  1. my opinion on this will be that geometery is more important than flex for a production mtb frame. - open for argument different seatposts, shocks(type/thru axle?), crank arms are more prone to movement/flex and that is where the stiff/flexable should come in. maybe someone has some data that can help.
  2. mm.. you will be moving at no more than five or six km per hour dirtgirl... mabe Its another corner youre thinking about' date=' thats on a mother of a uphill! I havnt dont the 85 km race the last 2 years (yes I was pansy) but It seems every year as winter hits I start surfing and stop training. I grew up in Knysna so I know the area very well. We live about 500m from where that last singletrack(yes that one where many people will crash again) comes out. this one [/quote']nice pic.... ive got a farm there...
  3. ...yeah, dont expect alot of single track on this one. fast and furious with some big names around so i hear
  4. Tx guys. Is there any danger (other than having a hard ride) in rider on the higher inflation side of things? other than a bumpy ride and some grip at the front there shouldnt be too much to worry about. Stick within the guides that the tyre manufacturar gives. Above 3bar for all terrain mtb'ing is a bit much in my opinion - maybe someone that ride at 3 bar can comment, i havent.
  5. You should be more concerned with looking after the rimms than the tyres but you are right in asking the question becuase the right tyre setup wil look after both. Stick with the durable higher volume tyres and UST (maxxis is safe bet). Good that you are on a dual susser. My first stab would be 2.2 bar at the back and 2.0 at the front. Work you way up or down from there if you bump the rimms.
  6. ...the best way to practice your pull stroke is to put some pinns or glass in your shoes... i suggest at the heel and the toes
  7. ...i debs his rockin bunny!! have a good one and pop in every now and again
  8. ...now that BOS1000 has cleared it for us. All our female hubber go and find 4 friends and make them take up mountain biking. Just no Mountain Dew, and Pine Passion perfume, we get enough of that
  9. ...lube is for sissies
  10. ...everyone gets to be the ox at some stage of the ride
  11. the following scenario doesnt make sense to me... ....imagine screaming down single track +30km/h, seeing a rider approaching going up, slowing down(dragging your back wheel for effect), stopping, clipping out, pulling your bike to the side, stand and wait while listening to a rider huffing and puffing like an ox in heat*(in this story they can)* while struggling at -9km/h up hill. (and a smothered !thaankyou!) Mellow2009-04-29 03:23:13
  12. personally i yield for the guy coming downhill... i cant recall it being the other way around when im going down, generally the guy going up try and move out the way. i think it is because he has more time and we're just about always pushing the limits and out of control. i have to be honest most of the time we both just slow down and pass each other.Maybe its all part of a conspiricy to widen single tracks and promote wide bridges. i suggest try and yielding for the guy coming down. Going down a track is where most the fun is. Next time he'll hopefully open the track for you. (dont really care if he thanks or not) I vote to yield for the guy that is going the fastest Mellow2009-04-29 02:59:00
  13. ...just dont get white frame sunnies - its just wrong!
  14. another forum where people (prob americans) discuss it. they give some formulas here... http://caloriecount.about.com/anyone-understand-calculate-calories-burned-based-ft124824
  15. i dont know the exact formula but it also uses the max hr you enter... ie. % of max
  16. ill take it one step further.... www.google.com .it educates me on quite a number of things and then you dont have to wait 6-7 pages for an answer from our local knowlagebase
  17. Yes, cool post. How do we educate all about this ?? Maybe PPA and CSA can add this to their next email..
  18. yes found it on TREAD magazines site.. pretty cool
  19. dont particulary like this front braking crap... oh and bridges im all for this - http://www.sonic.net/~ckelly/Seekay/mtbwelcome.htm no bridges, no lycra, no helmets, no trail builders, no hub and lots of fun and pot. EDIT - oh and Bless Bridges, because without Bridges our trips will be tough Mellow2009-04-17 00:28:12
  20. thanks to the guys and gals building and maintaining our trails!! really feel strong about it and a great deal of gratitude towards them. i would've said 'no' to that bridge if it was still in question. seems however that more people can now effortlessly enjoy a free run on that trail. maybe a chicken/hero run to come ? Poll: 'Yes' to bridge as an alternative... laughing at your mates(some times others) and talking about technical challanges and close calls is a big part of mtb'ing - the more the better. where the track does not provide a big enough challange you make it up with speed. 21. lock mine all the time(or at least partial), come to think of it its sometimes more locked than not... much better control and feel on front wheel. less control, heavy on the wristsand and nightmare on fast/tech downhills and continous corregation then un-lock (dont bother with rebound - always quick rebound)
