  7. Correct me if i am wrong, but surely the vehicles heading in your direction had the right of way, regardless if someone "left a gap" for them as a courtesy, that driver is still responsible to make sure there are no other vehicles of any sort coming. He was turning right across oncoming traffic
  8. Last year was nasty on the return after the turn at the stop street, turned into a head wind that was kicking up dust off a field!
  9. Recommended maximum weight of the cyclist and equipment: 100 kg http://www.tech-mavic.com/tech-mavic/technical_manual/data/docs/themes/2_16.pdf
  10. Check the weight limits according to Shimano's website. My suggestion of tandem wheels is based on most being 40 spoke and stronger hubs. If money is to be spent, rather get something to last. Edit : spelling
  11. Spoke count on the 105 hibs will be too low

  13. Just my 2c, that rim is toast, is quite a bad kink in it. I would consider a set of tandem wheels, or you will haveto spend a large amoun tof cash on a custom set of wheels with strong rims and a high spoke count. Good luck
  14. Am gonna be riding Tandem with the Mrs, wondering about road closure on a Saturday!
  15. Interesting, so Cycle Lab fobs off the problem to someone else and you take offense to the Thule Shops not being interested. while i agree that the shops should probably have bent over backwards to sort the problem(and win the customer from the bike shop), we, as consumers, do not have any idea what Thule procedures for warranty claims are. GrumpyOldGuy, i could not agree with you more, the customer is king, i never turn anyone away directly, always try go that extra mile...you never know when they will refer you to a bigger job that could make that tiny little bit of work worth your while....
  16. Still curious as to why Cycle Labs was not approached about the problem with the item....Three sides to every story....
  17. If you look at my quote, FCH posted the info from Thule SA(about Boksburg) that is owned by Rack Solid, in the Rack Solid quote, they mention they have taken ownership of Cedar Square, hence my reference to two branches being owned by the same person/holding company. I have read and taken in all the info, you seem fixated that Thule has let you down, when you have purchased at a Cycle Shop, then approached another company to honour a warranty held by a manufacturer. clearly you are not in an industry that requires products to be replaced under warranty and do not particularly care that while the Thule branches may carry some stock and display it, they have still paid for it and are under no obligation to give it to you when you have a problem with a shiny new product from a different dealer. I still do not understand why you did not go straight back to Cycle Labs, as i am sure they would have sorted you out within a reasonable amount of time. While you think it is no cost, it does cost the dealership, in more ways than one.
  18. So you skipped over complaining to the South Africa distributor, but complained to two branches owned by the same holding company.... Could not agree more. I sell products, and if a customer brings back something under warranty from XYZ manufacturer, i am under no obligation to swap it under warranty. Most warranties are held by the manufacturer, so what the Thule shops COULD have done, was go the extra mile and try to assist. An end users attitude towards the issue also goes a long way to resolving a problem. When tempers start to flare, i have noticed that shops/dealers tend to be less willing to help in any way at all. So the same holding company owns BOTH of the branches that Awesme visited. Perhaps the same manager/owner was involved and remembered him from the first encounter.
  19. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/59688-tandem-wheels/ Tandem wheels should hold his weight without a hassle, considering they are built to take the weight of two riders normally
  20. You can always get removable valve tubes...Kenda make them...and put stans in them....found it good for a long time... You guys are fixated on forcing people to ride mountain bikes whenever wherever. As mentioned above, running a road bike with flat bars and wider tyres will work nicely, even for the odd bit of curb hopping....get a higher spoke count wheel and you should have a sturdy bike. Hybrid will work nicely for your use.
  21. To use Tubeless on road rims, you need specific road tubeless rims, what make and models rims did you get? Just as with mountain bikes, using tubeless allows you to ride with lower pressures and makes for a slightly more comfortable ride. It will also reduce the risk of snake bite punctures as there is no tube to pinch. The down side is that the rims are slightly heavier due to their composition and replacement of spokes/nipples is quite difficult.
  22. Yeah, i checked the crank after....best bet would be a bike shop...
  23. I have an Italian thread Shimano 105 BB sitting in my toolbox(octalink)

  25. Had the great pleasure of popping in this morning looking for a solution to a pretty simple problem that i have been told by many people was a near impossible task to solve. I have an old Hansom tandem that i am trying to modernise to use for the odd fun ride with the mrs(we ride well together) and the bike has an ancient front derailleur. This in itself is not serious... The problem is that the frame has a 28.6mm down tube, noone seema to keep/manufacture a clamp for this size tube anymore. Anyhow, I explain all this to George and he says 'No problem", fishes out a set of spacers and tells me that they will sort my problem.... Such awesome service and friendly help. For anyone looking for a decent project bike... He has quite a few brand spanking new unused steel frame... Colnago, Zini, Le Turbo, Hansom etc frames on a rack waiting for a new home.
