  1. Sad to hear - RIP
  2. That's the basic route, but on the way back (arrow in attached image) you don't turn right straight back to the parking. The correct route carries on straight - as per the road on your map.
  3. That's what I got as well - but I'm saving mine till I can get something better...
  4. That's from the army base in Heidelberg, not Lezar as in 2017. I did it last year. Enjoyed it very much, but it was fairly tough as there was not a lot of open road riding - they would rather take you on the mielie field next to it or on the service roads used next to railway lines. So even though not a lot of elevation, they use the area well to create a good challenge.
  5. Tx gtr1 I hear you, but unfortunately we've been having our race around this date for years and the date for this one was selected almost a year ago. The calendar is getting filled up with races though - also see the reply to scotty above. Glad you enjoyed it. As a MTB'er myself, I tried getting the route to something I would like to ride.
  6. Tx scotty! This being our normal routes I totally understand what you mean with the wind - it was brutal! I hear you with regards to the numbers, but everybody seems to struggle with numbers and the calendar is getting filled up with races. A couple of years ago we were the only one in the area around this time of year, but now there is a variety - as was mentioned gtr1. This coming weekend, for example, there's the Galvanisers race as well as the Varkfees one within 20km from where I stay. Add to that that the weather wasn't that good on the day and you can probably understand why there is less people. That's why our focus was on making it as good as possible for the guys and girls who come to do it. As long as everyone had fun out there, it's good enough for me. Unfortunately I was tied up with stuff out on the route and only got back to the start late, but it stays amazing to see the excitement and sense of accomplishment (pride) on the kids faces when they finish. Apologies for the essay...
  7. Hi rickkahts The results should be posted on the Springs Girls High School web page by the end of play today. I've also send it to SA Seeding, but it normally takes around a week or so to go up on their site. Alternatively, I can send you a copy if you PM me your e-mail address. Unfortunately there were barely any pictures taken on the day. We've had basically no feedback on pictures in the past so didn't organise a photographer this year. Hope you enjoyed the race!
  8. Very similar to last year. We had to make a couple of minor changes, but they are hardly noticeable and improve the route if anything.
  9. There are a whole bunch of lucky draws again - I will hold thumbs for you!
  10. Apologies, I missed this before, but no there are no loops - although we did have a part that looped about 4 years ago, so you might have done it then.
  11. The 60km route is a mix of jeep and singletrack with little bits of tar and district road thrown in. It is fairly flat - I think the total elevation is around 450m - but the wind can be a factor on the day. We go through some klipkoppies which are slightly more technical, but it is 100% rideable. The emphasis for the route was to make it as fun as possible - and I firmly believe we achieved that. You will really have an advantage if you've got some skill, whether you're going for the podium or just there to enjoy the ride.

  13. I bought a Garmin tri HR strap last month and was waiting for the cash-back. Just went to check. All the straps except this one has the Vitality icon. Doesn't make sense...
  14. Jip, and my whole family are as sick as dogs - I'm staying clear of them!
  15. Jip, that seems about the only thing working for us at the moment...
  16. ^^^^ You answered your own question...
  17. I'm very happy we won, but we were very lucky. The interruption to their innings, Miller getting a second life, chasing a lower target and a wet outfield making the ball difficult to grip for their spinners. Everything worked in our favor, but that's sport. Let's hope they can continue saving the series tomorrow. However, I can't see it being that easy again...
  18. I agree 100%. In addition a couple of points. 1) The requirements (from the municipalities) to host any event are getting more difficult to meet - adding to the cost. 2) People are more difficult to please in general (including cyclists) and expectations are sometimes not realistic. 3) Roads are more congested affecting safety - and full road closure is almost impossible. 4) More and more people are feeling the effect of the economic downturn and just don't enter that many races anymore.
  19. Good start by India. With such a low total to defend we need to put pressure on them by taking a couple of wickets. Once they start tumbling...
  20. Ek wonder hoe lank die Proteas nog dieselfde kan sê...
  21. Wow, AB is special - scoring at more than a run a ball when everybody else is struggling to get to terms with the conditions. I really hope he can stay there for some time. Maybe then we have a fighting chance...
  22. Not the start we hoped for...
  23. It is possible that the watch uses the average HR at the time when the watch was removed and there was no HR signal, i.e. it sees the activity as being finished even though you did not stop the timer. When you then stop the timer it takes the total time from the manual stop, but doesn't recalculate the average HR, hence the discrepancy. To add: If you left it on your arm for that time the average would be below 60%...
  24. I struggled with this last week when trying to link a new account for my wife. In order to solve it I had to change the privacy settings in Garmin Connect. The message is confusing, but the way I understand it Discovery is not getting the authorization from the Connect App - if the account is set to private. It did show Discovery as connected in the App though and I removed it before changing the settings. Also, I managed to solve it before I got the Discovery reply, but the reply was useless - even had the e-mail address to link spelled incorrectly! Hope this helps!
  25. Braamfontein (note the upper case B - apologies for the snobbery... )
