  2. [ive been converted - Im going to wear my cycling helmet when I surf this afternoon, and forever then. Then while Im down at the beach I'll start to lobby for all the jet skiers, Kite boarders, paddle skiers, canoeists, knee boarders to all start wearing a helmet. Come on Good work I'm glad you've wisened up.
  3. If you ride without a helmet you have ROCKS IN YOUR HEAD. Sure, it's your rocks, your head so no-one else's business how you protect it but just remember it's your family who is going to mourn or have to look after you when things go wrong. There are enough factors that you have no control over when out riding to not ignore the ones that you can. Anyway hope you never have to learn this lesson first hand.
  4. I had a suspicion it might be you...bit of a race snake eh! Bike looks awesome what fork do you have on there, looked like something Maverick used on their bikes? Saw even less cyclists on the road than usual this morning...so much for bike to work day. Even got someone to send a memo about it to the whole company...guess how many people rocked up on their bikes? Oh well they aren't co-ed so I wasn't too keen to share the showers anyway... Velouria do you do that commute often? I have quite a lekker route I do through farms and vineyards etc...about 18 K's from Steynsrust to Technopark of which only about 5 is on tar.
  5. Who'se the guy that rides the blue Niner from SSW side to Technopark outside Stellenbosch...dunno if he was late for work and has an angry boss or what but he beat me from the flying club to the offices the other day...and I was in my car!
  6. Which compo is this Frail, I thought you had sold just over 50 tickets for the Pigalle dinner and CWC kit raffle?

Rondebosch Station...geez man are you CRAZY!!! I lived in Station Road a few years back and got so sick of my bakkie getting broken into that I eventually replaced the quarter window with a piece of ice cream tub and some duct tape so the bastards could browse and peruse through my car at their leisure at night without breaking any more windows...

Glad those %&&** didn't get away with your bike! Which office park? Mine and a few of my friends bikes regularly spend the day in or on our vehicles waiting for post work rides and you tend to get a bit lax with security when things have gone well for a while. Other than that how does it ride?
  9. I have previously posted this on the Cycling with Kids thread but anyway, these two tools make it possible for you to get the hell out the house without getting admin for it when things start getting a bit hot at home. The Trailer feels a bit safer for the sprog and probably better when it's cold etc but they def like the front seat more...better interaction and being able to see what's going on etc. Also slows you down enough so the wife can keep up!!
  10. And he's back with more. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/86025-salecervelo-astana-saxo-bank-radio-shack-2010-kits-r700/ https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/86031-sale-2009-tour-de-france-full-kit-arm-warmers-r500/
  11. I'm yet to hear of someone that owns or has owned a Peace 29 and hasn't or doesn't love it. The one I rode was great, you know when a bike just FEELS right, but the wheels and actually most of it could have done with a bit of an upgrade. Especially the seat post after I had turned it into a non returning metal boomerang. All this talk is making me want to go ride my SS!
  12. There's a 2nd hand 2009 model EX8 for sale on the hub for about 15K...that would be a better option than the other two. Solomon's also had brand new 2008 model EX8's for about 18K not too long ago. Other than that between the two bikes you listed I think you'll get better specs on the Giant.
  13. Geez Rock you should know better than to think an oke with couches like that would leave his wheels umpimped.
  14. iBert is from around 10 or 12 months to probably 4 years or a maximum of 17kgs carrying capacity, minimum age stipulated as from when they can hold their heads and a helmet up without risk of neck injury. I've been using mine "gently" and avoiding bumps around the neighbourhood since 8 months but nowhere offroad yet, I will get to that soon. Takes a little bit to get used to but easy to ride with, you can't stand on the pedals though and I'm sure you could reach your bottle quite easily. The kid loves being able to see where you are going and the interaction, the downside it they are directly in the wind so use you judgement when it looks cold.
  15. Here's a pic of the iBert Safety seat which is now a permanent fixture on my old bike. Awesome product, I looked around everywhere but in the end had to import it off the Take2 website. Check the little one literally and figuratively chewing into my wallet.
  16. Gumtree, some dodgy oke in Tableview... Best option other than that is probably CRC. As I said to Slowbee as well you are welcome to give it a go before committing to buying one.
  17. Slowbee the little oke is now 9 months but he's off the charts massive for his age. You will find a myriad of opposing comments on the www on when you can and can't put them in a trailer, as long as you're not hitting the jumps and drops yours should be ready soon. You are welcome to swing by and give the trailer a go, I've also bought an iBert "Safety Seat" which goes on the front of the bike and is an awesome product but I had to import it and it was expensive compared to rear mounted seats. I was fairly torn between which to get and ended up with both, gumtree will do that to you. The sprog loves the iBert as he can see what's going on and can interact with you and you can ride singletrack (within reason!) but they are fairly exposed to sun and wind and the oke caught a cold the last time I took him for a spin, much to his mothers' delight. If you take a tumble things can get nasty as well, you don't have to be that careful with the trailer. They can doss better in the trailer as well and have toys / bottles / snacks in there. Again, you are welcome to borrow or try them out and decide for yourself.
  18. Guy that is impressive you must have very selective hearing to keep your sanity on that rig!
  19. This thread is dedicated to all of you who have babies / kids and are doing what they can to still get out and ride. Post pics of your trailers, bike seats, tagalongs, Y-bikes and whatever other paraphernalia you've collected to force your nasty riding habit on your offspring and let us know what works and what doesn't. OK so the ride pictured below wasn't exactly the X Games but given the circumstances it beats the crap out of pushing a pram and it was still awesome in a different kind of way. If you were wondering the passenger weighs 12 kilo's, the trailer probably quite a bit more than that and yes, low range is required! Attached some photo's of my little dudes first visit to my friends farm in Ceres.

You can ghetto non-UST Small Block 8's easy peasy. Give it a go it's a simple procedure and well worth doing.
  21. Ahoy Rod, long time no speak...how you enjoying the Brooks? Regarding gearing I ride 32 x 18 on a 29er and I've found getting up a hill is simply 1. learning how to pace yourself and 2. mind over matter. I rode the Wines to Whales on mine and had to get off twice up super steep bits where you couldn't keep momentum due to bikes ahead on the singletrack, I managed to ride absolutely everything else and I promise you I am no racing snake or power house. I can get up most if not all hills when riding socially with geared mates but you find your heart rate going through the roof so it really is a mind game and about pacing yourself. I personally wouldn't attempt something like Hell and Back or even Lourensford classic with it though, too much steep climbing, keeping it simple is one thing but geez, you still gotta enjoy yourself! Jonkershoek etc is perfect. On my ss I leave a saddle bag with basic tools and 1 x water bottle so going for a quick after work ride is simply shoes helmet gloves and ride off. No mess no fuss, all the more so when it gets muddy in winter. Just do it and remember to post some pics!
  22. Mail your pics to Jerrard at the singlespeed website, they are looking for some content for the site. www.singlespeed.co.za Nice one Hairy looks like you're loving the Inbred, attached a pic of your bikes big brother.

  24. might have been trying to pick you up.
  25. The fork should have steeper geometry to cater for the 29" bigger wheel, simply putting on a smaller wheel on a 29" specific fork may make the handling somewhat twitchy. Maybe try borrow a 26" fork and wheel from someone, fit the wheel first, see how it handles with both forks and make a call on it. If I'm not mistaken the Trek 69 had a Fox fork on it? You should be able to sell that quite easily if you decide to go that route.
