it's recorded on a Garmin or Polar it won't count on Disco, even if recorded on the IDT system. I have the same problem with Tacx. Syncing from wherever to GC via Tapiriik is now a waste of time if you are doing it to get it onto GC to get Disco points, that door closed on April 2. The only way to get Disco points is to use the correct device and load it onto Garmin or Polar. Although, to be honest, I have not tried to load a manual workout onto Polar since Disco started accepting Garmin for exercise a while ago, it was possible to load Garmin onto Polar with some ballache to get 100 points. If I wasn't maxed out on points for 2016 maybe I would try that. Will have to look for my notes.
  8. Glad I canned them. In the 2 weeks since I've better quality and only when I want to. And I'm definitely not falling for their Showmax ripoff.
  9. http://mybroadband.co.za/news/internet/161750-multichoice-and-safact-nail-pirate-tv-box-seller-in-south-africa.html MultiChoice and SAFACT nail pirate TV box seller in South AfricaJacque Hilbert from AVSupply has pleaded guilty to charges relating to the distribution of IPTV boxes that facilitate piracy. The first successful criminal case against a distributor of Internet TV boxes that facilitate piracy has concluded, the Southern African Federation Against Copyright Theft (SAFACT) has announced. Jacque Hilbert from AVSupply pleaded guilty to charges relating to selling the media boxes when he appeared in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Court on 31 March. MultiChoice and SAFACT took Hilbert and his wife to court after a MultiChoice employee spotted a DroidTV Box MXIII for sale on their website for R1,500, AVSupply.co.za The TV box ships with software that allows users to illegally download copyrighted content. The MultiChoice employee reportedly bought a TV box from Tracy Hilbert, after which charges were brought against the couple. Jacque Hilbert pleaded guilty on Section 86(4) of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, said SAFACT. The Act criminalizes the use of a device or computer program to overcome security measures designed to protect data, or prevent access to data. SAFACT said Hilbert was convicted and sentenced to a fine of R20,000. The sentence was suspended for five years on condition that he is not convicted of contravening the provisions of section 86 of the ECT Act again. “All the devices that were seized were forfeited to the state and will be destroyed. The value of the confiscated items is estimated at approximately R80,000,” said SAFACT. SAFACT Managing Director Jacques Allers said the fight against piracy in South Africa will go on, and “several more cases are being investigated and several more are in the pipeline”. “We can only hope that this conviction will serve its purpose to deter others from this or similar crimes relating to the creative and entertainment industries,” said Allers.
  10. Imagine entering an IronMan to get Vitality points....and then only getting 300. Lol. Surely by the time you do your IronMan you have no points left of your 30,000 any way?
  11. 220 less age has been used since polar started the whole train by heart rate bandwagon years ago. There has been plenty written on the most appropriate method since. As most people with a heart rate monitor are unable to use it to get an accurate maximum by going hard until they cannot go any more, see Jesus or puke it's understandable that someone has created a formula. I ride with a dozen guys regularly and at least 9 of them have no idea what their maximum is. But equally, realistically how can you expect every ## year old man or woman to have exactly the same maximum heart rate? So actuaries have used most likely scenarios in their calculations since the abacus was invented, what is so hard to understand about this. Discovery have clearly stated that "this is how we do it" from the old days of the Polar only policy? Why do we keep bringing this issue up? Train how you want to but accept that if you want to play in the Discovery game you play by their rules. It's no different to being a day late with your credit card payment and being charged interest from day 1 on your purchases. Or the fact we all pay the same medical aid premium no matter how healthy or otherwise we are? Repeating the same gripe ad nauseam in a social forum smacks of lack of respect to other users or stupidity. Or both.
  12. Hopefully I would have recovered by the time you go social to join you Guy.
  13. Which is why we regularly have doping threads here at the hub. Just look at the Brandon Stewart one, last time I looked it was 68 pages. And the guy who never doped and won R100k on Swartburg Pass. He never doped because some old koot threatened to sue anyone who said he did,
  14. Has anyone taken their ball and gone home? How many "loyal client base" have cancelled their membership of Discovery and gone to one of the other medical aid / life insurance providers? I would hazard a guess that Discovery net gain of customers is still massive because they are offering a great all round product. By our nature we moan A LOT, but very few of us actually do anything about it by taking our money elsewhere. For me the weekly smoothie is just something I give to my kids, the value of being Diamond is the 35% I get off airfares, the 50% of my life insurance premiums I get back every 5 years, the 20% or 25% I get off consumer goods at certain stores. What is forgotten by almost all is what I posted some time ago: Up until December 31 2015 I received 100 points a ride with a bonus allocation of 50 if I did something I had no idea about. No matter the distance or time or effort. I could manually notify them of a race and get a few thousand points. My exercise maximum per annum was 15,000. So I HAD to do costly assessments to get to 90,000 points. From Jan 1 2016 and then April 2 2016 I can earn 30,000 points from exercise as can each member of my family. I don't need to do all the other stuff I had to pay for in previous years. And I get a minimum of 100 points a session but realistically 300 as 30 minutes at 80% of age based HR is hardly a workout. 600 in my norm. I'm happy. So rather than clutter up this valuable thread with all this bitching and moaning that is not going to change a thing at Discovery, either embrace the programme or take you ball and go play in another providers yard.
  15. I'm astounded his unnamed pharmacist mate hasn't shown him how to get away with not using a Garmin but convincing Discovery that he is to get his full points allocation for his rides.
  16. Everything you need to know can be found by buying wheelpro wheel building book. If you want to build wheels then this guide is outstanding and well worth the 9 quid.
  17. Perfect bike for this type of event: Shameless plug for an advert for a gravel bike
  18. 93km on tar road, 3 sections of gravel covering 71km. That's not 6:30 to 7 hours of riding. More like 5 hours.
  19. It would appear that from April 2 Vitality do not pick up GC files that have been loaded via Tapiriik if not from a Garmin device, and even then I cannot be certain it will pick up a Garmin device workout if not loaded natively. So now I have 2 GC profiles. Old one to keep GC and Strava in sync where I load to the site of my choice and sync happens as in the past. New GC profile for my active rewards workouts that are recorded purely to get points and form part of a normal workout.
  20. Any tips on how to get past the US only zip code on credit card or US only paypal account on signup to Hulu?
  21. This is so funny, love it. I don't do apple, smoothies nor coffee so I undo my hard work by having a hot chocolate I don't want or need? But like you, I make sure my tacx workouts hit as it's principle. And half a workout gets more points than the actual full workout! All so stupid after activity points maxed out before end Jan.
  22. After 15 and a bit years I have pulled the plug. Did an experiment this month in prime time to see if there was ANYTHING I or my kids wanted to watch. That was not a repeat. Found plenty on the streams and NetFlix, but only one show, yes one show on DSTV in PRIME TIME. FWIW, Death Race ran for the 823rd time on 106.
  23. If on an Android device download Edgescope and never use your PC to upload again. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/143408-edgescope-load-and-view-your-ride-from-garmin-edge-gps-on-smartphone/?hl=edgescope
