  1. As a triangle with a rear clamping point (the axle) there will always when you remove one part. The reason Syntace invented the 142x12 rear axle was to reduce the rear movement as much as is possible. The real test of play is with everything mounted, can you move the rear axle sideways?
  2. Make two decent products IMNSHO: The double seatpost clamp where you have 2 diameters and two clamps, one on the post and one on the frame. The rear mount seatpost bottle cage mount, although the Ryder set is half the price. And the local agent is a nightmare. They make nothing else that you can buy better quality for less money from others.
  3. I would not open a Lefty unless you have the special tools required as you will not be able to put it back together without them.
  4. Lovely thread. 3 gents with an axe to grind against PPA as PPA won't fund their version of cycling utopia where many are taxed for a few to benefit, through either being sent to Worlds or through prize money in league races. And only 1 of these 3 has bothered to sit down and draft a discussion paper that might add value to the process when PPA sits down and works out how best to continue to boost the cycling. In the mean time, PPA's biggest single expense is the ride safe campaign, Stay Alive at one point five. Only an imbecile would argue that improving the safety for ALL cyclists on our roads is not a worthy goal for a voluntary organisation representing recreational cyclists. PPA constitution states at paragraph 3: “The main purpose and object of the association is to promote cycling and the interests of cyclists. Without limiting the generality of the aforegoing, the association shall have the following ancillary objectives: (a) to be a representative body for the furtherance of the interests of cyclists; (b) to promote cycling as a recreational activity, a sport and as a means of transportation; © to improve conditions for cyclists with particular regard to their safety; (d) to arrange and organise cycle tours, fun rides and outings; (e) to co-ordinate cycle tours, fun rides and outings organised by other bodies and to assist them in their efforts; (f) to establish contact and liaise with and where appropriate affiliate with other organisations having similar or alike interests and objectives.“ If you would like the funding of pro cycling, sending riders to worlds or big increases in prize money, I suggest you get the PPA through general meeting attendance of a majority of the in excess of 20,000 members to change the constitution to suit yourselves. A bit like CSA did. But as it stands right now, PPA is not permitted to spend members funds on the select few.
  5. Too right, the traveling and entertainment falls under the executive committee expenses section. In other words for those hard of understanding the facts FOR THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS jollies.
  6. Another fact overlooked by most commentators, CSA spent R681k on travel and entertainment in 2012, the PPA fees paid to CSA in the last year of full membership was R612K
  7. This post is rubbish and shows a total lack of understanding of the issues. The PPA was a member of CSA,this membership protected in the CSA constitution. CSA chose to remove the PPA and ALL their agreed rights from the constitution but expected PPA to continue funding CSA through levies and taxes on PPA events. The court agreed that CSA should not have done this. Fortunately with the removal of Fat Pat at UCI this sort of arrogance in the sport seems to be being dismantled. Hence the suspension of rule 1.2.09.
  8. Actually every recreational cyclist in the country is a winner as CSA can no longer demand licence fees from riders AND charge the organiser a fee for approving the event.
  9. Pros reckon your best performances come after a serious bonk so you'll be in good shape for the world champs in 3 weeks.
  10. Finally mounted on my carbon 50mm clinchers laced to Chris King R45 hubs. No more tubes...
  11. A trick for knowing with CRC is that if the local VAT on your purchase is less than R500 it's worth looking at the DHL paid express option as DHL don't bother collecting amounts less then R500 whereas the Post Office does.
  12. I have them in stock at R250 which is a bargain.
  13. Actually no. The 29er saddle has a shorter nose than the tundra and has longer rails than the tundra which mean it is easier to get the correct fore/aft position on the bike than it is on the tundra. I wonder how many of the mockers are riding 29er specific clusters and chain rings, remembering that the 11-36 came out specifically for 29ers to compensate for the larger circumference of the wheel....
  14. Ergon grips definitely help with numbness and carpal tunnel due to the ability to increase the contact patch area. I've fitted them as standard on my bikes since I started building. However, recently I found some sella royal mano athletic grips which really are great, 3 different profiles on the same grip, depending on how aggressive you would like to be. And are a bit softer than the Ergon grips. http://www.selleroyal.com/sites/default/files/GR02ATH.jpg
  15. 67kg gives you a BMI of 22.64, slap bang in the middle of the acceptable range. It would be interesting to see how Discovery notified you that you are overweight. What is almost impossible to measure is an accurate body fat % without extensive lab examination.
  16. I doubt he got excluded from Gold because of his weight. Gold is allocated when you, as a couple, get to 90,000 points. BMI is not rocket science. It is a measure of body fat based on a global sample based on your height. Because we are all different, it works in a range, normal is classified as being between 19-25. To work out what your BMI is divide your weight in kg (OP 83kg) by the square of your height in metres (OP is 1.8 so this number is 3.24) which gives a BMI of 25.61, not a train smash. But will definitely be felt towards the top of any climb. 81kg is the upper limit target, not unreasonable if you consider how much fat OP is still packing on his love handles. Medically there is irrefutable proof of a link between excess body fat and ill health. And factually, the majority of the male population who above 25 are packing excess comfort on the love handles.
  17. I've got space in my suv for 2 riders and space in my trailer for bikes, tents and any other gear you may want to take to Gansbaai on Friday and back on Sunday. All for a little petrol money and a few laughs. Phone me by scanning my avatar. Or if that sounds complicated dial 08 44 00 33 22.
  18. Constantia
  19. Silver R55, Black R93. Sapim 14mm 14g (2.0mm)
  20. I've got a few brass ones in silver and black.
  21. Then again maybe it's the best way to find out, kick the bucket doing something you love doing. Not quite the Private Benjamin type of "in the saddle" though.
  22. The human body will compensate by shutting down well before a self regulated stress test will cause death or injury. Our brain just won't let us carry on, which is why training without a program and plan never produces results.
  23. This is Africa. If there was it's not there anymore...
  24. Our very own Cape Alpine Ascent, 47 minutes from home.
  25. You need one of these Lefty specific mounts: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:93240 http://thingiverse-production.s3.amazonaws.com/renders/bc/cf/6f/e5/ce/IMG_20130525_125312_preview_featured.jpg
