  1. Let me know if you want to sell the XTs!
  2. Anyone placing an order this week still or alternatively want to join me in an order to be placed by Thursday COB? Need a few bob to get free shipping. No clothing etc that complicates duties.
  3. Thanks for setting that straight, one of the other posters above mentioned photobay.
  4. These okes at photobay sure take their time...pics still aren't up.
  5. They are brilliant. I really can't give any more input over and above the hundreds of reviews on the web but I am in Somerset West if you happen to be in the area and want to take a look or try it out before buying one. You are going to get the naysayers attacking you now for wanting to put a kid on a bike but the bottom line is to use your good common sense and judge when and where you should be using it, I use mine mainly on fire roads and jeep tracks in Eden and Jonkershoek and try and stay off the roads as much as possible, ride within 30 to 50% of my comfortably safety zone and have no issues using it. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/83795-the-official-riding-with-kids-thread/page__st__20__p__1157975__hl__kids__fromsearch__1#entry1157975 Imported mine via the taketwo website, it was the cheapest I could find and set me back about R1200.00.
  6. Rod have you finished this bike yet? Pics !!
  7. Most riders (well, me anyway!) will run out of balls long before their bikes do. A Reign, Heckler, Shova or Remedy should go a long way. I recently built up a Heckler and there is no way I will ever see the limits of what that bike can do. Saw guys doing the big road gap in Jonkershoek on Hardtails durinng the DH races last weekend...the guys must have come from DJ background...granted the bikes had proper forks and wheels on but they did it with a lot more style than most of the DHers! Until then I didn't realise that anyone even attempted DH on anything but long travel bikes. I'd still like to try an On One Summer Season with 150mm fork...should be huge fun.
  8. I made up 5 places at the first beerstop but gave them all and a few more away the second we hit the first post beer climb. More Wood in the red Isuzu shirt was confirmed fastest guzzler of the day but it wasn't enough to keep him in the race! Maybe if it was a 12 lap race he would have been in with a chance but then only because no one else would have been able to stand let alone ride.
  9. Thanks to the guys that organized the SS race and refreshments...fun fun FUN! Anyone know where the photo's will be posted? How about a series of local SS races in a similar format, maybe do something once a month during winter or whenever suits on a Sat or Sunday? Tokai, Eden, Magic, Jonkies and wherever else we can think of? The racing snakes can get points League style and the rest can come for the beer.
  10. You start off with a short section of level jeep track, then cut a left into a managable singletrack climb which is a bit loose, it becomes quite technical steep and rocky which had me off the bike for about a 50 meter push / pant / sweat and swearathon. You then have a short section of level jeep track, cross over to a lekker flowing singletrack climb which then becomes another steep rocky climb...another pushathon of probably 50 meters or so, then a rocky / techical descent, cross the jeep track and a long awesome flowing singletrack back to the start. Apparently it's 4.2 kilo's. It's a really easy flat and flowing course and if I were you guys I would have gearing of no less than 42 x 14 else you'll be spinning out the whole way. No climbs, promise!!! BTW I was on a 29er with 32 x 18 gearing and not a racing snake so fitter riders should be quite a bit quicker going up...not much faster coming down though!!!
  11. Rode the course yesterday. Gonna take more than 2 beers to get me through that lot!
  12. The AT3 is the one I was going to get, the best buy I could locate on the web anywhere but the mounting link would not work on my bike so I bought a second hand trailer which mounts to the chainstay instead. Sprog loves it, you won't regret it and if you do will have no hassles selling it again. Here's some pics on this thread https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/83795-the-official-riding-with-kids-thread/page__hl__%22riding+%7C+with+%7C+kids%22
  13. HAHA! Well done Steve, excellent, what sort of distance / time are we looking at here so I can either postpone / cancel prior commitments? Who else is coming, so far looks like it's just SteveCT, More Wood and myself?
  14. Any more details Steve? Keen on this one and have a partner in crime so that's 2 more on the line.
  15. Thanks for the link Marius, I was not following the Table Mountain thread. I ride Eden solo often or let the wife ride singletrack while I tow the sprog around in his trailer on the jeeptracks so the news that this is going down here is a very big cause for concern.
  16. I was told earlier today that there was a bikejacking in Eden on the lower part of the downhill course on Monday. Meurant mentioned it in the Dirtopia newsletter as well. 3 idiots ambushed and hit a rider coming down the DH course in the face and made off with his bike, a bright green Santa Cruz Bullit. I don't know the rider so have no details but as it's one of my favourite places to go for a fun ride after work I want people to be aware of what's going on here so we can try and put a stop to this crap somehow. Apparently there were five seperate similar incidents in Eden during the course of last year so 1. Be careful when riding in Eden and 2. Be on the lookout for a bright green Santa Cruz The question yet again is, where the hell are these bikes going to!??
  17. Non UST Kenda Nevegals as well as Small Block 8's and various WTB tires...no issues ever. The crappest tire of the lot was a UST Bontrager Jones which I will never buy again...massive sidewall blowout...just riding along! Trying the new Kenda Slant Six non UST as Tubeless next. OK Update a six months later...Non-Tubeless WTB started delaminating where I punctured it and some stans got in but the tire was probably the best part of two years old. Michelin XC (non-UST), small block 8 and Nevegal still going like a boeing...

You've gotta love this from the ecotrax website: "My wife who has just turned 71 went for a ride today without any mishap at all, and BE ADVISED she has never riden a motorbike before. Thanks for all your help! Cliff, Hermanus" Almost as if he expected her to have a mishap but let her have a go anyway.
  19. More Trails, was this the OnOne at the Ceres 70km with the delightful filly riding the matching steed?
  20. Got a SS specific DMR Revolver which you thread your ss freewheel onto, not too pricy and looks the business. I believe the benefit is meant to be that your wheel isn't dished so should be stronger.
  21. Morbid curiosity caused me to strip on old suspension fork I had lying in the garage last night and I would not even clean up the amount of mess I managed to make for R350.00, let alone still fix the bloody thing. I'll never complain about spending 300 - 600 bucks for a Fox service again!!!
  22. Totally agree and it's a regular occurrence! Sourpuss of note but not even that can spoil my mood when I've been in Jonkies.
  23. Slowbee: you are welcome to try either the trailer or my iBert chair, just PM me to make a plan. PhilipV: Jaco used to be in the workshop at Helderberg Cycles Williams: Top bloke, top bike porn, top shop, workshop expensive compared to where I usually go and not always the quickest when you need work done in a hurry. But when you want to feel the passion and get inspired to bend some plastic, go have a chat to William. Re Helderberg Cycle Works: I do not enjoy going into a bike shop where I get treated like an alien when I walk in by the same staff who I have met and spoken to on numerous occasions. The workshop has previously helped me quickly and efficiently but after an unpleasant incident where my wife got some serious attitude from one of the staff after they had made a mistake sellig her something which was incorrect I won't go back there. I get the feeling that place is run as a profit centre and not out of a passion for the sport. I suppose it's a business so thats their focus and it's their prerogative, it's not the kind of environment where I like to spend my bucks though.
  24. At 1'93 you should consider a 29er...contact Kiwi on the Hub, he has Kona Hei Hei 29 duallies for sale at a decent price which may be worth looking at and you could build a bike up well under budget.
  25. Would a powder coated frame have better resistance against aluminium corrosion than one that has been factory painted? I've had frame corrosion on a few painted aluminium bikes in the past but just got one which has been factory powder coated...wondering if I'm going to sweat this one to pieces too...
