  1. We were there in December. Austria had their warmest winter in 20 years, so there was basically no snow for 3/4 of the trail. Its insane to say the least, I couldn't even walk up most the trail. Their smallest kickers will probably launch your bike 5 to 8 meters. I spoke to a few local students that rode most of the trail and each of them bragged about their crashes and bails in a sort of broken english. There is even an insurance available in the summer months to cover you for injuries treated by the local medical university if it is bike related.
  2. July 13. All information is on ASG's website
  3. Haha, if you would've asked this a week ago, you could've went to the Klipkoppie Fees. They hosted a 20km race there and it was quite tough (400m ascent). I doubt that they will give access to the public though.
  4. Is it also fenced off now along the complex along Keiskamma Strret? I used to ride there quite a lot, was a really steep downhill for the guys who got bored of doing Fort Klapperkop. As far as I know there won't be a trail, only a 4x4 access jeep road for servicing the storm drain underneath the N1.
  5. During the weekend's Southern Skies 24 hour, I got awful cramps in about 4 hours (70 km). I soldiered on a bit, but after another 10 km realized it wont go away. I knew I was fit and strong enough for the event and very irritated that my legs just bombed out. I drank 2 teaspoons of salt and went for a leg massage from a chiro student. He mentioned that salt-intake should start 3 days before high intensity/ long duration activities and that your muscles need to be in a relaxed state to actually absorb the salts/sodiums. So these salt-tablet quick fixes aren't very effective. He also pointed out that I actually had bruises from the cramp contractions in both my calves and hamstrings, which really prevented me from pushing myself further for the rest of the day/night. This shows that you need to listen to your body (unless you are Jens Voigt.) and not push yourself too much. So IMO if you get cramps, you should know that you screwed up your preparation, either by neglecting your salt/sodium intake, or your fitness level.
  6. Hey Ricardo Gaan ry 'n uur lank alleen voordat julle saam begin. Dit sal jou ten minste meer oefening gee. Is julle nog in PTA?
  7. @Tunariaan Why did you fit your GPS over the toptube? Where do you get your motivation from if the PEDAL DAMN IT is covered?
  8. I asked the same thing. The group will probably finish at 13h30 (44.7km/h average).
  9. Taken from Cervelo's website: But where is the tipping point? "Col de la Tipping Point" How steep does a climb have to be before the weight savings trump the aero gains? As we saw before, the answer depends on the rider weight and speed, as a faster rider would encounter higher aerodynamic forces while the gravitational forces stay the same. For an average, 250 Watt rider, the tipping point is around a 5% slope, for a good pro who puts out 400 Watt, it’s at 8%. http://www.cervelo.com/en/engineering/thinking-and-processes/weight-vs-aero.html

    Mzansi Tour

Im planning on watching the end of the stage tomorrow in Vuilbijl. What time should they finish if they leave Clarens at 9:00?
  11. Heading should include " ...and stop smoking a carton a day"

    Niner EBB II

I have no idea who would stock them locally. Its a too small niche market. Competitive Cyclist stock them for about $90. Maybe ask around if someone wants a Niner rigid fork and save a bit on the shipping. I would also get a few extra grub-screws as well, they just look a bit flimsy.
  13. If you can service their hubs, I'll give you a pair of 2011 SunRingle XMB rims (without rotors or tyres) in exchange for a 6-pack Klippies and Cola. I'm situated in Vereeniging if you want to collect them anytime. And I can give you a 2.25" tyre.
  14. Their pricing for servicing and building is justifiable because of the attention and quality your bike would've received. I can vouch for their good work and can assure you they will definitely not try to rip you off. I think I overheard your conversation today while was in the shop as well, and you and the sales person were in fact polite :-). Regarding the 'cheap Chinese' products: I'm sure they bought those hubs in bulk from suppliers and have lots of stock which they would try to prioritize during sales. I also think they did their homework before buying those hubs to ensure they aren't crap, and get fed up if customers complain about the 'no-name' brands. But still, handing back the wheel to you and in effect losing a customer is a bit strange.

  16. This Hub trial is larger than the Oscar trial, and looks like we are underway with the cross-examination phase. I nominate Dipslick as Judge.
  17. I've been waiting for so long just to post in this thread, and now, finally after 2 years of trail building I can do it. Our family farm's trails are complete with just over 15km of awesome riding.
  18. Ya, it does. Its probably the most climbing that one can fit into a half marathon distance! My ideal race would be similar to a Mt. Ventoux setup, with a 60 km route that you need to end off with the Sani Pass climb, with hundreds of supporters along the way.
  19. A race near Underberg that includes a climb up Sani Pass.
  20. There are some nice gravel roads through the Umlalazi Nature Reserve as well as the dirt roads zigg-zagging through the nearby sugar cane farms. But the nearest trails would be 70 km south to Holla Trails.
