  1. WTB High Tail is First (Yep) 650B Mountain Bike Saddle, Other New Models http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/WTB-Volt-Rocket-High-Tail-MTB-saddles.gif After releasing a wealth of new tires for mountain biking and gravel riding, WTB’s introduced what could arguably be the first “650B” mountain bike saddle. Shown on the left, the design is intended to offer better clearance off the rear tire when long travel bikes have blown through their travel. With the larger diameter of 27.5″ tires over 26″, tires hitting the saddle were apparently limiting frame design: Pivot founder Chris Cocalis: “It quickly became apparent that we weren’t going to be able to use the geometry we wanted to use with a conventional saddle on our upcoming 27.5″ carbon downhill bike. We wanted to maintain the same travel, chainstay length and rider positioning as on our current 26″ Phoenix DH bike and this presented an overall clearance challenge with current seat and rail profiles. Something had to give, so we contacted WTB with the idea of a saddle to accommodate the rising popularity of the 27.5″ full suspension market.” While the High Tail is obviously aimed at the downhill and aggressive enduro/trail crowd, the range topper is an XC-weight carbon version ($249.95). A Titanium–railed Team level and and Cromoly Pro option will retail for $159.95 and $119.95, respectively. Expect those to hit stores in September. Dimensions are 128mm x 255mm. The other two are the new carbon railed version of the Volt (top, right) and Rocket V (bottom). Both will retail for $249.95. Both lines will also get more width options across multiple price points, adding to the original 135mm x 255mm sizes. From the PR: “We’re excited for elite level carbon options as well as additional width availability for the Volt and Rocket V saddles,” stated WTB’s Director of Sales, Gary Gleason. “They are incredibly popular sellers for us, it’s empowering from a sales side to know that the Volt and Rocket will broaden their reach through expanded fit, sizing, and price points.” Rocket V and Volt Carbon saddles, along with 142 and 150 widths, are expected to become available starting in September as well. Rocket V and Volt pricing will follow WTB’s traditional saddle price structure, with satin steel-railed Comp saddles starting at $39.95 USD, followed by $59.95 Cromoly-railed Race saddles, $89.95 Pro options utilizing DNA padding, and $129.95 Team saddles featuring Titanium rails.
  2. With the disappearance of sports-livez.com what is the best source for streaming now?
  3. And it's own live HD coverage from StupidSport. Rugby and more Rugby but no early classics.
  4. Never assume intellect. That way you can only be pleasantly surprised?
  5. As far as the PPA goes, anyone banned will not receive a number and their chip will be flagged so it will be known they are riding a timed event. In addition, marshals will be aware and are pretty observant. In addition, the cycling community does have responsibility to flag the guys should they ignore the ban. Yes, they may do the odd ride but not the "big" rides and without results.
  6. PPA RIDE FOR YOUR LIFE AWARENESS RIDE Saturday 8 March 2014 06h45 VENUE: Maiden's Cove, Camps Bay Join us on Saturday morning for the PPA Ride for Your Life, an awareness ride to focus attention on cyclists' safety. There will also be a moment's silence to commemorate cyclists who have lost their lives on the roads in the past year. For maximum impact, we need as many cyclists to attend as possible, so we urge you to support this initiative. We appeal to all cyclists to show your support for the safe cycling campaign by wearing your PPA "1.5m" safe cycling jersey for this ride. Coffee will be on sale at Maiden's Cove from 06h30, with the ride starting at 07h00. Safe cycling jerseys will be on sale at the venue from 06h15-09h30. The jerseys cost only R200 each, as, in the interest of safe cycling, PPA is subsidising each jersey by R100. There is no fixed route: The furthest turning point is the lookout point on Chapman's Peak, but you can turn around sooner, provided it is safe to do so. You are also welcome to simply ride along with the group for a short while as part of your pre-Cycle Tour leg loosener and then continue along your own route (but please still wear your safe cycling jersey). ThinkBike marshals and traffic officers will assist en route, but there are no route markers and limited point marshals. Back at the venue, breakfast rolls, coffee and pancakes will be on sale until 09h30. As this is a safety awareness ride, we urge all cyclists to ride in a responsible manner, keeping well left of the median line, and to obey all traffic rules and stop at red robots and stop streets. No helmet, no ride. There will be no timing or medals for this ride. PARKING: There is limited parking available at Maiden's Cove. Please note that NO parking is available at the Glen Country Club. There is parking available near Clifton 4th Beach, alongside the road, near Camps Bay High School, and in Camps Bay. We also recommend that cyclists park in Sea Point or even Hout Bay and cycle through to the start. CYCLISTS STAY ALIVE AT 1.5m
  7. That's why they push their bikes. It also makes the amount of work last the day.
  8. Is this how DP used to get delivered in your neck of the woods? Here they all own BMWs.
  9. You need to ask? Really hard when people use big words in long sentences?
  10. Oh good, please PM me your contact details so we can call you as a witness to give evidence when this matter reaches our disciplinary committee shortly.
  11. Unless you go for a lobotomy I doubt you'll figure it out.
  12. Not only illegal but extremely stupid to do too, on the road. And for the self proclaimed REAL cyclists amongst us, stupid there too, A real Brain Dead exercise.
  13. I have it on good authority that legal fees will not be a problem he will have to face to get justice. The same goes for the vehicle owner.
  14. You have the right to ride where you feel safe, and any vehicle behind you is breaking the law if they pass you within 1m of your outmost extremity. Here is the actual wording: 3. (1) A cyclist riding on a public road must— (a) if the road has a pedal cycle lane, ride only in the pedal cycle lane and may not ride on any other portion of a public road except when crossing the road; or (b) if there is no pedal cycle lane, ride— (i) to the left of the left edge of the roadway; or (ii) on the roadway, keeping as close as practicable to the left edge of the roadway. (2) When riding on a public road, a cyclist must— (a) give conspicuous driving signals as contemplated in regulation 300 and Part II of Chapter X of the National Regulations; and (b) stop in the circumstances contemplated in regulation 307 of the National Regulations. (3) A person may not ride a pedal cycle on a public road— (a) on the right-hand side of a motor vehicle proceeding in the same direction, except when passing that motor vehicle or turning right at an intersection; (b) abreast of another cyclist proceeding in the same direction, except when passing that cyclist; © while wearing a headset, headphones or any listening device other than a hearing aid; or (d) while carrying another person on the pedal cycle, unless that pedal cycle is specifically equipped to carry more than one person. (4) A cyclist must exercise due care while— (a) passing a motor vehicle or turning right in the circumstances described in subregulation (3)(a); or (b) passing another cyclist in the circumstances described in subregulation (3)(b). 20 November 2013 Province of the Western Cape: Provincial Gazette Extraordinary 7194 5
  15. How long have you been here? And you still ask? C'mon Dangle, we all know you are cleverer than to ask rhetorical questions on the Hub

  17. I've posted a number of responses, starting very early on page 1. And I guess if you read them you can sense my outrage. Officially PPA has required the clubs to make written statements by lunch time tomorrow before handing it to the PPA disciplinary committee for a decision. And I believe there will be a response from the clubs as they do operate within the PPA framework. I'll post more when it happens, rather than preempt due process.
  18. So we have become so judgmental now the we know better what is right for others and what they can call themselves?
  19. Come on 'Dale, I cannot think of any event where this behavior is justified in the civilised world. Don't try justify this disgusting, pathetic and cowardly act. My group passed these guys on Sunday, well before this event and they most certainly were not riding in a considerate and orderly manner, even then. Luckily they were much slower than us so we didn't see them again.
  20. From the Cycle Tour website: The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust condemn in the strongest possible terms the incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. The kind of behavior displayed is totally unacceptable. The Trust will be working together with the Pedal Power Association to identify those involved, following which the names will be forwarded to the authorities for a formal investigation, the outcome of which will determine the consequences for those involved. I will repeat my post on page 1 that these thugs deserve no place in our sport, no matter what provocation they will claim.
  21. How to f*ck it up for all cyclists. So sad to see these idiots behave like this. There is no place for this behaviour in our sport.
  22. News just in, after a request from Western Cape Cycling PPA has provided the funding to ensure that the WP Track Championships go ahead as scheduled on 15 and 16 March this year. As William Newman, President, Cycling South Africa says "Just another example of what PPA does for our sport."
  23. Ja, ever since someone got heavy with someone for getting heavy with a guy who jumped on a bakkie trying to get away after doing some bad stuff. I guess the toothless wonder who got donnered by our hero has just got out of choekie.
  24. You forget calendar fees, day licence or annual licence fees paid by the rider and this R6 tax. So in all, having an event sanctioned by CSA adds costs to the entry fee for EVERY participant although only a few, ie the pros, benefit from having a CSA presence. At a typical non league funride with 2,000 participants, the extra costs for the organiser for absolutely no benefit is thousands and thousands of rondts. The court found that CSA has no right to insist on the organisers paying this tax. Even the UCI has suspended their stupid rule about sanctioned events.
  25. The seamless model could work for CLUB riders, however what CSA tried to do was tax EVERY rider who went to an event. And you agree with this. The poor organiser has to pay CSA thousands to be able to run the event resulting in increases entry fees which lead to moaning about price increases and often drop off in numbers. Cycling became the only sport taxed in this way. Could you imagine a rugby or soccer player having to PAY SARU to run onto the pitch. PPA objected to this tax for recreational riders, the court agreed. Out of interest, or not, PPA subsidizes every funride that records riders times to the tune of R20k on average. This is deemed to be a benefit offered to members of the PPA in return for their loyalty.
